So we've got Dudley today and tomorrow and Eunice on Friday so thought I'd start a thread. Dudley has barely hit here in Edinburgh and already there's a flight from LHR struggling to land.

@Magicmum101

This has opened a door to a whole new world for me! I'm meant to be flying from Gatwick to Venice at 9.30am tomorrow. What are the chances of the flight being canceled do we think? And if so, when do airlines start announcing cancellations?
Umm…if forecast holds that’s when the high winds are peaking and they are still out of the southwest, so a fair crosswind…fingers crossed I think.

I suspect some airlines may start announcing some cancellations tonight, others may wait until the AM just in case the forecast turns out to be overly pessimistic.

Good luck.

@TomAllenWife

Soooooo who think I'll be flying from Bristol to Tenerife tomorrow at 2pm
Weeelllllll…..Confused

I’ve just looked at the Bristol airport forecast and it’s probably one of the longest most complicated aviation forecasts I’ve ever seen..which is not a good sign..sorry….

The good news is early PM the wind is almost along the runway, the bad news is it could be up at 70 knots (80 mph) in the hour or two before your flight is scheduled to depart .TBH unless the forecast is wildly incorrect I’d be expecting disruption…..Sad just hope it’s not too much.

Bristol? Ummm... not sure of the time but this is the warming map for tomorrow.

The flights to Barra and other Scottish islands look like they might be the safest bets!

Warning not warming.Hmm

I rather like the orderly queue into Heathrow. They do land every 90 seconds (used to live nearby - speech patterns reflected the pauses needed when a plane went overhead)

poppym12 · 17/02/2022 18:28

Feeling very glad that I flew out of Bristol today before the gales pick up again.

TomAllenWife · 17/02/2022 18:28

Thank you 🙈 considering getting to Bristol tonight instead what do you think?

Magicmum101 · 17/02/2022 18:37

Thanks for the insights. Talk about taking the joy out of a much needed weekend away.

Well the airfield forecast is showing the winds starting to pick up by 0300, and then after 0700 it’s picking up to about 40 mph continuous with gusts up to maybe 60 mph….late morning it gets even more wild Shock with gusts to 80 mph…..

That forecast is bespoke for the airport which is exposed up on a bit of a hill, but even so it doesn’t sound like it is going to be a great morning for being on the roads.

csigeek · 17/02/2022 18:51

A wheelie bin fell over today about 4pm here in Worcestershire 🤪

RestingMurderousFace · 17/02/2022 19:04

An RAF plane has been having a nosy over Ukraine. Heading back now. It's the No.1 watched atm.

RestingMurderousFace · 17/02/2022 19:05

Nope, it's circling back over Ukraine again. No.2 now.

Yikes, how will you cope tomorrow? Wink
Livelifeinthebuslane · 17/02/2022 19:11

I've got loads of work to do tomorrow, but I can see I'll be sitting here with a mix of Big Jet TV, FR24 and Mumsnet, it's been a while since I last watched the airports in a storm!

indiesearcher · 17/02/2022 19:14

I know what I'll be doing this evening!

ifonly4 · 17/02/2022 19:15

Our bin collection is cancelled tomorrow - hardly a surprise.

FleeceNavidadFromTheSheep · 17/02/2022 19:16

I'm hoping my internet doesn't go down although I am working from home so shouldn't be tracking flights all day

Charliesgotachocolatefactory · 17/02/2022 19:17

Here’s one of the Poseidons heading home to Lossiemouth for the night. Stingray😂

This thread has been such good value and I've learnt about a whole new world of which I knew nothing. I wish we could hear from people who were on those flights trying to land and aborting.

Loved the typo a few pages back about 'shark trying to land at MAN' as it reminded me of the B movie Sharknado. Flying sharks, why not? It's mad out there!

Insanelysilver · 17/02/2022 19:30

I’ve just been running round the garden chasing after the big plastic cover which had blown off our outdoor furniture.
I walked my dog earlier before the wind got up and I’m planning to stay indoors eat chocolate and watch Netflix 😂

Jux · 17/02/2022 19:34

We have red weather warnings here in SW. i'm not close enough to the coast to watch the waves, though dh and I had intended to do so today. I suppose we might tomorrow.

We've brought bins bins and plant pots in, well some pots, but mainly we're just crossing our fingers and hoping.

It's been a fine day here, with a bit of wind, but we get worse winds than that ost winters. Expecting much worse now though.

MayBeeMee · 17/02/2022 19:39

So what do we think XCCRM is up to? 16k people watching it, it’s at 51k feet so may be a private jet. It has a very strange speed graph. Any ideas?

I don’t know, but it just changed number to LVS052!

I’ve also spotted two little planes going in circles off the coast near Hull. They look as though they’re looking for something.

MayBeeMee · 17/02/2022 19:45

It’s changed code to LVS052. And looks like it took off from a Bond lair in the sea near Sicily!

BabbleBee · 17/02/2022 19:47

Night time training exercise with the Typhoons I expect.
