Report in the Guardian that she has had her passport returned and that a negotiating team are in place.

Too early for celebrations but I have got my fingers crossed behind my back.

@spacehardware

1. Thank god
  1. This is clearly linked to our need for some new friends ideally with fossil fuels, or on the good side of those who might sell them to us, right?
Agreed.

The Saudi schmoozing is also grim.

Spot on.

I have everything crossed they get back to the UK safely.

Absolutely brilliant news. Flowers for Nazanin. Lots of love and strength to her for the future.

PineappleWilson · 16/03/2022 10:43

I have little respect for Liz Truss but hearing her on the radio this morning confirming that we do indeed owe Iran the money, seemd one of the most sensible things I've ever heard her say. There are issues about how we pay it back because of sanctions in place, but fingers crossed enough has been agreed for Nazanin to definitely be on her way home

IcakethereforeIam · 16/03/2022 10:43

Excellent news. All the best to her.

MrsMariaReynolds · 16/03/2022 10:44

I sincerely hope this is the beginning of her freedom. Finally!

And I also hope that Liz Truss and Boris don't take this on as their own personal victory. Because it sure as hell isn't.

To be fair, Tulip Siddiq (Nazanin's Labour MP) did seem to be giving Liz Truss some credit for all this earlier, so she must have done something right.
SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 16/03/2022 10:46

I hope she and Anoosheh Ashoori are finally, actually on the plane.

Tulip Siddiq MP (Lab) is making a point of thanking Liz Truss.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 16/03/2022 10:47

She's on her way home! Just popped up in BBC app. Shes at the airport now... so pleased for her and her family. What a dreadful ordeal for her. I wish her and her family peace and a joyful reunion.

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 16/03/2022 10:48

I think Siddiq is quite right to pointedly ignore Boris Johnson. The man was a bloody liability in all this.

Thoosa · 16/03/2022 10:49

She’s not properly “on her way” until she’s in the air. It was at the airport that this all started. I don’t completely trust the Iranians.

Kfjsjdbd · 16/03/2022 10:52

Yes agree. I feel so emotional about this but don’t want to celebrate until she’s on the plane.

Yes, in fact not until she is out of Iranian airspace. Everything crossed...
EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 16/03/2022 10:58

I won't believe it until she's landed but I so hope this is true.

Tonya345 · 16/03/2022 10:58

I am just waiting to hear that the plane has taken off. I too feel emotional about it, she has gone through so much. To be finally reunited with her husband and daughter will be so good. All the best to them all.

ThisIsGroundControl · 16/03/2022 10:59

@Pedallleur

boris will prob claim it's his diplomacy that has resulted in this. the cheque for £400 million thats 40 years overdue is incidental
It's worse than that. He has only agreed to the 400million because of Ukraine
Whenigrowupiwanttobea · 16/03/2022 11:02

Just read that she is on her way to the airport to fly to the UK. Boris has paid the money we owed and probably had a chat with Tehran about their oil stocks.

Blossomtoes · 16/03/2022 11:02

In the air will do me. Everything crossed that she’ll be home today 🤞
Thoosa · 16/03/2022 11:03

The more I think about it, though, the more I think that they’ve still split a family. Obviously NZR’s place is here with her child and her husband, but it’s still a family fractures and a huge loss for her and her parents and wider family. So it will be a very mixed day for her, and she still has trauma to process for years, too, of course. It’s so very evil to use individuals as political pawns like this.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 16/03/2022 11:04

I am hoping beyond hope she gets to put her daughter to bed tonight 🤞🏻🤞🏻❤️❤️

DoubleShotEspresso · 16/03/2022 11:04

Goodness I really hope this works out, that poor woman must have been through hell. Praying she gets home, but cautiously awaiting confirmation she is on board a plane and in the air homebound.

Forshorttheycallmecomp · 16/03/2022 11:05

I haven’t cried at the news for so long but this brought a tear to my eye. If strength of will could get her on a plane tonight…

Soffit · 16/03/2022 11:06

It seemed careless of Reuters (her ex employer) to report it before she was even off Iranian soil but here's hoping...we need some positive news!

ancientgran · 16/03/2022 11:10

Iranian tv are saying she has left. I hope it is true.

Xenia · 16/03/2022 11:10

She is probably coming home because Russian invaded Ukraine - ie the UK needs Iran more now ergo we may be more prepared to pay the money to that appalling rogue state (and yes I have been to Iran twice on business and the people were lovely but the regime is dire).

What a complex situation and I think her daughter thankfully returned to the UK when she turned 5 to start school here so it is all lovely news. I wish the family the best of luck.
