So we've got Dudley today and tomorrow and Eunice on Friday so thought I'd start a thread. Dudley has barely hit here in Edinburgh and already there's a flight from LHR struggling to land.

"Thank u for the explanations , r u a pilot? Hope u don't mind me asking"

Used to be...but not anymore and quite happy to be sat on the ground on a night like this.

BTW thanks all for the Manchester weather reports.

CaveMum · 16/02/2022 22:18

FrangipaniBlue · 16/02/2022 22:18

Sharm doing another loop

I just came accros this thread and I was on this flight today (Ba 1448 if that’s the one you were looking at). We nearly touched down, literally feet away from the ground and it just took off again. It felt like the wing was going to hit on one side as we came into land the first time. Several passengers puking due to turbulence - never seen so much air sickness before

@Chippychipcrisps how scary. Hope you're ok. That was a lot of circling and flew over parts of the city I've not seen used as flight paths before. At one point looked like it was heading off to Aberdeen then turned around suddenly but the approach was so slow. Did you feel like you were staying still in the air at times? As it certainly looked like it on the radar. I really felt for all on the plane and it want even unusual wind levels at the time. Must have been direction and gusts

Shark joining the queue for Man.

Wulfenite · 16/02/2022 22:21

Wow, I think I've just been introduced to an even better (worse?) time sink than watching all the ships on AIS when I lived on the Scottish coast.

Used to live v close to LBA - have seen some terrifying videos of planes trying to land there in crosswinds!

Cheeseandlobster · 16/02/2022 22:21

The poor pax on the Sharm flight. I bet a fair few already have dicky tums and an aborted landing is definitely not going to help

Pinotpleasure · 16/02/2022 22:21

Do pleased to see that the tiny Eastern Airways plane from Belfast to Southampton (which circled for an hour) finally diverted and landed at Gatwick!

spudjulia · 16/02/2022 22:21

Sharm!!!
savemefromtheteens · 16/02/2022 22:22

@notimagain

The Manchester situation is interesting from an aviating POV.

It's certainly very windy but doesn't look like they've got massive crosswinds (it's generally about 20 knots across at worse) so they are either getting turbulence/windshear that is triggering the go-arounds and/or there are nasty shower around causing problems..any thoughts from the locals?

I live about 5 miles from Man under the flight path. It's starting to get calmer, but still some big gusts.
TheDogsMother · 16/02/2022 22:22

Sharm looks a bit hesitant.

liveforsummer · 16/02/2022 22:22

@Chohlin654

Have you ever flown ryanair? They will just slam it down in all weathers. Zero fucks given from ryanair drivers
According to the documentary several years back they only Cary enough fuel for the flight and little more so don't have much option 😆

Newrunner29 · 16/02/2022 22:25

Aircrafts not machines trying to think of right word!

ShavingTheBadger · 16/02/2022 22:26

KLM might be lucky at LBA…

FrangipaniBlue · 16/02/2022 22:26

What on earth is SSH-MAN doing?!

FairyLightQueen · 16/02/2022 22:27

AMS - LBA LANDED!

ajandjjmum · 16/02/2022 22:27

That Amsterdam flight to Leeds dropped out of the sky at the end!

Wincher · 16/02/2022 22:28

The LBA flight has landed first time!

GreenWords · 16/02/2022 22:28

I was going to say it feels a bit better in Leeds now - pleased to see a flight manage to land

torquewench · 16/02/2022 22:28

My last flight on Ryanair was exciting. As soon as we took off the driver was telling us how windy it was at our destination, and mentioned wond a few times in the flight but not to worry as it was blowing straight down the runway. It was bim clenching central for the last 10 mins.

Also, Ryanair just set off from Liverpool for Leeds. That's an interesting new route 🤣
