@OrangeBlossomsinthesun

What is an EMP?
Electromagnetic Pulse Weapon

Too many tweets to copy and paste from mobile.twitter.com/JimmySecUK

Visa suspending services now in Russia reports Sky News, even last week I was very much 'meh, sanctions are rubbish, won't make any difference' but these are certainly some hefty sanctions now

Shuuu · 05/03/2022 22:39

Let’s not forget retaliation can come in Kant forms, perhaps government scandals, we know there’s likely to be many. He might choose to reveal how corrupt our government is. Release conversations, bribes, criminal activity

wheresmymojo · 05/03/2022 22:39

Doesn't seem to be any official confirmation yet on exactly what has happened at Belgorod.

No casualties or property damage seemingly.

Lots of chat about whether it is UKR attack on a military vehicle convoy spotted there a few hours earlier or whether it is a false flag by RU.

All seems to be conjecture by non-experts though as yet.

yoolia · 05/03/2022 22:42

People need to realise as well that a key part of Putin's MO is spreading fear and panic. That's why he is always pretty vague with his threats.

But ask yourself this....would you be surprised?

And although it may lead to a few resignations a reshuffle or two, the wheels of democracy will keep turning and no resignation or reshuffle will suddenly change the UK's position on Russia being the aggressor.

So it would just be a few red faces, some P45's and we will move on.

yoolia · 05/03/2022 22:43

So it would just be a few red faces, some P45's and we will move on.

Probably depends on what the scandals are. There is potential for civil unrest, depending.

SirVixofVixHall · 05/03/2022 22:44

I am recommending reading “Nothing is True and Everything is Possible - Adventures in Modern Russia . By Peter Pomerantsev.
Very informative on politics in Russia.

He might have the full copy of the Sue Gray report....

@SirVixofVixHall
Yes, can I recommend this one too. Great insight into the mindset and the toll that the system takes on people.

I'm sorry about your Dad xx

I'm sorry you're having such a crap year!!

It's hard when you're not all together. 💐

EezyOozy · 05/03/2022 22:47

@SirVixofVixHall thanks I'll read that, sounds very interesting

You know that big table with lots of women sat next to Putin earlier today...

Well, I think in this wonderful bit of propaganda, what Mr Zelensky is trying to say is,
twitter.com/llamedos77/status/1500237736845926400

Look at the magic semi transparent microphone.

I did say it looked like a staged event and was about optics. What wasn't quite what I was alluding to! I have no idea if it is blue screen or not, but it certainly does make you think it might be!

This is quite special as propaganda goes. I take my hat up to whoever in Ukraine came up with this absoluete gem, whether it be Zelensky or one of his team. This is quite brilliant.

That big long table image is haunting Putin!

yoolia · 05/03/2022 22:48

Everyone I know (IRL, not on this thread) who lived through the cold war is utterly blase about this escalating.

Shuuu · 05/03/2022 22:49

@TheSillyMastiff I’m not sure what the answer is here & you raise good points. All the people worrying about aggression from Russia need not to. Whatever is coming our way I don’t think it’ll be aggression in a physical way.

As much as Putin sensors his news reported to his ppl, so does the west so I’m left thinking whether he is likely to reveal our war crimes, similar crimes to which the west is up in arms about right now. That would hit a nerve

TheSillyMastiff · 05/03/2022 22:49

Even if the scandal was Brexit was rigged and major russian donors helped Brexit succeed with a systematic and prolific mission of misinformation. People from remain will go to parliament Square, a few thousand on a rainy Saturday afternoon wave some flags, shout at Parliament and in a week or two it would all blow over. Not like we can reverse Brexit now.

There isn't a scandal that's going to suddenly make the UK population already fed up from Covid burn Parliament to the ground and murder Boris.

We haven't got the time or energy for that right now. We've done our civil riots and government overthrowing centuries ago, nobody can be bothered with that again now realistically.

ROFL at Zelensky and the microphone! Grin

Catquestion · 05/03/2022 22:53

@yoolia

could Putin use a EMP

He COULD do anything. I daresay he could engineer the release of lions and crocodiles onto the streets of London if he wanted to, or fly in naked on a hang glider into Buckingham Palace with a kalishnikov.

Is he likely to? No.

I think this is possibly my favourite post on all of these threads!!
yoolia · 05/03/2022 22:53

Half of me thinks a lot of this is posturing from Putin (WRT the West and sanctions/retaliation).

StormzyinaTCup · 05/03/2022 22:53

@RedToothBrush - bloody brilliant. That table with the women made me lol when you first posted it, there was no way that was real and Zelensky's response is just fab.

notimagain · 05/03/2022 22:54

@Fivetoomany

This may sound crazy (I read a lot of 'end of the world' type books) but could Putin use a EMP? This would then start and end ww3 in seconds. We couldn't retaliate. We would lose use of all electronics. Not at all trying to fearmonger. I had a quick Google and can see it has been discussed briefly by some journalists.
I guess those journalists haven’t heard about or didn’t discuss hardening against an EMP

An EMP strike does not automatically mean we couldn’t retaliate

Yeah, well they were never happy with NATO bombing Belgrade so it's not surprising really. It's a sore subject....

RedToothBrush · 05/03/2022 22:59

Serbia is a very interesting and beautiful country. Being sore about NATO is one way to put it.

They are very close politically and financially to Russia - but its also got a very large pro-EU movement too. Which causes some tension.
