Thank you for sharing this. I have looked at the website and really appreciate what her charity is doing for children. I have donated. This is a great charity and JK Rowling is an incredible woman.

grinbear · 08/03/2022 00:11

Amazing woman. I've just come back from a gig where the band encouraged us all to shut F*k J.K Rowling, after shouting F*k Putin. Really annoyed me.

grinbear · 08/03/2022 00:12
 • shout, not shut !
LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 08/03/2022 00:29

Oh wow @grinbear — can you say which band?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/03/2022 00:39

I don’t think compassionate people are transphobic, the replies here are very confusing

Yes, you do sound quite confused.

OldWivesTale · 08/03/2022 01:05

Except she's not transphobic.
BasiliskStare · 08/03/2022 01:49

I've just donated - so heartening the money does not go to admin etc - just straight to what people think they are donating to

ursuslemonade · 08/03/2022 01:51

Just goes to show how evil she is.
(Nope, she is just the best ❤)

I suspect LoopyDream is similar to those TRAs on YouTube who are trying “expose” anyone who doesn’t believe in their same ethos. I don’t want to derail the thread so I’ll leave it at that.

Yup, it was Lambrini Girls. They were the support band for Destroy Boys last night in Camden. It really put me off the whole night to be honest.
teawamutu · 08/03/2022 08:22

Just donated.

When JKR's detractors do something positive to help, rather than just slag her off for wrongthink, could someone @ me? I won't wait around.

Carriemac · 08/03/2022 08:59

She's a legend

Icemast · 08/03/2022 09:02
Also worth knowing that Lumos doesn't use donation money to pay for things like renting office space, fundraising, admin. That is all paid for because JK Rowling signed over the rights to The Tales of Beedle the Bard to the charity so all profits from that go straight to them, and they use this to pay running costs. So far they have had £18million from this arrangement, which means they can guarantee your donation goes to the cause. Details here: www.wearelumos.org/get-involved/100-pledge/
Wow I didn't know that, incredible!

ThreeRingCircus · 08/03/2022 09:15

JKR is absolutely incredible. Such an inspirational woman.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 08/03/2022 09:17

I love her!

FourTeaFallOut · 08/03/2022 09:18

@Viviennemary

Most people are just giving without the need to announcd it.
I'm glad she did, now I know where to put my money. She really is amazing.

I would much rather know that by donating £10 to Lumos that would actually equate to £20.

Do you need help understanding the replies?

You see, JKR has offered to match donations up to £1M and that is incredibly generous and compassionate. It’s also a charity that she funds through her work so all of the proceeds can go to those who need it.

JKR is also very strongly in support of women’s rights and is vocal about that even though she knows that TRAs will attack her or ignorant people will jump on the bandwagon to incorrectly call her a transphobe. Her willingness to stand up for her beliefs regardless of the outcome for her is incredibly brave and compassionate for the women who needed to hear her voice.

Apart from being two incidences of her being compassionate, the two are not related.

Hope this helps.
