JK Rowling matching donations to Ukraine appeal

I think it's bloody wonderful we have an opinionated rich women who has the ear of the media prepared to talk sensibly and stick her hand in her pocket. Brilliant.

FourTeaFallOut · 08/03/2022 11:22

I suppose she could waste all that wealth and cultural capital by dicking around in space like the rest of them?

ClaudineClare · 08/03/2022 11:49

A question for he JKR bashers. When you give to charity do you thoroughly research the CEOs and boards of those charities to check their stance on the issues that are important to you?

I don't agree with all of JKR's views on teans rights, but I don't think she is transphobic. She is a brilliant philanthropist, though.

ClaudineClare · 08/03/2022 11:50

Trans rights, sorry.

bishophaha · 08/03/2022 11:55

Thanks for the heads up. Lumos have been doing some great things.
You know who I find a pain in the neck worth posting about? Someone who's too big for their boots, nasty and full of himself?

That Putin.
Oh, and has slaughtered innocent people, obviously.

Flickasmum · 08/03/2022 12:02

Thank you for posting. Just off to donate ❤

TheOnlyMrsMac · 08/03/2022 13:32

Bumping for the lunchtime/early afternoon crowd.

AlternativePerspective · 08/03/2022 13:52

I don’t have an opinion on JKR one way or the other.

I do think however that people are quick to insult anyone who dares to not see her as some kind of angel do so purely because of her women’s rights issues.

I guarantee that if this thread had been about Meghan or Harry, or even Kate and William the comments would have been vastly different.

DownWhichOfLate · 08/03/2022 13:57

She’s fantastic! How she can stay so dignified in the face of such nastiness is quite incredible. And the lack of intelligence of those who twist her words or misquote her is just ridiculous.

Yeah! So true!

I guarantee if this had been a thread about something totally different, then the content of the thread would definitely not have been the same!

Wow!

DownWhichOfLate · 08/03/2022 14:40

If the thread had been about something totally different…. Would definitely not have been the same. Confused

Viviennemary · 08/03/2022 14:42

Its a wonder a temple hasn't been erected yet to the Great Goddess Rowling. Maybe some of you could start a go fund me. Hmm

FourTeaFallOut · 08/03/2022 14:43

You'll never go hungry with that chip on your shoulder.

What is your motivation in posting on this thread?

Are you hoping to stop some people from donating to help women & children in Ukraine?

Or are you just being nasty because you enjoy it?

Your posts are the most pointless, substance-free, tedious crap I've read today. Which is saying something.

Clymene · 08/03/2022 14:48

I didn't think I could think less of you @Viviennemary. Well done for proving me wrong.

Good idea! I’ll get one set up! I’ve heard JKR will match fund any donations for it. Wink

I'll have to remember that! What a classic!!!
Rainbowshit · 08/03/2022 15:32

Loving the TRA tantrums over this. They just can't cancel Jk and it gets right under their skin.

PancakeBae · 08/03/2022 15:40

@Viviennemary

Most people are just giving without the need to announcd it.
Surely someone who's been around these parts as long as you have, VM, realises that most people are replying in order to keep the original post bumped on the front page, not just to polish their halos?
MrsBrodie · 08/03/2022 15:40

Thanks to the bitter posters for continuing to bump the thread!

I agree with you, I see it time and time again with JKR but with absolutely no one else. A simple "I don't really like her" is met with quite a few insults by posters on some threads (not necessarily this one). It's a pity.
JuliaSways · 08/03/2022 16:00

"Or are you just being nasty because you enjoy it?"

Advance Search will answer that question for you @TristesseDurera 😉😂

BasiliskStare · 08/03/2022 16:03

@Viviennemary - JKR stuck her head above the parapet to talk about trans rights versus women's rights - she did not have to - but many agree with her ( I do )

She has ( because she writes books ) already given £18m and counting towards orphanages in the Ukraine & is now offering to match any donations up to £1m.

I don't think anyone thinks she is going to go without a roof over her and her family's head but she is doing things and they will very possibly make a difference.

Yes she has made a whole load of money from writing children's books ( but also the money she has made from Robert Galbraith - not children' ' books ).

I do not agree with every one of her opinions but I do believe she is a philanthropist & I have donated because she said she will match it & I think her heart is in the right place & she has put her money where her mouth is - I am pretty sure not all could claim that.

BasiliskStare · 08/03/2022 16:05

Oh just to say see upthread she started this charity before the current situation

Clymene · 08/03/2022 16:05

But what reasons do people have to dislike her @DragonSnapCrimson? She was a single parent who wrote a phenomenally successful book series, became a multimillionaire and set up at least two charities to benefit women and children.

She's not in the public eye very much apart from wading into the trans debate.

What other reasons do people dislike her except for disliking women who advocate for women and girls rights?
