I wonder how many people are still in touch with people they knew at school. I sometimes look people up to see what they are doing, but i am not in touch with anyone now.

I am still best friends with my school best friend and now are kids are very close. I've recently started to work with another other school friend. I've never left where i went to school and those who did mostly came back so our kids all go to similar schools/social activities.

FadedRed · 06/02/2022 19:46

Yes, 2 from junior school and 2 more from senior. I left school fifty years ago.

mjf981 · 06/02/2022 19:48

Not really. I have them as FB contacts, but have moved countries so never see them, and don’t talk to any of them, aside from the odd fb comment. Most of them live around where I grew up, and it’s unlikely I’ll ever go back there again. Makes me wonder why I keep them as contacts? Nostalgia maybe?

I'm still in touch with my 'best friend' from school. We've known each other since we were 7 and we're in our 40s now. We're not as close as we used to be as our lives are very different but we do make plans to see each other every year and chat by text/Facebook more often.

TheChip · 06/02/2022 19:54

Nope. If I happen to see any of them when out and about, I try to avoid if possible because I just dont know what to do or say.

PurplePizzaCake · 06/02/2022 19:54

Yes, 1 I see almost every week and then a group of about 6 of us who meet up every couple of months or so. We're all pretty close and if we lived closer then I'm sure we'd all be meeting up pretty much weekly. Mid 30s now

CremeEggThief · 06/02/2022 19:58

Yes, several, but mainly on social media. About 10 IRL.

I am mid-forties and moved from my home country 25 years ago.

TheLoupGarou · 06/02/2022 19:59

1 person, very occasionally.
I am still in touch with my uni friends, although I live in a different part of the UK to most of them.

Mufflette · 06/02/2022 20:01

One from school, but my closest friends were always outside school so still about 6 from that period of my life, we just weren't in school together.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 06/02/2022 20:01

Yep. One is a bestie and lives close. Had a brew earlier. Another works locally so I see her. Others we meet up 3 or 4 times a year.

It’s great.

MarshaBradyo · 06/02/2022 20:01

Yes but I’ve been o/s for over twenty years which makes it harder

But when I go back we meet, and it is so good. Really takes me back and we have a good laugh

RedRec · 06/02/2022 20:06

Still best friends with two friends I met at school when we were four. We are 59 now. Live about 200 miles away from them now though.

MissAmbrosia · 06/02/2022 20:25

On FB yes. As I moved abroad haven't seen them in the flesh for a while. 1 from Primary, half a dozen from Secondary, plus my Poly flatmates.

TheCountessOfGrantham · 06/02/2022 20:26

Yes, my best friend has been my best friend since we were seven, so for 31 years.

I'm in touch with a decent handful of my school friends, maybe ten or so?

LlamaLucy · 06/02/2022 20:45

I text one very occasionally. I wouldn’t recognise the rest of them if I tripped over them.

NoraBarlow111 · 06/02/2022 20:51

I'm still in touch with friends from infant school, secondary school and uni. One of my dearest friends from infant school passed away in 2014, I miss her very much she was a wonderful friend who made me laugh so much.

We are all spread around the world these days but keep in touch and catch up when we are in the vicinity.
There's a big group still in my hometown and a tradition of yearly camping get together, and walks on the North downs

Camomila · 06/02/2022 20:51

Yes, I'm still close to my group of girlfriends from secondary school even though we are spread out across the UK (and one in Spain). We chat on WhatsApp most days, I see the more local ones a few times a year, and we probably have a reunion every year or 2.

Looking forward to seeing them in April and meeting the newest baby Smile

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 06/02/2022 20:54

Only one and that's because I work with her, I have another I speak to on social media, but I haven't seen her in person for almost 6 years.

mathanxiety · 06/02/2022 20:57

Yes, we're all over the world but we have a FB group. We sometimes have meetups. We've had a few informally organised reunions too. Left school early 80s. Time flies.

bigTillyMint · 06/02/2022 20:57

Yep, a couple are still v good friends and a few others that I’m still in touch with 40+ years on Grin

DaisyChains3 · 06/02/2022 20:59

I’m quite jealous, I must say. I have lost touch with all of them.

Closedlips · 06/02/2022 21:05

I'm not in touch with any from school or university (other than through obligatory Facebook likes of course) but I'm not particularly sociable so it's hardly surprising. We did try a few times but none of us were bothered enough to keep in regular contact. I actually live very close to my old school and do see people from my school out and about most weeks though which is probably s bit strange.

A580Hojas · 06/02/2022 21:12

I'm nearly 60 and still count two friends from school as really close friends, others I see occasionally.

I have still have several friends from University too, as does my DH from his University. It's lovely to have known people for 30, 40 or more years.

bindud · 06/02/2022 21:14

Yes they are my closest friends along with some from uni. Same for DH. I assumed that was the norm

Sn0tnose · 06/02/2022 21:16

My best friend is someone I met on our first day of Secondary school. I’m also good friends with someone I first met in Junior school.

DH has a group of five best friends. They met at nursery, they went through school together and are still close now they’re in their 40s.
