Yay

73kittycat73 · 07/02/2022 12:24

Hi BorderlineHappy . Smile How are you doing today? I weighed in today. I put back on the 2lbs I lost. So in all I've lost 0.2lbs, Lol! Ok, so starting from today I am 14st 2.4lbs. I think I went wrong too after seeing the photos. You can't shame yourself slim. That's why I thought I'd try and focus on eating at least two portions of fruit a day. Something positive. I've also done my morning stretch routine:
Hope you have a good day, do you have a 'danger' time? Mine is at night.

OP posts:
BorderlineHappy · 07/02/2022 16:05

Yes my danger time is nighttime.
Sitting here twiddling my thumb and I go on the mooch
Do you think going to bed at 6 is too early🤣

Lol. Grin Watching TV at night too is a trigger for me. I don't know why. Confused I can get through the day easy, but night times...I have to go to bed early tonight anyway, have to get up earlier. I had a phone call today, Dr wanted nurse to come out and do all my diabetes checks! Shock I've only had them done once before. Don't know what prompted that. ??? Had to dig my BS meter out, I forgot where I put it! lol Thought I'd better have it handy for tomorrow.

OP posts:
BorderlineHappy · 07/02/2022 19:56

I did my 12 to 8 today.
Had my breakfast at 1,dinner at 5 and just had a snack now.
I actually feel full.
@73kittycat73 hope it goes well for you tomorrow.

73kittycat73 · 08/02/2022 19:52

Is that intermittent fasting you're doing? Sounds like you've had a good day food wise. Smile
The nurse came and was really nice. I have my blood test in a couple of weeks (She couldn't do it today for some reason, I forget why!) but she checked my blood pressure sitting and standing, and did that ultrasound thing on my feet to check the blood flow. The only bad thing was during the pokie bit. The bit where the get you to close your eyes and they poke your feet and you have to tell them if you can feel it or not. Last time it was my big toe on the right not responding, sadly today too it was my left big toe. I can feel my toes in my slippers though! I don't know why I can feel them but not a pin prick. Confused Anyway, I asked about carbs and she has given me a diabetes magazine with a bit about carbs in it to read.
Also glad to know the leg cramps (I get them every once in a while at night.) is nothing to do with the diabetes, probably low in potassium or B vitamins she said. All in all was a good visit.
How has your day, bar food, been?
Just tagging in @PaperMonster in case she's lost us. I hope you are feeling a lot better?
and @WreckTangled, how's your diet going?

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 08/02/2022 19:56

Not great Blush I'm just so busy and tired I keep reaching for crap. My meals are good but I keep snacking.

I can't feel the spiky thing until halfway up my calves really but I have a neuromuscular condition that causes that. I don't allow the nurses to do it as they get really confused Grin I also need a bp check or I'm going to get my wrist slapped.

73kittycat73 · 09/02/2022 10:57

Aww, sorry to hear you are so busy and tired. Sad Is it your course work and everything else?
The two times I've had the pokie thing they've only done my feet.
I suppose you have to find time in a already busy schedule for your BP check?
I hope you manage to get some down time soon. How is the studying going?
You OK today BorderlineHappy? I got up in the night (Couldn't sleep) and had an easy peeler. Grin Also had a couple of licks of honey that's only supposed to be for hypos/emergencies. Grin

I'm fine today@73kittycat73 thanks.
My son has COVID.
My other son tested negative, they work together.
So he's isolating for 10 days with his gf and 2 kids.

@WreckTangled ah I'm sorry you feel awful.
This weather doesn't help.
Hard to eat salad when it's minus ( or feels like it outside).

Yes I enjoy IM but I can't do it all the time.
Might try and do it twice a week and ease back in to it

WreckTangled · 09/02/2022 17:55

I think I'm just really busy with everything, no one thing is too much on its own. I have some annual leave over half term though so that'll be nice. Luckily my bp has always been great so I'm not that worried.

PaperMonster · 09/02/2022 18:02

Hello all! Thanks for tagging me. Had a crazy busy week after not feeling so good at weekend. Didn’t sleep last night very well so shattered today - which is my quiet day. Just done much needed housework! Two more crazy busy days coming up! Going to have a hot bath and an early night tonight xxx

73kittycat73 · 09/02/2022 20:06

Sorry to hear about your son BorderlineHappy. I hope he feels OK? Good luck with the IF then. It's day three today for me of the new way of eating. Apparently if you are going to give up/crack, it happens on the third day. Not cracked yet! Grin How has your day been food wise?
Ah, death by a thousand cuts ah WreckTangled. Do you know when half term is? My mum said her local shopping precinct was very busy today, I thought maybe people stocking up for half term? Although I don't know when it is yet! lol
Good that your BP is usually great. The nurse thought I had 'White coat syndrome' when I had mine done. I keep getting a high reading. It happened when I was in hospital, and last year when the nurse was specifically taking my BP. She came back three times and it finally dropped on the third go! I don't feel nervous so I don't know why it happens. Confused
Hi PaperMonster. Smile How are you feeling now? Sorry you didn't sleep. Things are always harder when your tired aren't they? Hope you felt better after the housework was done. I get like that with showers. Hate going in them, feel loads better being squeaky clean after coming out. Grin
Hope you busy days don't wipe you out to much. I hope you manage to get some sleep tonight, and good luck with your busy days.

PaperMonster · 11/02/2022 19:53

Hello all, hope all’s well with everyone. Absolutely shattered here still. But hurrah for half term!!

WreckTangled · 12/02/2022 06:54

We've got another week until half term!

73kittycat73 · 12/02/2022 11:17

Hi. Smile Hope you get some rest soon PaperMonster. Do you have any weekend plans? Or just resting?
I bet you are looking forward to that WreckTangled! Smile
Fell off the wagon a bit last night. Wasn't too bad as didn't have much in. I had a easy peeler, strawberries and Alpro yogurt, some honey, and a sandwich with the last of the clementine curd. Not bad compared to before. On wards and inwards! Grin

Can I ask you fellow diabetes suffers something? Do you feel like it's inevitable that you'll end up with heart problems?
I was watching a piece on the BBC News channel earlier about how the NHS is launching a new campaign to spot the signs of a heart attack earlier. I felt a pang, or...Inevitability? I felt like heart disease was on the cards in the end...Sad How do you cope with knowing that we are more likely to suffer heart problems? What do you do about it?
Thanks for any insights. Flowers

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 12/02/2022 19:14

I don't feel like that. I think my grandad has a heart condition on my dads side but that's it. I wonder if there's a difference between type one and type two with regards to heart conditions? My cholesterol is ok and I exercise.

PaperMonster · 13/02/2022 08:07

No, I’ve never worried about having heart problems tbh. My mum is Diabetic and on a whole raft of meds for it - one of which has affected her kidney function but her heart’s ok. I eat mostly ok and I’m fit and active so fingers crossed I’ll be fine.

Really nasty weather here this weekend. Been and had nails and eyelashes sorted yesterday. Today we’re off out for lunch and I’m going to meet an old school friend who is holidaying where we live!

Thanks for all of your posts, I've just read through the lasts two threads Shock Grin. As to your question about heart disease, I feel very fearful of the future. I'm T2 but only in my 40s and feel I've been given an early death sentence. It's made me bury my head in the sand a bit and not face up to what's happening. But I need to change that now. More than anything I worry about going blind. I want to hear stories about people who have had T2 for decades and are still perfectly fine Smile

73kittycat73 · 13/02/2022 16:17

Hi NintendoStress, welcome aboard. Smile I'm sorry you worry about future health too. Sad I'm late 40's. I worry about going blind too, I'd rather lose a foot or something.
Still, when I Googled those quotes above, it said you can help your blood pressure by: Self-care
These lifestyle changes can help prevent and lower high blood pressure:
reduce the amount of salt you eat and have a generally healthy diet
cut back on alcohol
lose weight if you're overweight
exercise regularly
cut down on caffeine
stop smoking
Some people with high blood pressure may also need to take 1 or more medicines to stop their blood pressure getting too high.

I'm trying to lose weight (First weigh in tomorrow! Shock ) and eat healthily. I don't usually use salt, don't drink alcohol and have one caffeinated drink a day. I don't know, doesn't feel enough???
Anyway, to be more positive, Smile PaperMonster has posted about her mum up their who doesn't have heart problems. There are also a couple of other diabetes specific forums you could try too: this is just one.
How is your diabetes controlled? Do you take medication, or just by diet alone? Have you been diagnosed long (I was 3ish years ago but still feel pretty new to it, lol.). Anyway, welcome again, I hope I haven't put you off! Grin

OP posts:
NintendoStress · 13/02/2022 17:32

Thank you! No you haven't put me off. I was diagnosed about 3 or 4 years ago too, borderline results so was told to lose weight and manage through diet. But I have found losing weight too hard. I know what to do, but I get awful migraines so my attempts at healthy eating inevitably get sabotaged within a few days by feeling so ill and having to fuel myself with junk in order to keep going for my young kids. Then lockdown was hard, like it was for a lot of people, and not ideal for motivating weight loss. In fact I put weight on. I put off having my annual blood test last year because I know it wasn't going to be good news and I'm too scared to hear it. Keep thinking 'I'll go next month once I've been able to eat healthily and lose a stone' but that never happens. But I have to be more proactive about the appointment now. I have bought a Freestyle Libre monitor and have been wearing that for a few days now. The results don't look great so I suspect I'll need to be put on medicine and I'll be so disappointed in myself.

WreckTangled · 13/02/2022 18:24

Hi Nintendo I think the reason we self sabotage is due to over restriction. Make sure you have some things that you love, or some healthier versions of them. I also find I want things I can just grab and eat without chopping/making etc so eat better when I have some thing a prepped and ready to go. Also lots of protein to keep you full (plus maintain muscle mass whilst losing body fat). I've always been pretty good but am off the wagon a bit.it's do better and listen to my own advice Grin

NintendoStress · 13/02/2022 22:26

Thanks, I am trying to get better! I need to accept i can't be perfect. Thinking I should stick to rules 100% of the time just means that I inevitably 'fail' and then binge as I may as well fail properly!

73kittycat73 · 14/02/2022 10:23

Aww, sorry to hear that, NintendoStress. It's hard isn't it? The only way I've found I can do it is to not have anything in. (I had honey in for hypos but kept eating it. Grin However, in the diabetes magazine the nurse gave me it suggested Coke Cola for them. I have a small bottle coming today, couldn't get a can, so once the honey is gone, it's gone!)
Mabey ease yourself into it instead of all in one go? Eating a bit of what you fancy daily instead of banning and craving? Then cut down the amount slowly? Maybe a little less each day, or every other day.
You'll get there. I'm sure. Smile
Hi WreckTangled, some sound advice there. Smile How are you doing today?
Hope you are OK BorderlineHappy ?
And I hope you are not too busy PaperMonster!
I weighed in today, I've lost 6lbs!!! So pleased. Grin
