@Bluebellsunderthetrees videos aside, what do you think or Putin’s army invading Ukraine and indiscriminately bombing women, children and old people; raping women; putting cities under siege starved of basic necessities all the while lying to Russians about there being a war and misleading international diplomats in the months preceding the war?

EsmaCannonball · 12/03/2022 16:11

Neo-Nazism in Ukraine is a hangover from its days as a corrupt Russian puppet state. It was a symptom of oppression, poverty and instability.
Since the country moved into being a more progressive democracy neo-Nazism has been on the decline.

Russia, on the other hand, has seen an increase in neo-Nazis and an increase in nationalist expansionism, seeking to establish a Greater Russia in former Soviet states.

There are neo-Nazis in this country and France and the US and just about most western countries you could name. Should we be invaded and turned into the next Belarus too?

Incidentally, I've just been reading about a small Russian bot farm that was discovered in Odessa last year. Five Russian-backed individuals who were paid to create and disseminate false news about life in Ukraine for the Russian market.
@Ijsbear Once again your take on the video - you keep criticizing me but not it ?
Are you a far right sympathizer?
Yup, I eat babies for breakfast and plan the overthrow of democracy every day.
This is a very interesting article, I learned a lot.

(Warning... it is very long, and depressing but really worth a read)

Eurgh, that made me feel sick with despair

Yes, the losses do not indicate who is winning. The Russians have lost far more planes than the Ukrainians but not as a proportion of their respective air forces. We should have found a way to get planes to the Ukrainians. Russia isn't playing by the rules and if Putin aims to expand this war he will find an excuse regardless of whether we follow the rules.

Why would what I posted make you assume I support any of that?

Bluebellsunderthetrees
lemediapourtous is not really "the French press."
And even they have a warning that they can't guarantee the truth of that individual account.
Anne-Laure Bonnel has been inaccurate in several of her statements, particularly as regards the number of civilians killed in Donbas.

Natsku · 12/03/2022 16:25

Checking in to the new thread.

Regarding how people in real life are talking about it, here in Finland DD says children are talking about it a lot at school, and the news is full of articles about finding your nearest bunker and how so many of them are old and in bad shape, people stocking up on camping stoves and other emergency supplies, local Facebook group is full of posts about helping Ukrainians so I think people are talking about it quite a lot, and panicking.

Been an upsurge in reservists contacting the military to ask what their wartime tasks would be as well and people signing up for national defence courses (especially women. The women only ones sound interesting actually, I'm tempted)

AgnesWestern · 12/03/2022 16:25

@Roussette That article made me feel really anxious and depressed at the same time.

So I’m conclusion we’re in this for the long haul and Putin has no plans for an exit ramp?

We don’t know that for sure though do we?
Maybe talks in Jerusalem will come to something?

It’s sad to feel like there’s no hope, especially when I look at my 3 year old and think of what he may go through. It makes me want to cry.

MarshaBradyo · 12/03/2022 16:27

Not sure I’m up for a depressing article but I still feel some hope that this will be a Ukraine / Putin issue

Which is obviously bad enough

Are we definitely in world war three then? I didn’t think we were just yet, I was hoping we’d avoid it.

Everyday I wake up feeling more hopeful and every evening I go to bed feeling sad and hopeless again. Then a bad night ensues, including nightmares.

MarshaBradyo · 12/03/2022 16:29

I don’t think we’re in WW3?

If this ended tomorrow we wouldn’t refer to it as that would we..

BBC

Aim of sanctions is to corner Putin - French presidency

We've been giving details of today's call between French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and their Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

The French presidency has now released more information about what was said during the nearly 90-minute conversation.

It describes it as a difficult discussion
Macron and Scholz asked for a ceasefire and an end to hostilities before starting a structured discussion on the next moves
Putin did not show any willingness to end the war in Ukraine, Mr Macron's office says
The French statement goes on to talk about what could happen next:

New sanctions are to be examined in the coming days in Brussels by members of the EU
Sanctions will take into account latest war developments including the siege of Mariupol
The aim of these historic “Iranian style” sanctions is to corner President Putin and side-line him from the international community

CrunchyCarrot · 12/03/2022 16:31

BBC showing the sunset over Kyiv now, frequent gunshots clearly heard. :( Do we know how many people are still there?

Bluebellsunderthetrees · 12/03/2022 16:32

@AuldAlliance I saw the warning which is good because it's not done on all the witness accounts posted here. However it also ties in with exactly what the ethnic Greeks said was their experience as well .

AgnesWestern · 12/03/2022 16:33

@DuncinToffee Oh. I thought there were some positive moves forward as outlined in a previous post.
Maybe I misinterpreted sky news.

AgnesWestern · 12/03/2022 16:33

@MarshaBradyo No. I wouldn’t refer to it as world war three if it ended tomorrow. Definitely not. But maybe others would.

MarshaBradyo · 12/03/2022 16:38
@MarshaBradyo No. I wouldn’t refer to it as world war three if it ended tomorrow. Definitely not. But maybe others would.
Me either Agnes

I’d call it Putin’s invasion (or war) into Ukraine or something along those lines

I think WW3 is misplaced and not helpful atm

1dayatatime · 12/03/2022 16:42

@MarshaBradyo

I don’t think we’re in WW3?

If this ended tomorrow we wouldn’t refer to it as that would we..

Actually if there was a WW3 and it would be highly likely that it goes nuclear then I don't think there would actually be anyone left alive to call it that.
AgnesWestern · 12/03/2022 16:45

Why can’t we all just live in peace?
I don’t want to be involved, I just want to get on with my life, like most people.
Sick of the minorities (mainly rich while men) getting to dictate the lives of us minions. Cannon fodder.
When is the revolution coming?

Alexandra2001 · 12/03/2022 16:46

@Papertyger
Alexandra you do realise we are stunted by inaction here precisely because of the threat of Nuclear war confused but trident isn't relevant?
Surely it's never been more relevant?

Even at this moment in time I think our army is ok. Happy to be corrected!

I didn't say Trident wasn't relevant but is it being used or threatened to be used to stop the destruction and killing in Ukraine?
Its also not going to be used independently of the USA's nuclear arsenal.

If you listen to Biden and every other NATO leader we have not gone in to help Ukraine because it isn't in NATO & would lead to WW3 - which is exactly the same argument not to do anything if he attacked Poland.

As for our armed forces, they have suffered years of cuts since 1991, & rightly so but these need reversing, an infantry of 23k and a navy of 19 frigates is inadequate, so we did plan on ordering 140 f35's that was cut to 35 - bare in mind you cannot deploy all what you ve got, approx a 1/3rd at a time.
