Russia puts its nuclear deterrent on high alert

Does anyone know what that actually means? Is he threatening nuclear war?

OP posts:
BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 27/02/2022 15:43

Putin may use tactical nuclear weapons, which are much smaller than the strategic weapons.

BenjiMcSchmenzie · 27/02/2022 15:43

Putin is definitely seriously (physically) unwell.

 • It’s obvious from his puffy face, and tightly-stretched skin on his cheeks, that he’s taking steroids - anyone who’s ever had to take prednisolone for cancer, lung disease etc will recognise this side-effect.
 • he’s paranoid about Covid

Let’s hope that either the cancer or a bullet gets him within the week 🤞

ABitOfAShitShow · 27/02/2022 15:43

To the OP who asked what happens if they’re shot down- I think they just become a radioactive hazard that specialists have to dispose of.

Like the ones who deal with Russia’s old, decomposing nukes in in the sea: www.bbc.com/future/article/20200901-the-radioactive-risk-of-sunken-nuclear-soviet-submarines

Thanks to Daddy ShitShow for my surprising knowledge in this area.
@BettyBag that's my point - people on this board were saying the invasion wouldn't happen.
Sorry your post seemed to implying that Putin not acting in the way this board predicted is evidence that he is irrational.

I thought he has obviously had a face lift tbh.
Kassle · 27/02/2022 15:45

he’s paranoid about Covid

This is partly why I don't think he's on a suicide mission, he's a massive coward.

Kassle · 27/02/2022 15:46

Putin has been having work done on his face for years, it just looks worse and worse the older you get.

Sixmonthson · 27/02/2022 15:46

If you have Facebook I recommend a site called Simple Politics. It’s factual but puts things in perspective.

I thought it looked like he had had Botox injections

@Adeleskirts

Personally I don’t think Putin is the sort to back down. And right now he’s being humiliated. He thought this would be over by now. He’s not going to back down, he will dig his heels in and attempt to take Ukraine at all costs.

Honestly yes right now he’s threatening nuclear war and yes he’s pretty much being doing it from the start as he wants everyone to stop helping the Ukraine, to stop giving them weapons and aid. He sees it as an act of aggression against him and Russia.

I personally believe if it comes to it and they really think he might do this, then he will be taken out before he is able to do it. Either by his own people, NATO or the USA etc, I think they will take him out to save millions of lives if it comes to it and they think the risk is real.

God I hope you're right becuase I'm certain he would push that button rather than admit defeat even if it wiped out his own people

I will look right now Grin
Whattochoosenow · 27/02/2022 15:47

The Russians have lost Kharkiv due to the local people fighting back. It’s not going the way Putin had planned so he’s rattled. He’ll end up being tried for war crimes if he survives this.
Can you imagine us Brits taking up arms to defend ourselves? The Ukrainians are certainly brave.

Jellykat · 27/02/2022 15:47

Why wouldnt Putin nuke anyone?
Things are not progressing as fast as he'd like, the world (bar abstention from China) has spoken against him, even the Taliban fgs... do you think hes going to turn around and say 'oh well, i got it wrong, as you were' ?
I wuldnt bet on it..

JudgeJ · 27/02/2022 15:48

@DinnoWoman

Hopefully it's brinkmanship.

This must be what the Cuban Missile Crisis felt like, except this isn't a misunderstanding.

The Cuban Missile Crisis in 1963 wasn't predicated on a misunderstanding, that would have been Able Archer in 1983. In 1963 the Russians were starting to place ballistic weapons on Cuba, 70 miles from the American coast. The Americans threatened to stop and search vessels carrying suspected weapons across the Atlantic unless they turned round, it was frightening brinkmanship, there was a deadline. Eventually the Russians turned round, as someone in the White House said, He just blinked. Years later it was found that other agreements had been made regarding American weapons based in Turkey.
QueenCelestia · 27/02/2022 15:48

The whole purpose of nuclear weapons is as a deterrent. Putin knows as well as anyone that the retaliation from firing one would wipe Russia out. Ok it's Putin and he is not a reasonable person so nothing is ever certain with him, but it's highly unlikely there is anyone else in the Russian government who would go along with this. It might even be enough to cause his assaniation if anyone thought he was crazy enough to go ahead and do it.

I also agree that China, the most powerful country likely to be at at all supportive of Russia, will not want him to go down this route either. China is all about soft power. It doesn't want the markets it makes a fortune from selling to to be obliterated in a nuclear attack.

For several reasons, all of which have been discussed on this thread, if you read it.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 27/02/2022 15:49

His face looks very round and bloated now. He's also gained quite a bit of weight elsewhere. This would indicate corticosteroid use. They also cause agitation and aggression in some people.

QueenCelestia · 27/02/2022 15:49

assassination

PicsInRed · 27/02/2022 15:50

Putin's highly unlikely to use his nukes. He isn't going to want to extinguish his and his elites' massive investments in the UK.

He is however highly likely to use his new thermobaric bomb on Kyiv and is probably effecting a state of readiness in preparation for deploying that war crime upon the civilians of Kyiv.

I thought that watching these recent videos. His face is very puffy and I don’t think it’s just age (or filler Grin).
480Widdio · 27/02/2022 15:50

Hopefully he will be assassinated,as soon as possible.

Kassle · 27/02/2022 15:50

Given the amount of complaining when the shops ran out of pasta, no I can't.

I can shoot a gun, and I know self defence. I learnt as a child (my Dad taught me, because of what happened in his own home country). Doubt I'd be much use though!

Kassle · 27/02/2022 15:51

Yes, very sadly I think that or a chemical weapon is next for him, if these "talks" fail.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 27/02/2022 15:51

Nah, it's not filler, he's gone all fat.

CantStartaFireWithoutaSpark · 27/02/2022 15:53

Where is the fear about him hitting the U.K coming from?

Reading this, while I live on my London flat is not comforting.
