So we've got Dudley today and tomorrow and Eunice on Friday so thought I'd start a thread. Dudley has barely hit here in Edinburgh and already there's a flight from LHR struggling to land.

@Whatadayyyy

Just looking at the most watched flights, what is the First one does anyone know? Watching it on the map it looks like it keeps going backwards and the route is all over the place?
Got to be some sort of military recon given it's going round the border of Ukraine.
indiesearcher · 17/02/2022 21:13

@paradyning try updating the app if you're using your phone. I just did and now I see a small grey line under the main bar at the top, just pull it down.

notimagain · 17/02/2022 21:16

@Magicmum101

Thanks for the update *@notimagain* my Venice flight is confidently sayings it’s leaving on time tomorrow morning but I can’t imagine it will.
Ah well, hope it all works out..good luck.

I'm back in the UK after landing at Heathrow. To say it was a bumpy ride was an understatement. It was good having the tailwind behind us but crossing it, my God. Never heard the pilot telling cabin crew to take their seats mid flight before. And that was today, I dread to think what tomorrow will be like.

paradyning · 17/02/2022 21:23

Is that FORTE12 around the Ukraine? That's a drone out of Sicily.

I must be very stupid. Still can't see how to do it but thanks for info

Help an enthusiastic dunce out please - XCCRM, what/who is that? Can see my whole evening disappearing watching this. Also the 5 most watched (which I had no idea about until tonight) - where did the Dallas to St Augustine flight go and why are the most watched flights the Kyiv arrivals, is there some concern about safety, missiles or something? Sorry for the possibly stupid questions.

I think the Dallas flight landed at a different airport.
User82517 · 17/02/2022 21:38

Ah ok, saw an earlier post about it having a problem so that would make sense - thankyou Smile

I was wondering the same about the Kyiv arrivals - can only assume it's because of current state of affairs
TomAllenWife · 17/02/2022 21:49

Thanks @notimagain I'll have a look, only small airport

BabbleBee · 17/02/2022 22:02

@MayBeeMee

What map/site are you looking at to see that BabbleBee?
@MayBeeMee Military Freedar
paradyning · 17/02/2022 22:14

XCCRM is a drone. It was FORTE 12 or 11. Keeps changing call sign

I wasn't on the thread last night but was glued to FR24 - really felt for those poor passengers & crews!

Chillyjam · 17/02/2022 22:20

Is anyone watching the air ambulances, one over Norwich and one around Swindon

wonderstuff · 17/02/2022 22:26

Are some military craft not tracked? Heard a chinook go over earlier but couldn’t see it on the app.

There are some you can't find on fr24 and some craft aren't trackable below a certain altitude. The military site shows some that flight radar don't I think

Some aren’t..

Also anything flying at very at low level may not be visible to the ground based receivers that provide a big chunk of the flight radar data.

wonderstuff · 17/02/2022 22:32

Thanks, that makes sense, we’re in a low fly zone I think. Rural enough that if they crash they won’t take too many of us out.

Fascinating stuff, love the geeky corners of mumsnet.

They fly over us a lot (often many times a day) and never appear on Flightradar24

KateTheEighth · 17/02/2022 22:36

Mind you when they fly over us they're so low they make the house shake!

wonderstuff · 17/02/2022 22:39

@KateTheEighth I wonder if you live near me? Often fly over low enough to rattle the windows, we’re not too far from RAF Odiham

Sunwillcomeout · 17/02/2022 22:40

This all sounds interesting and I kinda want o join in, but when I look at the website there are literally thousands of little yellow planes everywhere, moving about a millimetre ever few seconds.
How are you managing to watch planes land and stuff??

I'm about an hour south west of you!
