Camilla to be Queen

I think I’m happy with this (not that’s it’s any of my business). She’s clearly made Charles very happy and has fitted into the family well.
Good for her, it’s deserved.

Yes, over Diana and also acknowledge the historical fact that the wife of the King is the Queen Consort. Prince Philip was Prince Consort because he was married to the Queen - Queens (the hereditary monarchs) aren’t married to King Consort because Queens are deferential to Kings.

I though Prince Philip was a Prince because he was a Prince in his own right, before he married Princess Elizabeth.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 05/02/2022 23:50

@Hazelnutwhirl Camilla is Princess of Wales. She just doesn't use it as a title.

Thesearmsofmine · 05/02/2022 23:51

@Hazelnutwhirl

I agree with *@Ncwinc* I wish we could skip Charles, I have no time for him whatsoever, it was appalling how they treated Diana. And Camilla is currently Duchess of Cornwall not princess of Wales.
She is Princess of Wales, she just doesn’t go by that title.
TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 05/02/2022 23:52

@GrandDuchessRomanov

I'm really torn on this but one thing I do think is that is very poor timing.

Her jubilee message seems a bit of an odd place to even mention it in the imo it should be all about her reign not the next, expecially knowing how divisive the subject is to some.

All of which makes me wonder is the Queen quite well? and preparing us for the transition sooner rather than later.............

I suspect she isn’t well too. Even if she’s fine just now, though, at 95 she won’t have many years left, so it makes sense to get any outrage out of the way now and not have it boil up when she does die.
Topseyt · 05/02/2022 23:52

@Ncwinc

I’d much rather they skip Charles completely and go straight to William and Kate. I don’t want Charles as King.
Hard luck, I'm afraid.

You're even assuming that William would want his father to be bypassed for the role that he has spent his whole life preparing for.

donquixotedelamancha · 05/02/2022 23:54

Disgusting. I would vote for a republic long before I accept Camilla as Queen of England.

She wouldn't be queen of England anymore than she'd be queen of Wessex or any other country which hasn't existed as a nation for donkey's years.

The fact that anyone is upset about this is hilarious. In what way does it affect your life?

People like to follow celebs. It's no different from caring what the Kardashians do all the time (perhaps a little harsh on the Kardashians but you get the point).

ClariceQuiff · 05/02/2022 23:55

It's true that he was a Prince of Greece by birth, but the Queen created him a Prince of the United Kingdom.

BreadInCaptivity · 05/02/2022 23:55

I though Prince Philip was a Prince because he was a Prince in his own right, before he married Princess Elizabeth.

He was, but had to renounce his title when he married HMQ.

He was then gifted the title of DoE.

It was only many years later in 1957 (after the birth of Charles and Anne) that HMQ made him a British Prince.

For the early part of her reign he was not Prince Philip and that was apparently something that rankled for him, especially when his elder children were born and effectively "out ranked" him.

EdithWeston · 05/02/2022 23:57

I though Prince Philip was a Prince because he was a Prince in his own right, before he married Princess Elizabeth

He renounced his foreign princedom in order to marry the Queen, and was not created Prince (of the United Kingdom and the realms) until 1957.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 05/02/2022 23:57

Diana wasn’t a princess in her own right either - she became a princess by marrying a prince. I can’t remember if Kate is already technically a princess or not, but I bet she’ll become one when William becomes Prince of Wales.

RaininSummer · 05/02/2022 23:57

I really don't care either way although it seems churlish to refuse her the title after all these years by his side.

notthemum · 05/02/2022 23:57

Me too.

WitchWithoutChips · 05/02/2022 23:58

I though Prince Philip was a Prince because he was a Prince in his own right, before he married Princess Elizabeth.

He was a prince of both Greece and Denmark but relinquished the titles. He was created Duke of Edinburgh on his marriage to Princess Elizabeth then a few years into her reign the Queen issued letters patent to make him Prince Consort. He was technically not a prince between 1947-1957.

@Pyriah When did The Queen just become the Queen of England?

Catherine is a princess by marriage. She is not a princess in her own right, which is why it would be incorrect to call her Princess Catherine. At some point, it is expected that she will be the Princess of Wales, but that will also be by marriage and not in her own right.
StScholastica · 06/02/2022 00:03

I wonder how William and Harry actually view their father? I know my own father was unfaithful, and although my mother stood by him, a part of me will never forgive him for causing her that pain.

Blueuggboots · 06/02/2022 00:03

I agree with @JudgeJ. The Queen is nearly 96 and looking (understandably) increasingly frail. I think she's poorly and I don't think she'll make another year. I think she's amazing.

Not just UK. Some Commonwealth countries too.

Oh, just seen the link. The wife of the King has always been Queen Consort though. Confused
This!
feelsobadfeltsogood · 06/02/2022 00:08

@supercalifragilistic123

But why announce it now? At 10pm on a Saturday!
To distract from Andrews upcoming activity giving evidence maybe?

She is already Princess William of Wales (same pattern as a Princess Michael of Kent) but uses the title that goes with his dukedom instead

Her occupation is listed as Princess on their DC birth certificates

ChocolateDeficitDisorder · 06/02/2022 00:08

Also she will be Queen of more than England !

It's only people in England who give a shit.

Kate is technically 'Princess William' but they use the styles 'Duke and Duchess of Cambridge'.

You can only be Princess YourFirstName if you were born a Princess - it's the same as other titles, such as 'Lady' - the daughter of an Earl will be Lady FirstName all her life (e.g. Lady Sarah McCorquodale, nee Lady Sarah Spencer) but someone untitled who has married a 'Sir' will only ever be Lady Surname, e.g. Cherie, Lady Blair, wife of Sir Tony Blair.

LuluBlakey1 · 06/02/2022 00:10

@Pyriah

‘ You don’t get to vote for the monarchy. That’s not how it works.’

And that is exactly why we should have a republic. So we can vote for who we want and vote to remove those who are unfit. Such as Camilla.

Like we voted for Johnson
WinnieTheW0rm · 06/02/2022 00:10

To distract from Andrews upcoming activity giving evidence maybe?

Yeah, right, her father died 70 years ago today just to give a pretext for a massage to the nations

I think she had to do it now, because of her age, infirmity, and on an occasion when it'll get buried in the general Jubilee coverage
