When would you tell them to stop?

It's just fresh apple, cut into pieces. They are a big fruit lover.

Guessing it's a small apple?

MrsMiddleMother · 22/02/2022 14:13

I would have stopped them after their 2nd, 3rd at a maximum

Totalwasteofpaper · 22/02/2022 14:13

For every action their is a gut based reaction.

8?!?! I think I would have said something at 3 and def at 4.

hibbledibble · 22/02/2022 14:16

Child is 3 and they are normal sized apples. Other fruit and veg eaten, plus breakfast and lunch (healthy offerings of course). Normal bodyweight.

I used to eat that many regularly as a kid.
No sen(?), no stomach problems, i just really liked apples, and we had an orchard so no one was keeping track of how many i ate.
Still do like them, but now i have a stronger grasp of the concept of a balanced diet.

Didiplanthis · 22/02/2022 14:20

My DS does that .. he has ASD and its sensory. I usually draw the line at about 4 but he does sometimes bypass the request...I no long buy satsumas in bulk after he ate about 20 (2x nets) and went orange..

loveliesbleeding1 · 22/02/2022 14:21

I would not have allowed 8 apples to be eaten to be honest! Upset stomach waiting to happen.

Cassop · 22/02/2022 14:22

That's an excessive amount of fruit eaten so far today for a 3 year old, with more fruit on top of the apples.
I'd be looking at the meals they are eating and if they're getting enough protein or carbs etc and looking at more filling snacks.

whateveryouwantmetosay · 22/02/2022 14:24

I would think "growth spurt" and offer other foods (protein) as clearly they need to eat a lot today!

TwilightSkies · 22/02/2022 14:27

Is the child bored?

dementedpixie · 22/02/2022 14:28

I'd have stopped them after 2 probably. Maybe offer something more calorific and satieting

dementedpixie · 22/02/2022 14:30

It can be harsh on the front teeth to do all that biting through acidic fruit too. Either bored or hungry and apples aren't filling enough

yikesanotherbooboo · 22/02/2022 14:30

I would have stopped at two.

Ramalamadingdongs · 22/02/2022 14:32

It's not normal to eat that many. Id let them have two as a maximum.

User76745333 · 22/02/2022 14:32

That’s crazy for a three year old. Why have you allowed it?!

deadlanguage · 22/02/2022 14:33

How is a 3 yo hungry enough to have eaten that many apples on top of meals? That volume of food must surely have filled their stomach to bursting!

holibobs12 · 22/02/2022 14:33

@Rrrob

Yes about 6 apples ago.

This😂

If they love fruit I'd get more variety so it's not just apples, plus other things they need to survive. It's great they like apples but not for every meal

Monopolyiscrap · 22/02/2022 14:33

I have always been a bit like this. Eat loads of one food item then get bored of it, and go on to something else.

rainrainraincamedowndowndown · 22/02/2022 14:33

Even though apple is healthy food to eat, eating 8 apples is way too excessive and unhealthy imo.
As a parent, you need to teach the children to eat balanced diet.

My sister developed anaphylaxis because of over eating certain fruit. It can be dangerous too. ( although she was already prone to allergy, so it may not be the case for others.)

FelicityBob · 22/02/2022 14:35

I wouldn’t allow a 3 year old more than one

hibbledibble · 22/02/2022 14:37

Lol, they are a hungry child, and very active.

I have put a stop to apples for today.

Upset tummies aren't an issue: lots of fruit and veg regularly consumed here. Given lots of peers won't touch anything green I think I'm doing well.

Why are they eating 8 of anything in a day??

Gabbiadini · 22/02/2022 14:42

“Given lots of peers won’t touch anything green I think I’m doing well”.

You do know it’s not really all down to you?

I have one child who did used to try to eat 5/6 apples a day. Now it’s a maximum of 3.

I also have one child who eats an apple once a week or sometimes twice a week.

I also have a child who eats literally zero fruit in any form.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 22/02/2022 14:43

Of course not. In the same way I would stand by and watch them eat 8 portions of pasta, 8 packets of crisps or 8 boiled eggs. No one needs 8 portions of the same food, regardless of what that food is.
If a child has had breakfast, lunch and is receiving adequate attention, activity then one snack should surely suffice.
I’d be asking why they are doing this, and the answer won’t be hunger.

Cassop · 22/02/2022 14:44

There's a middle ground which is far healthier, not eating greens isn't healthy, eating an excessive amount of fruit at 3 isn't healthy either. Moderation is key.
