When would you tell them to stop?

It's just fresh apple, cut into pieces. They are a big fruit lover.

8 apples is ridiculous for anyone, never mind a 3 year old. Apples aren't filling either - I find that I'm starving half an hour after eating one unless I have it with peanut butter. Nobody needs 8 apples when they could have a much more balanced, filling snack.

bellac11 · 22/02/2022 16:19

I find apples make me ravenous too, Im guessing its the high sugar, like drinking a can of coke or something

Benjispruce5 · 22/02/2022 16:20

They wouldn’t get past the first apple. I would suggest a different fruit. Eating a range is important and 8 is just greedy.

Benjispruce5 · 22/02/2022 16:21

I woulda think there was something wrong with my child tbh. Probably warrants a go check up. Are there SN?

LuckyAmy1986 · 22/02/2022 16:22

@Wannakisstheteacher I missed that Blush oh dear…

DomesticatedZombie · 22/02/2022 16:22

I ate 7 granny smiths one day when I was about 10. Nothing happened, I was fine. I just really liked granny smiths.

BobbingWilson · 22/02/2022 16:22

I would check for diabetes.

caranations · 22/02/2022 16:22

I hope they aren't eating the pips.

BirdOnTheWire · 22/02/2022 16:23

Given lots of peers won’t touch anything green I think I’m doing well

Ha,ha,ha,ha.
Come back when he is 6

SecretKeeper1 · 22/02/2022 16:24

My daughter was an apple addict at that age, until she got a horrible burning rash around her bits, screaming every time she went to the loo. The doctor said it was all the acid in fruit; basically her wee was chemically burning her skin.

So yeah, 8 a day won’t be doing her urine any good at all, you’ll have to curb it.

Beautiful3 · 22/02/2022 16:25

Why are they eating that many? I'd stop at 3. Sounds like boredom? It's not good to keep grazing on snacks.

Brainwave89 · 22/02/2022 16:26

Yes, but gently. Kids do tend to binge on certain foods, and they might think in eating apples they are being super healthy.

Benjispruce5 · 22/02/2022 16:26

What was the point of your thread op if you think it’s absolutely fine? Healthy eating is about portion control as well as food choices. Learning that family food needs to be shared fairly is also an important educational opportunity.

AmyDudley · 22/02/2022 16:27

How do you know what your child's friends eat unless you are with them all day ? Their parents probably don't know yours eats 8 apples a day ........oh wait, they probably do know.

blueplantpop · 22/02/2022 16:27

I love apples and have quite a few a day but not sure I could even do 8, May give them tummy ache

bellac11 · 22/02/2022 16:27

Hes a 3 year old, he shouldnt have an concept of what adults consider 'super healthy'.
UsernameIsNotAvailableRightNow · 22/02/2022 16:28

Stop chopping up apples for them. Probably wouldn't eat that many if it was actively biting into apples and eating them rather than ready chopped up chunks they can chuck into their mouth.

Recycledblonde · 22/02/2022 16:28

My DS used to eat that many apples in a day, like you I used to be pleased, at least it wasn't sweets or crisps I used to think. Then he went to the dentist, all the acid was eroding the enamel on his teeth and he had to have loads of fillings. The dentist said it was purely down to the quantity of apples and the fact that he ate them constantly throughout the day. His teeth cleaning etc was fine, it was just teeth being constantly bathed in acid wrecked them.

Heytheredemons · 22/02/2022 16:29

Forgetting about the fact their teeth would have rotted by the time they are 4, I would not like to be changing their nappy and if they are toilet trained and out of nappies I wouldn't like to be cleaning your soft furnishings, wowzers!!!

Chestofdraws · 22/02/2022 16:30

You can’t feed a three year old eight apples in one day. That’s really not good for them. The max should be one to two.

This isn’t ok. At all.

BrendaBlessed · 22/02/2022 16:30

I would also be concerned about diabetes. I have type 1 diabetes and clearly remember bingeing on fruit like this before I was diagnosed. I was actually quite dangerously ill at the time.

Chestofdraws · 22/02/2022 16:32

I’m quite shocked any parent would allow this.

Lovemusic33 · 22/02/2022 16:32

My dd would eat loads if I let her, she’s allowed one…two at a push. She often eats a pack of mini cucumbers or a whole large cucumber in a day but that doesn’t bother me as they are not full of sugar and carbs.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 22/02/2022 16:34

This is absolutely nothing to be proud of.

Moderation is key and that is too much for an adult in one day- and it is madness for a small child

oakleaffy · 22/02/2022 16:34

@Siepie

I often ate a pack of 6 (small) apples a day as a teenager, spread throughout the day. It never did me any harm, but then I was a 5'6 teenager not a small child.

If a child ate 8 apples in a row I'd probably be wondering why. Are they grazing from boredom, or actually hungry/thirsty that could be better dealt with by something more filling or a glass of water.

This ..

8 apples sounds excessive.
