So we've got Dudley today and tomorrow and Eunice on Friday so thought I'd start a thread. Dudley has barely hit here in Edinburgh and already there's a flight from LHR struggling to land.

I'm super interested but no clue how you're all following this! i just downloaded flight radar 24- is that correct?

comfortablyfrumpy · 16/02/2022 21:47

I think Geeneca- Manc is heading for Gatwi k after all .
Possibly the Southampton one too.

I think I would be crying by now if I was on that one. And I have had some pretty hairy flying experiences...

notimagain · 16/02/2022 21:47

@ajandjjmum

I was wondering what the Easyjet plane was doing! A Tui flight has just landed in Birmingham so assumed they'd go there, but I suppose it's not one of their hubs?
Pretty much...the idea used to be that in a situation like this if you had the fuel, time and the weather was OK where you wanted to go you went somewhere which had your own staff to handle aircraft, passengers etc - because they'll need either accommodation and/or onwards transport somewhere and almost certainly ditto for the crew who may well go out of hours.

One of the things that will almost certainly have been happening during some of the holding before diversion that we have seen is that the captain will have been discussing options with the company operations people via radio, satphone or some other means.

Interested in this thread?

That's what I am using -, I think that's the one.

I guess they have to think about replacement bus services, hotels etc. I am so glad organising that kind of stuff is not my job.

@GracieLouFreeebush

Just imagine, your knackered, can’t wait to get in your own bed. Nearly land a couple of times so you are shitting yourself by this point. Finally land…. But you are 200 miles away from where you expected to be and you’ve to get a coach back for your car. Then you’ve got a 80mile drive back home. The kids are starving, you are down to your last couple of nappies.
And it’s made worse if the diverted airport is closer to home than your original destination but you still have to get the coach there to pick up your car.

Puts you off travelling for ages.

The absolute worst nightmare. Except crashing out the sky.

Where is the Belfast - Southampton flight off to?!

CaveMum · 16/02/2022 21:50

DH once flew back from The Falklands (RAF flight) just before Christmas (Due to land at Brize Norton in Oxfordshire but the country was blanketed in thick fog from about Birmingham southwards. Ended up diverted to Glasgow where they were told a coach would be laid on to take them back south. We live in East Anglia so he and 3 others decided not to endure what would have been a 12hr coach trip and hired a car to drive themselves back! I picked him up from a service station on the A1 and brought him home.

I just came accros this thread and I was on this flight today (Ba 1448 if that’s the one you were looking at). We nearly touched down, literally feet away from the ground and it just took off again. It felt like the wing was going to hit on one side as we came into land the first time. Several passengers puking due to turbulence - never seen so much air sickness before.
alltheseasons · 16/02/2022 21:51

When you see it moving side to side is that literally the plane being tossed about?

BruceFoxton · 16/02/2022 21:52

Gatwick?

inigomontoyahwillcox · 16/02/2022 21:52

The Rennes to Manchester just aborted.

ShavingTheBadger · 16/02/2022 21:52

Years ago we were diverted to Leeds Bradford of all places when we were supposed to land at Manchester. Had to get a coach to Manchester, that actually drove past our front door (north Mcr). Driver wouldn’t let us off so we had to go all the way to Ringway and then get a taxi back.

Pinotpleasure · 16/02/2022 21:53

Geneva - Manchester coming in to land at London Gatwick

Sexnotgender · 16/02/2022 21:53

@jerometheturnipking

Nice!

In Windy we trust Wink

Love Windy😂

Lots of dumfukery today.

TheDogsMother · 16/02/2022 21:53

Just joined you all. I'm very pleased I'm not on that Belfast to Southampton flight. It's going to Gatwick maybe ?

GracieLouFreeebush · 16/02/2022 21:54

Copenhagen landed at Gatwick easy, I hope Geneva does too on the first attempt

CaveMum · 16/02/2022 21:54

What on earth is BOD - MAN doing?!

Carpediem15 · 16/02/2022 21:54

@GracieLouFreeebush

If I was on that Belfast flight I would be crying my eyes out. It looks like such a small plane too. The poor pilot.
Me too, I hate what I call small planes like Easyjet, Ryanair etc, A380 I am ok with but I would be sobbing my heart out on these planes, I would be the one they had to come and slap across the face to calm down.
QueenOfThorns · 16/02/2022 21:54

Now, where is Bordeaux-Manchester off to?

Leftbutcameback · 16/02/2022 21:55

Looks like Big Jet TV will be doing a broadcast from Heathrow on Friday. I remember watching one of those a couple of years ago during a big storm!

FairyLightQueen · 16/02/2022 21:56

Copenhagen about to try and land at Manchester now... let's see how this goes!

Scautish · 16/02/2022 21:57

The relief of landing - wherever it is - must be huge.

The frustration of being hundreds of miles from intended destination will kick in shortly after.

Those poor people in the tiny plane going to Southampton
