@RedToothBrush

Re the Northern Russian Column.

Apparently the Ukranians deliberately flooded the area ahead of their advance, knowing it would be impossible to move heavy vehicles over it.

Was just chance with the weather being shit.

I would have thought for the Russians it would be better to say that oops the weather defeated them than actually the Ukrainians had simple but effective tactics. Grin

@PrescriptionWine

Anyone heard of a white flag attack in Russia? My partner is convinced this has happened and presented a video.

If so fuck - that’s scary

What's a white flag attack? I did Google but nothing came up.
vera99 · 05/03/2022 21:02

Sometimes in times of darkness, we need to be inspired this does it for me.

GallopingHighRoad · 05/03/2022 21:04

Show the white flag of surrender then turn guns on the enemy I guess.

Thewayshetalks · 05/03/2022 21:04

I just googled and daily mail ran a story a few days ago that experts was worried Russia would do a white flag attack (where they fire at their own villages and make it look like someone else)
Nothing else has come up today

Never heard of that - not sure I want to know either by the sounds of it!!
GallopingHighRoad · 05/03/2022 21:05

Or surrender but be killed anyway. Both are ware crimes, but I have not heard of the term and I am ex-military.

AgnesWestern · 05/03/2022 21:06

Sorry if this has already been posted but thought this was an interesting set of tweets about the PM of Israel visiting Putin.

IWantItThatWay002 · 05/03/2022 21:06

@Thewayshetalks do you mean a false flag attack?

PrescriptionWine · 05/03/2022 21:09

A white flag (probs not the right terminology) is very simply, when a country bombs one of their own cities and then blames the enemy for doing it.

I am pretty sure in the early stages of the conflict the first bombing Russia said it wasn’t them and it was a white or false flag to start aggression

Russia demands US guarantees over revival of Iran nuclear accord
Moscow seeks to ensure that sanctions imposed over Ukraine invasion do not impede its trade with Tehran

Russia is seeking written guarantees from Washington that US sanctions imposed on the country do not impede its ability to trade with Iran, a move that risks complicating efforts to revive the 2015 nuclear accord.

Moscow made the demand as western officials said they are close to a deal with Iran that would bring the US back into the agreement that Tehran signed with world powers. This would mean the Islamic republic limiting its nuclear activity in return for sanctions relief.

and

Ali Vaez, an Iran expert at the Crisis Group think-tank, said Moscow’s demands were a “sign that the commingling of the two issues [the Russian invasion and the Iran talks] has started”. He added that the US could issue waivers for work related to the transfer of excess fissile material to Russia.

Iran has ramped up its nuclear activity since then US president Donald Trump’s decision in 2018 to unilaterally abandon the accord and impose crippling sanctions on the Islamic republic.

President Joe Biden’s administration has pledged to rejoin the deal and lift many sanctions if Tehran falls back into compliance with the original accord. It has been holding indirect talks with Iranian negotiators, mediated by the EU, in Vienna.

So America wants to revert to the old deal.

Israel doesn't want that to happen, but they aren't part of the deal themselves.

They go to Russia to talk about it, to get Russia to support their agenda. Then they go to visit Scholz in Germany and Macron in Paris.

Yesterday the British and France were saying a deal 'was close'

But Israel don't bother coming to the UK, (Johnson urged Iran to back the deal at the end of last year, though todays newspapers are full of 'diplomats warn against weak deal' ). Obviously they don't think we worth approaching.

I mean fuck me, who wants to go visit Truss and Johnson?!

Why are we wondering why the Russians are threatening us? Is it just that everyone else is just too polite to tell us to stop being bloody annoying and its a good meditative process to shout at the Brits.

(More seriously, it probably us getting the blame for helping to train up soliders in Ukraine. Its got to sting knowing that we had done that and their logistics are sucking).

Thewayshetalks · 05/03/2022 21:19
@Thewayshetalks do you mean a false flag attack?
Yes, different news articles called it either white flag or false flag

otterlybonkers · 05/03/2022 21:24

so now he's declared the sanctions as an act of war from the west.

I just cant with this fucker.

RedToothBrush · 05/03/2022 21:26

Putting a warning on this one: This one is a difficult read

Mariupol Diaries: Scenes Of Despair And Resolve In The Besieged Ukrainian City
Associated Press journalists document what life has become in the southeastern Ukrainian city, which would be a key victory for the Russians.

notimagain · 05/03/2022 21:26

@Justanotherlurker

Reading the reports about how the day has been for the Russia Airforce.

There is lots of videos showing that the weapons shipments have made it over there, Ben Wallace said that the gov don't want to comment on specifics, but that we've supplied additional AA weapons now. (in addition to the usual stuff we have been shipping over since jan), probably means we sent some starstreak.

Also reports coming through that Germany's stuff isn't useful at all as its rusty/etc

“Rusty”….Don’t get me * started in that German MANPAD “deal”…..if the situation really is as was as reported yesterday then whoever came up with it needs to go and hang their head in shame, it was utterly an despicable thing to agree to do.

Sounds like someone just dug around, found several hundred (?Thousand plus) ex East German stock thirty plus years old SAM-7s (Strela) that they had no use for and tried to dump them on the Ukrainians…

Problem is it’s an ancient system, a missile with a very basic seeker head, so very prone to being decoyed by even very simple counter measures like flares, warheads possibly time expired and unreliable, similarly with the (rocket) .

RedToothBrush · 05/03/2022 21:27

The Washington Post @washingtonpost
Japan announced it would accept refugees from Ukraine and send bulletproof vests to Kyiv — extraordinary measures taken by one of the countries least welcoming to refugees and also has a self-imposed arms exports ban

youhadmeatjello · 05/03/2022 21:28

@otterlybonkers the wording is important here - he said almost an act of war and thank god it hasn’t come to that yet.

I’ve just seen the pictures of the children in the childrens home all crammed into the basement shelter together because they couldn’t be evacuated. Why couldn’t they be evacuated? Is it red tape? They couldn’t get them out quick enough? I wish they could get them out. I’d gladly take some of the children - I know it’s not as simple as that but my heart breaks just looking at the pictures.

Thanks for that, I was just told it in passing by family member in a rush.

The images ive seen on the news are burned into my mind for all time. The pain and fear in people's faces, that poor man stood crying as his house burns down.

I don't know how i feel about Zelenskyy saying that NATO is responsible for the deaths (no fly zone). I understand his anger and frustration and admire his resolve, but it is such a damning thing to say. I feel helpless in the face of it all.

Russia's

RedToothBrush · 05/03/2022 21:36

The Telegraph @Telegraph
The Defence Secretary Ben Wallace has warned that Russian president Vladimir Putin always ‘asks for more’ and fears he is "toying" with President Macron.

Again. Why is Russia being more pissy with the UK?

Amichai Stein @AmichaiStein1
Putin has instructed his Cabinet to draw up a list of countries that have imposed sanctions against Russia within 2 days

Two days???

I thought thats how long it would take to invade and take over Ukraine not make a list?

I guess they banned the internet though.

It does make me think of this:

TheSillyMastiff · 05/03/2022 21:37

The Russians logistics have been shit, no matter how much they want to try and throw glitter on a shit and call it amazing, it's been a shit show. Their air supremacy has also been lacking. I mean today the Russian Air Force has taken an absolute hammering. Flying open, flying low, no tactical avoidance or tactical flying. Just wandering in to open airspace with a fully armed anti stinger missile and javeline possessing Ukrainian army waiting for them 😂

BeyondPurpleTulips · 05/03/2022 21:37

Place, raking - taken me all day to catch up!

Abra1d1 · 05/03/2022 21:37
