I know this has been done before, but let's have a nice cheerful thread about the little purchase that thinks it's a giant. I have just bought a really cute hob kettle that makes me happy when it whistles Grin. I swear the tea tastes nicer too.

Filofax.
My late grandmother bought me a pocket Filofax for my 18th and it is probably still my favourite and most useful present to date!

Couple of bunches of daffodils today.

I have covid (again) and I made my DH buy them for me. The bright yellow makes me smile as they start to open.

Tiny cat sofa - it’s so cute! It’s taken me 12 years to fall for something so “human” for a pet, but I couldn’t resist it.

And this is more of a “service”, but paying to get some of my kitchen knives sharpened. What a difference.

A cheese slicer - so when I have a plain cheese sandwich I get 1mm of cheese and no lumpy bits haha (my husband doesn’t like how I shave the cheese but hey ho) x

A silicone cover that goes over the bath drain so you can have deeper baths. It's amazing.

Cherrysoup · 20/03/2022 00:27

Socks from Asda that don’t strangle my swollen ankles.

A n old postcard showing the Children’s schoolroom at Calke Abbey as it was discovered back in the 1980’s
The old toys are magnificent, would love to see them in person.

@cherrypiepie

Love the "why didn't I buy this sooner" feeling for discovering something you have lived without for so long.

Collapsible cleaning bowl from ikea. Love it and it's a gorgeous pink colour.

Electric Foot file from a Amazon

Siestema Bento box from Aldi.

Revlon blow dry brush.

Ooh - which foot file did you buy. My feet are horrible- even my mum comments on them

Your cat is a magnificent creature. He's (she's?) the poster child for "The Lion Sleeps tonight"! Just for fun!

A couple of great small kitchen gadgets on a related theme I absolutely love and use all the time:

I don’t have asbestos hands - unlike DH who can drink tea straight away and tolerate much hotter running water over his hands than I can.

  • wooden toast tongs for all of about £1.50 from Lakeland about 10 years ago;
  • a little silicone hand grip in the shape of hot pink lips which is perfect for getting plates out of the microwave, when oven gloves or a larger silicone grip thingy would be too big and bulky, about £5 about 5 years ago, from Zeal. They make me smile every time.

Both of these have saved my fingers many times!

Can’t resist adding to this: I also had an M&S homeware voucher some years back for £10. We had our eye on something we needed, which was £8. We didn’t want to ‘lose’ £2, but didn’t want to be encouraged to spend over the value of the voucher either. Quite by chance I spotted a set of 3 kitchen scissors in different sizes for £2, believe it or not! Very good quality for the money, or rather as a freebie, and I also use them all the time. That sense of a lucky find also makes me smile every time I use them, as I couldn’t believe they were exactly the value left on the voucher. I was meant to see them that day!

Illputtheminapie · 20/03/2022 01:25

@demotedreally please tell me where you got a plate warmer!

Furries · 20/03/2022 01:37

@a1poshpaws - he says thank you very much!

Ha, I’d forgotten about that song, I loved it as a kid.

buckeejit · 20/03/2022 01:57

I also love my vacuum pack sealer, electric hot water bottles, dymo label embosser, and a puppy clicker -I have no dog but I find it very comforting or somehow satisfying too!

Aromatherapy associates oil diffuser, (I have many & this is justified the oils-no water to diffuse so never goes musty.

Pure linen beddding & latex pillows

buckeejit · 20/03/2022 01:59

And maybe doesn't qualify as small purchase but pure down duvets for winter/summer are amazing

sandgrown · 20/03/2022 02:10

Tiny little garden snips for dead heading plants

AdaColeman · 20/03/2022 02:15

My mug with sights of Paris, to remind me of all the happy times I’ve had there, I’ll probably never go again.

A little cabbage leaf bowl, just right for a few nuts to go with a glass of sherry.

Finally… bought only yesterday, a pair of Dartington martini glasses, reduced! Such a lovely shape, and dishwasher safe too.

@Spellfish

Little silicone spatula off eBay. Gets last bits out of tins, scrapes cake mix bowls so they don’t clog up the dishwasher, stirs non stick pans without scratching, gets the last bits of peanut butter out of the jar. I had to buy a second as I kept needing the first one and finding it was in the (running) dishwasher.
I came on to say this!! Sooo handy. Got mine InPoundland .....for £1!
teateaandcoffee · 20/03/2022 02:32

My £1 ikea milk frothed, I use it for whisking lots of things like chocolate mouse.
I’m not sure why but I find it really fun to use :)

I'm addicted to nail art after finding a nail polish - sinful colours - that I can get a whole week out of without chipping. It's inexpensive polish and I've now got a collection.

I like being creative, so nail art is right up my alley. These were my Valentine's week nails - so much fun to do.

Other than that, good little purchases have been:

  • bodum single cup coffee plunger bought in 1997 - still use it every day at work with matching cup
  • branch loppers and branch saw - so nice to have quality tools that make the work easy
  • just yesterday bought a duster thing to clean my skylight. The microfibre duster was amazing on my bookcase. Made quick work of it and looks fantastic.
  • my dad gave me an electronic screwdriver for one birthday. Thought I'd never use it but it's super handy.
What little thing have you bought that you love?
2catsandhappy · 20/03/2022 03:56

My herb and spice rack on a lazy susan. I bought a 2nd, different, one. They are great.

I could do with one of those to go with my "Don't blame me, I voted Remain" badge!
