Does anyone know what that actually means? Is he threatening nuclear war?

Good posts @RedToothBrush and @Chestofdraws

raspberryjamchicken · 27/02/2022 18:22

I have actually been quite surprised to see such a "traditional" tanks and foot soldiers style of warfare from Russia. I studied International Relations nearly 20 years ago (certainly from the more powerful nations) and even then we were told this type of warfare was rarely going to be seen any more and it would all be chemical weapons, drones etc and, more recently, cyber warfare.

BiscuitLover3678 · 27/02/2022 18:23

I don’t get it though. All it does it destroy the world for him as much as anyone else, so it would make no sense for him to do anything.

I’m not even scared as it’s so ridiculous.

Abra1d1 · 27/02/2022 18:23

You always need the troops on ground to hold territory.

BiscuitLover3678 · 27/02/2022 18:23

Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of Putin.

MermaidEyes · 27/02/2022 18:24

RedToothBrush you always make excellent and informative posts. I remember some of your posts were the most level headed on the Covid boards.

@Mummyratbag

My point being it's not just a big red button on Putin's desk, others are involved and they hopefully aren't as far removed from reality as Putin. They are humans with families they love, they aren't machines.

That's reassuring. I've been trying to Google and find a bit out about putin, does he have a wife, children? Are they not telling him

Fiefofum · 27/02/2022 18:26

Special forces anyone? It’s a start…

He's got kids. Grandkids. Surely even the biggest nut job out would never want to cause any harm to their own flesh and blood even if they think nothing of killing others. He is truly insane and he needs taking out asap - it doesn't sound like he has an ardent following who would be devastated if he went and feel the need to carry on this destruction

Boris Johnson scoffed at the suggestion a couple of months ago. That aged well for him.

The crime of family annihilation (killing yourself and your family inc children) is not that uncommon and it is particularly common amongst narcissists.

Putin has an ex wife 2 grown up daughter's , then a hidden wife he doesn't acknowledge in public she's an ex Olympic gymnast he has 3 children with her , twins were born in 2018 so they are very young .

FlouncerSIT · 27/02/2022 18:30

@Viviennemary That's because Putin was so far up Trump's sphincter it was unreal. And if we all live long enough, the symbiotic relationship between the two is likely to become extremely apparent (though it's hard to tell which one's the parasite and which one's the host at this point).

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 27/02/2022 18:31

He is not thinking about his kids or grandkids now is he, had he done so he would not have started a massive way directly next to Russia.

I guess he imagines his children with fine in the nuclear bunker with maids, but they won't actually have a world to return to and nobody managed that well in the lockdown did they, so hopefully that will remain fresh in his mind.

I don't think he will is seriously considering it - personally - it is just a way to intimidate the world into doing what he wants. Looking slightly deranged is helpful in this instance, so maybe he is doing it deliberately. He didn't beat all the other seriously insidious characters in the Kremlin to become top dog by being 'kind'

It's unbelievable that he has young children yet what the young children is Ukraine are going through

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 27/02/2022 18:33

Sorry for horrendous typos, bloody phone

Darbs76 · 27/02/2022 18:33

Must admit I’m feeling very uneasy, obviously I’m delighted Ukraine are pushing back but I keep thinking Putin will be getting angrier and angrier and we are all at risk

We've done it before. Dunkirk - civilians in rowing boats set out to risk their lives to bring our stranded soldiers back in very dangerous circumstances.

Both WW1 and WW2, British men fought in horrendous conditions in trenches, women drove ambulances across battlefields and toiled for hours working in ammunition factories and on the land. So fierce was our fighting spirit that Hitler didn't dare invade when he had the chance. Our supply of weapons was so low at one point, my grandfather was patrolling the coastline with a wooden gun over his shoulder to make it look like he was armed. He wasn't the only one. And he always claimed that if he had seen Nazis landing, he would have used this wooden gun to batter them with. Because letting them invade wasn't an option. That was the mentality of most British at the time, fight until your last breath.[/quote]
This generation is nothing like theirs, it wouldn't be the same.

misssunshine4040 · 27/02/2022 18:35

@hilbil21

I'm really trying not to be scared but I live a few miles from Faslane naval base. Would there be any point in me travelling to stay with family in England or if he uses nuclear weapons is that basically the end for all of us? (Sorry to be so downbeat)
Are you for real?
oakleaffy · 27/02/2022 18:36

@JuergenSchwarzwald

He's just trying to scare people into backing down on sanctions.
I hope this is the case.

Putin is surely losing his mind.

Family Annihilators (mostly men) do this all the time. Usually because their pride has taken a big hit in some way.
justasking111 · 27/02/2022 18:36

The world has had two years of lockdown, shortages our mindset has altered many have died or been very ill. We've toughened up quite a bit. If Putin had done this pre covid our governments might have been flabby but two years of attrition have honed their skills

I wasn't, we were all told this style of war fare was redundant by people who wanted to cut defence spending.

The fundamentals of invasion and holding territory are the same today as they always were.

Where i am surprised and was totally wrong is i never thought Putin was mad, i didn't even thought he'd invade, i mean why? 150k men aren't anywhere near enough to take a country of 44m and against a well armed western equipped military.

The only way out of this appears to be he is removed by the Generals beneath him, i doubt any of them want to die in a nuclear fire storm.

God alone knows what will happen if Putin starts using battlefield nuclear weapons, as we cannot standby and allow that.
