So we've got Dudley today and tomorrow and Eunice on Friday so thought I'd start a thread. Dudley has barely hit here in Edinburgh and already there's a flight from LHR struggling to land.

Oo I’ve found my people!

CushionSpiral · 16/02/2022 23:05

Question kind of related. If we get helicopters that don’t appear on FR or military freedar, does that mean they’re royal ones?

TiffanyBucksFizzRainbowBright · 16/02/2022 23:07

@Charliesgotachocolatefactory

Who’s that doing donuts off the nw coast of Ireland? No details on the app and it’s not appearing on military freedar either?
Yes this one?

I think sometimes it's just the altitude. If they are too low they don't always show

Wonder where this guy is going too. It's obviously supposed to be anonymous but not so much when you can track the journey from departure to destination anyway.

The donut one has no call sign, what does that mean?

timetochangeusername · 16/02/2022 23:11

And it's going around again?!!

starfishmummy · 16/02/2022 23:11

Newbie here....there seems to be a glider up, private owner "grief" just between Lutterwotth and Market Harborough (East of Rugby). Surely not????

cheekychaplin · 16/02/2022 23:11

It's not so much that it's supposed to be anonymous but that FR doesn't know the details of the flight.

I found this too! Wondered surely not!
Pinotpleasure · 16/02/2022 23:14

@Charliesgotachocolatefactory - strange!

I wonder if it’s one of those storm tracker planes? I know they have them in the USA but it could be something to do with weather tracking and forecasting?

ErrolTheDragon · 16/02/2022 23:14

@timetochangeusername

It looked like it was going off but then the line went back to the loop. Like it's hard to track. Maybe that's what happens with unidentified planes? It does show country of reg as USA at least.
Pennox · 16/02/2022 23:15

US aircraft carrier?

Looks like I took off in the sea

It's at a flying club. Its ground speed is 0 so I think someone's left the transponder on after they landed.
timetochangeusername · 16/02/2022 23:17

I just had a look over at Ukraine, and was struck how busy Western Europe's airspace is compared to Eastern Europe

KenAdams · 16/02/2022 23:17

I'm away atm, due to land at LHR tomorrow. How bad are the winds? Following planes on FR but I don't know the weather.

That's a very odd one. Doesn't appear to be a small plane and it's at a decent height so not looking for anything. Where has it come from and where is it going?!

starfishmummy · 16/02/2022 23:18

Thanks ThatLibraryMiss it's disappeared now.

timetochangeusername · 16/02/2022 23:18

Wonder where the US airforce that's just crossed Scotland is heading...

I saw that one too.
ShavingTheBadger · 16/02/2022 23:25

Anyone know what this weird thing is on Freedar?!

Flightradar 24 storm watchers
timetochangeusername · 16/02/2022 23:26

It's a military transporter so some form of troop movement

I must sleep, but this app is amazing. So interesting

timetochangeusername · 16/02/2022 23:26

Sorry that was not about the Pp!

KenAdams · 16/02/2022 23:27

The one doing circles might be a P8 surveillance aircraft that monitors submarine activity and the like. If you've been following the Russia Ukraine conflict you'll note the positioning of subsea cables in that area.

Pennox · 16/02/2022 23:28

Donut boy has obviously got word Mn are watching him as he’s veered off now.
