So we've got Dudley today and tomorrow and Eunice on Friday so thought I'd start a thread. Dudley has barely hit here in Edinburgh and already there's a flight from LHR struggling to land.

@Pennox

why do some abort early (wind shear?) and some have a go?

This is fascinating btw pilots of MN!

Looks like pure luck. The hot on big jet said there was a lull just as that Budapest flight came in and it got down on its 3rd attempt. The couple before him had no chance

Wonder if the pilots love the challenge of these conditions, or do they think ‘oh shit’ like the rest of us? 😆

TheDogsMother · 18/02/2022 11:02

Anyone watching those live landings at Heathrow (YouTube). They are terrifying

Ah thanks, was trying to find it in the airport!

Family member is supposed to be flying out for the trip of a lifetime at 12. Looks like take offs are going slightly better?

FuglyHouse · 18/02/2022 11:02

@Ocsetldil

Can we all have a communal cheer and clap when a plane does actually manage to land?
I applauded the Budapest flight that just landed on third attempt!
bunnypenny · 18/02/2022 11:02

😱 my husband’s a pilot and is landing in LGW in about an hour. This is making me v uneasy!!

feb21 · 18/02/2022 11:02

@Maerchentante

Next one's from Nassau, just flown overhead
That's aborted, am I right?
Maerchentante · 18/02/2022 11:02

Seems to be climbing again

liveforsummer · 18/02/2022 11:03

Arrivals board at Bristol showing the Paris flights expected at 11.14 now, goalposts keep moving

OP posts:
Appalonia · 18/02/2022 11:04

I'd hate to be a passenger on one of those flights, must be terrifying!

mrsoverall2 · 18/02/2022 11:04

My friend is coming in this evening from Paris to Manchester. I'm scared for her. What do we think that'll be like?

LittleSnakes · 18/02/2022 11:04

Maybe they’re expecting a lull in wind at 11:14.

EduCated · 18/02/2022 11:05

Come on Lisbon!

Maerchentante · 18/02/2022 11:05

Lisbon seems a tad high for landing

RoseAndRose · 18/02/2022 11:05

@LittleSnakes

Maybe they’re expecting a lull in wind at 11:14.
That's very precise!!
Maerchentante · 18/02/2022 11:06

Beirut aborted very early as in over Richmond

EduCated · 18/02/2022 11:06

So close! Those poor people.

Pennox · 18/02/2022 11:06

Lisbon gone!

FairyLightQueen · 18/02/2022 11:06

Ooof that Lisbon plane into London only just missed.

Mindgone · 18/02/2022 11:07

Thanks very much 😊

Namechangeagain84 · 18/02/2022 11:07

These live landings are brill!

PurpleHollyhocks · 18/02/2022 11:07

There is really no need to be scared. It will be unpleasant for passengers but safety measures are such there is little risk.

boilingstormyseas · 18/02/2022 11:07

With all these flights not being able to land, at which stage does Heathrow say this is enough, the winds are too strong and close?

CaveMum · 18/02/2022 11:07

Lisbon looks like he's heading elsewhere.

Ocsetldil · 18/02/2022 11:07

That was the third attempt, wasn’t it?
