@Febrier

Children are going missing and cases of human trafficking are being reported by aid groups and volunteers along Ukraine’s borders amid the chaos of the refugee crisis triggered by the Russian invasion... "This unfortunately is not a hypothetical case"

www.theguardian.com/global-development/2022/mar/12/children-going-missing-amid-chaos-at-ukraine-border-report-aid-groups-refugees

This it the first time I've wanted to say it, but fuck Putin. He is a gangster.

Acquiring slaves to sell was always a part of war right up till ... well it's never really stopped.
WhathaveIdoneagain · 12/03/2022 09:47

@minsmum I have posted the Metro link, although I saw it in multiple outlets (probably same owner). Sorry. My comment was about the state of paranoia.

I feel very tired after a good night's sleep and I cannot decide if it is the menopause or anxiety. I think the latter. I still cry all the time seeing the news.

DH asked me what to buy for Ukraine collection. I sad to him: just imagine that I am travelling alone with young child DC somewhere. What would I take? That really hit him. He bought the perfect things as well.

I agree re: Covid. My Mom wanted to go to Budapest, but she is worried about catching it. The figures are going up there, too.

Also there was a lot of news on the dangers of human trafficking at the borders. It must be a dream come true for organised crime: a lot of desperate young women and children Sad

Damnloginpopup · 12/03/2022 09:54

I think it's time for the west to unleash 99 Red Balloons again.

GallopingHighRoad · 12/03/2022 09:59
@Papertyger Nukes can go anywhere on the planet.

But you re right, the USA isn't going to get involved and i strongly suspect, wouldn't if Latvia was attacked in the future.

For those that doubt this... If Putin started mass extermination, in the millions, NATO would stand by and do nothing plus the argument that intervening means WW3, also applies equally if he attacked a NATO country i.e "why come to Latvias aid if it means Nukes landing in New York"

Bidens latest sanction is a ban on Vodka and Diamonds, you really couldn't make up this level of weakness if you tried.
At some point in the future we are going to have to take this head on. If not now, we can kick the can down the road to our kids or our grandkids but it is not going away. It will fester until then.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 12/03/2022 10:01

So we have a full scale nuclear war? There won’t be a plant for our kids if that happens

The original German version please.
eglantine7 · 12/03/2022 10:04

This is very interesting. Yes Putin and his circle are gangsters:

If you think that would happen. I do not. Russia is everything for The Kremlin.
DuncinToffee · 12/03/2022 10:13
@Neverendingdust

I'm not so sure we are over COVID.
I received an ominous text to say don't go to a and e this weekend as our trust is overwhelmed.
I looked at COVID figures, last week down 7 % this week jump up of 40%.
Now I know that takes time to work through the system and into hospital but I'm not sure we are out of the woods yet.
Frimley? We got texts as well.

I do wonder when we are going to have something in the charts about this?

Unless Putin bans Western music as well?

Papertyger · 12/03/2022 10:19

@eglantine7

Extremely well written article, thank you!

It did stress something I've been saying from the very beginning, that it's the children of these gangsters who are going to be bringing pressure on their parents.
Don't underestimate that!

Papertyger · 12/03/2022 10:20

Duncin, no!
So that's another area then?

MagicFox · 12/03/2022 10:25

Found this analysis interesting: www.newyorker.com/news/q-and-a/stephen-kotkin-putin-russia-ukraine-stalin

Papertyger it looks that way, never had a text like that before.

WeAreTheHeroes · 12/03/2022 10:27

Ime the privileged children of very rich people are far more likely to be under the control of their parents than self-driven and branching out on their own.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 12/03/2022 10:27

Interesting comparison with the International Brigades who volunteered for the Spanish Civil War.

Brigadiers, however, were fighting another war – about moral truth – that they did eventually win. While politicians in western democracies were too terrified of Hitler to send troops or weapons, the brigadiers argued that fascism must eventually be stopped with arms.

When Hitler started the second world war five months after the Spanish war ended, they were proven right. The allies’ final victory meant that the wider aim of stopping fascism was also achieved.

Papertyger · 12/03/2022 10:28

Egaltyne article is also extremely interesting in that it explains that there is a lack of cohesion between people who may undermine Putin, but, humiliating his top brass may also prove his undoing.

DGRossetti · 12/03/2022 10:29

Cry havoc and let slip the balloons of war !

There's probably a Ken Branagh film in it.

(I vaguely wonder what the issues around the west organising a ten-million-person march into Ukraine would be ? That's a corridor into Ukraine that ten million unarmed individuals walked along daring Putin to bomb it before the world. Who'd do it in principle. DW says I could push her ...)

LizDoingTheCanCan · 12/03/2022 10:30

Duncin, Paperty, same for QMC in Nottingham, "don't come to A&E, we may not be able to treat you".

Papertyger · 12/03/2022 10:31

We are the heroes
Some will be some won't.

Egaltyne article says one child of Putin's top brass has been speaking out.re control , thinking about the mad aspect do you think the parental control goes as far as...be thankful to be exterminated for mother Russia and Putin?

I don't think so!

Papertyger · 12/03/2022 10:32

Liz, that's extremely worrying?

I know march is classically a very tough time for the NHS but whether that's COVID or not I don't know?

Papertyger · 12/03/2022 10:34

DG Rosetti.. I've also thought along those lines, ghandi.

This. A fundraiser for Ukraine re release of 99 red balloons. World protest on foot to support Ukraine.
holliem91 · 12/03/2022 10:47

@LizDoingTheCanCan shit, that's my hospital! Let's hope I don't have a medical emergency Shock

My A&E here says this at least once a month, it's not necessarily anything to worry about re covid
