Report in the Guardian that she has had her passport returned and that a negotiating team are in place.

Too early for celebrations but I have got my fingers crossed behind my back.

@Mirw - furthermore, border control and customs are two different things. You need to get through border control to formally cross the border into a country at an airport. Once you have done that you go to baggage control then on to customs.

Poster too soon.

Or it could be the closest place they could arrange a private plane to get her to a british military plane to bring them home.
It’s not a private jet. It’s an Oman RAF plane.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 16/03/2022 14:29

Between this and Forstater and the work deadline that I'm not going to meet because of this - my heart is pounding!

BeforeGodAndAllTheFish · 16/03/2022 14:29

@WeAreTheHeroes

Thank you for that info! I thought it was a chartered plane. That explains it more then my speculation!

CaveMum · 16/03/2022 14:29

If she’s flying into Brize Norton she’s not returning on a commercial flight. BN is an RAF base. They do fly a few commercial passenger flights in and out of there but they are specific routes such as to Ascension Island and on to The Falklands.

WeAreTheHeroes · 16/03/2022 14:29
@WeAreTheHeroes she's apparently going to land at Brize Norton at around 10 pm tonight, so I imagine she will be on an RAF plane.
Even better. I did wonder as the RAF use Muscat.

Lesperance · 16/03/2022 14:30

@purpleboy

Why is her plane going to muscat?
There is a UK military base in Oman, and she is going to Brize Norton, so I image that's why.
Snoopsnoggysnog · 16/03/2022 14:31

@NoFriendsNoEnemies

This must be bittersweet for her. Finally she can be reunited with her daughter, but will likely never see her parents again.
I was thinking that
purpleboy · 16/03/2022 14:32

Thank you. Felt worried when it didn't have the uk destination.
I don't think I'll rest until she is back on uk soil.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 16/03/2022 14:33

This is amazing news, I’ve followed her story from the start.

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/03/2022 14:34

Google informs me that the average flight time from Muscat to Brize Norton is 7hours 13mins. So it looks like they will transfer planes and take off again very quickly.

WeAreTheHeroes · 16/03/2022 14:34

There's the possibility she can meet her parents elsewhere outside Iran. A friend of a friend is Cuban and used to meet their parents in somewhere like Venezuela because they couldn't go home without being arrested.

Thank you for sharing that, @WeAreTheHeroes.

They can meet in lovely places and have lovely times.

Got me welling up again.

Blackbird2020 · 16/03/2022 14:37

Why are some posters saying she’ll likely never see her parents again? Have the Iranian authorities placed a travel ban on her parents? Are they too elderly/sick to travel?

bonfireheart · 16/03/2022 14:37

Amazing news :)

xalo · 16/03/2022 14:38

Is FlightRadar24 free?

CaveMum · 16/03/2022 14:39

There’s a flight to BN now showing on the Muscat departures list, though currently it’s showing take off time as 2010 local (delayed from 1830 local which was 9 mins ago)

@Thoosa

Please though, so many of you are claiming to have “baited breath” it’s giving me strange visual images.

“Bated breath” (as in “abatement”) is the term.

Really.
CaveMum · 16/03/2022 14:40

@xalo

Is FlightRadar24 free?
@xalo yes it is, you can opt for a paid version to go ad-free and get a few more details but the free version is perfectly good.
WeAreTheHeroes · 16/03/2022 14:40

@Blackbird2020 I suppose there's the possibility the Iranian authorities may restrict her parents travel as they'll know it's likely they're meeting her if they travel outside Iran. These kinds of regimes tend to do this sort of thing.

RobotValkyrie · 16/03/2022 14:40

Fingers crossed she'll be home soon. I've rarely felt so strongly about a stranger's plight, what happened to her and her family is horrendous.

Sounds silly, but I almost feel like sending her a welcome home card (not that I actually know her address...), just to let her know the world did not forget her, and did care during all these years.

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/03/2022 14:42

That'll be the one @CaveMum. Looks like a charter flight.

Just listening to Richard Ratcliffe being interviewed now. He is over the moon.

xalo · 16/03/2022 14:42

@CaveMum thanks!

Blackbird2020 · 16/03/2022 14:43

I can’t imagine the U.K. authorities would let her anywhere near a commercial flight.

Can you imagine the people onboard wanting to speak to her, take photos… Even if it was just the cabin attendants wanting a bit of Insta fame, that would be bad enough…. The two of them will be on a military or private flight back to the U.K. These are 2 extremely traumatised individuals who have no reason to be on a commercial plane, unless there were no other options.

TeapotCollection · 16/03/2022 14:44

@xalo - be warned, it’s addictive 😆 agree the free version is fine
