Report in the Guardian that she has had her passport returned and that a negotiating team are in place.

Too early for celebrations but I have got my fingers crossed behind my back.

@Thoosa

Thanks *@BoreOfWhabylon*

I can see why people get addicted to flight tracker.

DP calls it International Curtain Twitching.

Looks as though she'll land in the UK tomorrow morning if she's on a commercial flight from Muscat.

Thoosa · 16/03/2022 14:17

@Mirw

This happened before then she was taken back to jail. She is not free until she comes through custom control in the UK.
I don’t think they grounded her from the air.
darlingdodo · 16/03/2022 14:18

This is making me teary. Some good news in amongst all the bleakness.

WeAreTheHeroes · 16/03/2022 14:19

That's simply not true @Mirw. Once the plane is out of Iranian airspace she should be fine. Oman is a friendly country.

WeAreTheHeroes · 16/03/2022 14:20

In fact, her husband could well be meeting her in Muscat.

TulipsGarden · 16/03/2022 14:21

Thank you for the FlightRadar link! I'd been searching earlier but couldn't see anything on Twitter. It's so addictive, I'm forever checking what flights are going over our house.

Such fantastic, deeply moving news.

theDudesmummy · 16/03/2022 14:21

Yes, when she is out of Iranian airspace she is free. Also tracking on flightradar.

Smokeahontas · 16/03/2022 14:22

I don’t think that’s true. I don’t recall her being on a flight out of the country. When did that happen?

This just isnt true. She is free. It's over.

Your post is just an example of people who really enjoy disaster and misery and gossiping about it so want to keep it going.

WeAreTheHeroes · 16/03/2022 14:22

@Thoosa - I was talking to a colleague the other day and found out she checks FlightRadar too. My kind of person. She's probably a Mumsnetter too Grin

purpleboy · 16/03/2022 14:23

Why is her plane going to muscat?

NoFriendsNoEnemies · 16/03/2022 14:24

This must be bittersweet for her. Finally she can be reunited with her daughter, but will likely never see her parents again.

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/03/2022 14:24

@WeAreTheHeroes she's apparently going to land at Brize Norton at around 10 pm tonight, so I imagine she will be on an RAF plane.

BeforeGodAndAllTheFish · 16/03/2022 14:25

@purpleboy

It's a private gulfstream chartered at short notice. Obviously we dont know the details but probably just the quickest route they could schedule with a link to a commercial flight home.

theDudesmummy · 16/03/2022 14:25

@Mirw not true at all "Customs control" in the UK have nothing to do with it. And this has not "happened before". She has been held in Iran the whole time. She only needs to be out of Iran, and she is then free of their jurisdiction and so free to go home.

Smokeahontas · 16/03/2022 14:25

When the plane gets past that red line I have drawn, she’s out of Iranian airspace.

WeAreTheHeroes · 16/03/2022 14:25

Because it's an Oman Airforce plane and Muscat is the capital of Oman. Plenty of commercial flights to the UK from there.

Smokeahontas · 16/03/2022 14:25

Try that again!

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe
theDudesmummy · 16/03/2022 14:26

The plane belongs to the Oman air force.

idiotfacelicker · 16/03/2022 14:26

@purpleboy

Why is her plane going to muscat?

Presumably quickest way to get her actually out of Iran. That's the priority so the Iranian Government no longer have access to her. Then they can get her home.

Fluffruff · 16/03/2022 14:26

Oman has long provided it’s good offices when it can to help secure the release of people in Iran. A few years back they helped secure the release of those young American hikers who accidentally crossed from Iraq to Iran while hiking - of course they were suspected to be spies and were detained for some time. Oman has a pretty good and long relationship with its neighbour.

Lesperance · 16/03/2022 14:26

Quite apart from the fact that she has never been on a plane and then taken back to jail, I'd be surprised if she went through customs. Do you also think they'll be checking her passport? I'm fairly sure they'll be getting her to her family as fast as possible. I think we can all agree that we'll breathe a sigh of relief when she gets out of Iranian airspace though.
BeforeGodAndAllTheFish · 16/03/2022 14:27

@purpleboy

Poster too soon.

Or it could be the closest place they could arrange a private plane to get her to a british military plane to bring them home.

TokyoSushi · 16/03/2022 14:27

I'm absolutely delighted at this news, it's been such a long time coming!
