When would you tell them to stop?

It's just fresh apple, cut into pieces. They are a big fruit lover.

OP posts:
SilverDoe · 22/02/2022 15:46

They're alright thanks!

TheSnowyOwl · 22/02/2022 15:49

Upset tummies aren't an issue: lots of fruit and veg regularly consumed here. Given lots of peers won't touch anything green I think I'm doing well.

How can you really think you are doing well with a child who is eating that much of one particular item of food? It’s also normal for children to eat fruit and veg. Some might be picky but the vast majority eat enough of it, especially sweet fruit.

pradavilla · 22/02/2022 15:50

I'd have stopped them after 2. It's excessive and I'd be worried they might end up with a sore tummy.

SilverDoe · 22/02/2022 15:51

"You would probably need around 400 bananas a day to build up the kind of potassium levels that would cause your heart to stop beating... Bananas are not dangerous - and in fact they are, and always have been, very good for you."

Just to allay anyone's banana consumption related fears Grin

Classica · 22/02/2022 15:53

Is this a humble brag?

Because 8 apples a day sounds excessive for an adult never mind a 3 year old. Eating that much, on top of other meals and snacks however healthy, just seems way too much for a little kid.

Classica · 22/02/2022 15:54

Maybe they're just hungry. Peanut butter on toast might be more satiating.

Staryflight445 · 22/02/2022 15:57

@SilverDoe 2 is enough to stabilise high blood pressure in an adult.

Staryflight445 · 22/02/2022 15:58

Imagine how judgey they’d be about someone giving their kid 8 chocolate bars.
@TheSnowyOwl

The misinformation about healthy diets etc lately on here has been eye opening.
Anything gos as long as it’s ‘healthy’ apparently.

Indoctro · 22/02/2022 16:00

Yes my son would of done that at 3 and still would

Turns out he has adhd and it's a impulsive thing

I'd be keeping a eye out as the child develops and assume some kind of SEN

JustSmallFry · 22/02/2022 16:02

The 5 a day includes a maximum of 2 pieces of fruit. 8 is waaaaaay too much sugar

HotWaterAndLemon · 22/02/2022 16:03

At age 3?! No way would I allow or encourage this.
As someone mentioned upthread a healthy diet is about balance and moderation. If they were hungry enough to want all that fruit I’d be increasing the size of their meals and adding more complex carbs.

LightfoldEngines · 22/02/2022 16:03

OP thought it was a brag and that we’d be impressed, and is now being a mardy bum because it hasn’t.

150g a day of sugar - that’s not even counting the other fruit the child has apparently had.

But by all means OP, crack on thinking this is healthy and won’t do any short or long term damage.

BobbingWilson · 22/02/2022 16:06

Can you not say no to your child?

Crunchymum · 22/02/2022 16:06

Why have you let your 3 year old child eat 8 apples?

It's just not very good parenting is it????

or it's untrue

GreenFingeredNell15 · 22/02/2022 16:07

I dont think anyone is offended, OP. Its just an obvious boastful post which hasn't gone as you expected 🙂

thedefinitionofmadness · 22/02/2022 16:09

oh yes because an apple is nutritionally the same as a kinder bar
(massive eye roll)

I'd say 8 pieces of fruit is quite a lot, but a balanced diet is obtained over weeks/months/ongoing not a single days intake.

Everydaydayisaschoolday · 22/02/2022 16:10

I would assume that they were very, very hungry indeed and increasing the portions I was offering at mealtimes to include a lot more protein and healthy, starchy carbs.

It's irresponsible to allow a child to eat such a lot of a high sugar, acidic fruit. As other people have said a good diet is all about balance and this is not balanced at all.

Wannakisstheteacher · 22/02/2022 16:12

Umm 6 apples ago I would have stopped them. Like any vaguely responsible parent Hmm

stopthepain · 22/02/2022 16:12

Does he have a balanced diet or is it so skewed that he eats too much fibre? I have stomach ache if I eat more than 2 apples.

Squishmael · 22/02/2022 16:12

Blimey. 1 or 2 but not 8!!🤣

LuckyAmy1986 · 22/02/2022 16:15

I doubt the OP was boasting!! It’s not a very sensible thing to do

LuckyAmy1986 · 22/02/2022 16:16

But as @Indoctro said possible SEN OP? Wanting to eat 8 of the same thing over and over could well be an impulse thing as said

LightfoldEngines · 22/02/2022 16:17

@LuckyAmy1986

I doubt the OP was boasting!! It’s not a very sensible thing to do
Going by her second post, she was!
Wannakisstheteacher · 22/02/2022 16:17

OP very clearly was boasting! Did you not read the “their friends don’t eat anything green so I think I’m doing pretty well” comment?

Bromse · 22/02/2022 16:17

Yes, stop them at seven.
