Camilla to be Queen

I think I’m happy with this (not that’s it’s any of my business). She’s clearly made Charles very happy and has fitted into the family well.
Good for her, it’s deserved.

I'm really torn on this but one thing I do think is that is very poor timing.

Her jubilee message seems a bit of an odd place to even mention it in the imo it should be all about her reign not the next, expecially knowing how divisive the subject is to some.

All of which makes me wonder is the Queen quite well? and preparing us for the transition sooner rather than later.............

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2022 23:33

Blimey I bet there's a Petition somewhere being started already.

Willyoujustbequiet · 05/02/2022 23:33

Consort not Queen

And not for me she's not or ever will be.

AdoptedBumpkin · 05/02/2022 23:33

I don't think this really matters a great deal either way. It won't bring down the monarchy or make it more popular.

LuluBlakey1 · 05/02/2022 23:33

@Pyriah

‘ Except it's not them announcing their wish it's the Queen's, who is kind of in charge here’ It doesn’t matter who is in charge, they’re still breaking the promise that was made to the public. They knew nobody wanted Camilla as queen so when they married they said we promise that will never happen. Otherwise people would have objected to the marriage. And now they’re like “haha we lied!”
You sound utterly ridiculous.

Camilla is well-liked now. She would be Queen Consort whether she used the title or not.

What's it to you anyway? Why do you care? It doesn't affect you in any way. It won't cost us more, she won't be making any decisions that affect us, she will have no power legally whatever she is.

She is legally his wife and as such, will be Queen Consort. If HM The Queen has come round to the idea, I think your views are an irrelevancy.

endofagain · 05/02/2022 23:34

Voting for politicians. That always goes so well. No leeching of tax payers' money at all. Hmm

DappledThings · 05/02/2022 23:34

She's 95! Of course everyone's prepared for the transition to be imminent.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 05/02/2022 23:34

The queen mother supposedly hated dowager queen .

Mintfullness · 05/02/2022 23:34

I cant believe it
Sounds like a big joke

Pyriah · 05/02/2022 23:34

‘ Its actually quite clever as HMQ is expressing her wish that Camilla is styled as Queen when the time comes - and thus this "top trumps" any statements Clarence House previously made on the matter as they would want to respect the wishes of HMQ.’

So they’re creating a loophole. We said she would never be queen - but oops, QE has said she should be, so now we have to go back on our word. But it’s not our fault at all! Liars the lot of them, it was obviously their plan from the beginning to hoodwink the public.

Cameleongirl · 05/02/2022 23:35

@Pyriah 17 years later, public opinion may have changed, though. Plus, given that the Queen Mother lived to 100, the Queen may live even longer so who knows what the public will think by the time Charles is on the throne?

WitchWithoutChips · 05/02/2022 23:35

The two types of Queen are Queen regent, the actual monarch, eg the current Queen Elizabeth II and Queen consort, the wife of the King

I am sorry to be pedantic especially as that is probably an autocorrect error but a queen regnant is very different to a regent. Queens consort and queens regent are not sovereigns.

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2022 23:35

Ah, so the timing isn't 'because Andrew' it's because the Queen is about to die. Right.
Or because tomorrow being 70 years on the throne...

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2022 23:37

Woman married to heir to the throne for 16 years is now probably going to be known by a title slightly different to the one that hasn't been mentioned in years.

It's barely even news. What makes it sound like a joke?

youvegottenminuteslynn · 05/02/2022 23:40

@Pyriah

‘ You don’t get to vote for the monarchy. That’s not how it works.’

And that is exactly why we should have a republic. So we can vote for who we want and vote to remove those who are unfit. Such as Camilla.

Gosh, so much anger from you towards Camilla.

Presumably if your issue is the fact they had an affair, you also don't believe that Charles 'deserves' to be King?

BreadInCaptivity · 05/02/2022 23:40

I don't think they are hoodwinking anyone.

Life moves on.

C&C have now been married longer than C&D were.

As I said upthread, C&D's marriage was a disaster for them both and neither behaved well.

Basing decisions on events over 25 years old is silly.

Tealightsandd · 05/02/2022 23:41

Cos republics - and Presidents - have gone so well elsewhere...

I think it's worth repeating what I said before. In many republics, the State figurehead costs the taxpayer a lot more money than ours.

Ncwinc · 05/02/2022 23:43

I’d much rather they skip Charles completely and go straight to William and Kate. I don’t want Charles as King.

youvegottenminuteslynn · 05/02/2022 23:44

Oh and @Pyriah even those people I know who were avid anti Camilla in the past have warmed to her or at least don't have an especially strong opinion about her anymore. I don't think she's as unpopular as you think she is.

And I'm no royalist, so I personally don't really give a shit and think that the concept of the royal family is entirely outdated and frankly odd.

But I do see the huge hypocrisy in people who act as though Camilla is a morally bankrupt wrongen, but think Charles (who by all accounts should have been held to a much higher standard as future monarch) is apparently still just fine to be King...

ClariceQuiff · 05/02/2022 23:44

So, in other words, you want to choose the Head of State. That would be a Republic, then. Grin

@SomeFuckingWizardry

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-60274193 - possibly a distraction from this, Andrew to give deposition evidence in March, which was published an hour ago?
I very much doubt it.

This is a part of the Jubilee statement, marking 70 years to the day (20 mins to go)

I don't see when else she couid have made such a statement without starting 'imminent death' rumours and itnwill be pretty much immediately overwhelmed by cover age of Jubilee coverage.

Hazelnutwhirl · 05/02/2022 23:47

I agree with @Ncwinc I wish we could skip Charles, I have no time for him whatsoever, it was appalling how they treated Diana. And Camilla is currently Duchess of Cornwall not princess of Wales.

StScholastica · 05/02/2022 23:47

I think there is no doubt the Queen has been an amazing leader, but she has been badly advised over the whole Prince Andrew affair. I'd love to see Charles and Camilla bypassed and the Crown passed directly to William.

Musicalmaestro · 05/02/2022 23:49

Camilla has done a lot of work with domestic abuse and osteoporosis amongst other charities. She has been a loyal member of the royal family and worked hard.
I don't understand all the frothing to be honest.
