Camilla to be Queen

I think I’m happy with this (not that’s it’s any of my business). She’s clearly made Charles very happy and has fitted into the family well.
Good for her, it’s deserved.

Yes, they are both beyond state pension age. There is no statutory retirement age now, simply an age when you get a state pension if you paid enough contributions.
But William and Catherine don't work full-time as they have a young family. Most jobs don't allow the same salary for part-time working. In fact the Queen until fairly recently did far more engagements than the younger members of the family. So they have an easy time when younger, and have to work for longer than normal. I will swap places?

@Monopolyiscrap

Grin sure. You can throw all the passive-aggressive insults you want, but it was such a strange thing for anyone to say, that it does stick in your mind.
It was remarkably imparting to say. Charles broke his marriage vows in his 1st marriage from the very beginning, so it never really stood a chance (ditto Camilla, though Diana behaved badly later on too, poss as a consequence)

I have no respect for either of them (not that they'd care!). I would prefer to see the Monarchy disbanded once the Queen dies. Its archaic & embarrassing.

Monopolyiscrap · 07/02/2022 12:43

@CornishGem1975 they were separated. Or do you expect a woman to wait until the official divorce comes through?

And I do judge affairs. It is immoral behaviour.

Monopolyiscrap · 07/02/2022 12:45

@52andblue I agree the monarchy should end when the Queen dies.

Err no she wasn't separated by all accounts... there were a few through the 80s, not all were single either, making her the dreaded 'other woman' but this is conveniently airbrushed out.

Lockdownbear · 07/02/2022 13:06

The monarchy is not going to end when the Queen dies. Its just not. The second she is dead Charles is King. Like the scene from a film, The Queen is Dead, Long live the King!

I'm curious to know if they actually will say that.

Blossomtoes · 07/02/2022 13:08

It looks as if Saint Diana didn’t much care about Will Carling’s marriage.

Monopolyiscrap · 07/02/2022 13:10

Are you talking about their legal separation in 1992? They were alreády separated in practice before that.

Or the wife and children of Barry Mannakee which was back in 1985.

Monopolyiscrap · 07/02/2022 14:09

Why are you using the mocking monicker Saint Diana?

CallmeHendricks · 07/02/2022 14:23

@Monopolyiscrap

Why are you using the mocking monicker Saint Diana?
Because for her to do what she slated Camilla for is hardly the action of a saint, is it?
Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/02/2022 14:29

(Anne and Camilla might have different work loads but let's not forget they are both Grannies well beyond statutory retirement age

Quite right, and also true that the first was brought up to it and the second not
However nobody was forcing Camilla to join the RF, and some of us wish she hadn't - or better still, that the whole lot of them didn't exist at all

Monopolyiscrap · 07/02/2022 14:33

@CallmeHendricksI don't actually blame Camilla. I blame Charles.

Blossomtoes · 07/02/2022 14:44

That’s not what you said earlier:

Okay I don't respect them then. They have had an affair and think they did nothing wrong. Vile pair

CallmeHendricks · 07/02/2022 14:45

I don't actually think it's up to any of us to judge anyway. We none of us has any real idea of what really went on in that marriage, but I think it's fair to say that both of them (Diana and Charles) were extremely unhappy.

Monopolyiscrap · 07/02/2022 14:48

@Blossomtoes I do think Camilla is vile. Meeting with her lover's wife when his wife knew nothing of her affair? Having a racist statue in her house. Laughing during Harry's marriage in the church as the American pastor. Neither she nor Charles appear as decent people.

DePfeffoff · 07/02/2022 15:03
@Blossomtoes why should I forgive someone for something if they think they did nothing wrong? I don't.
Charles and Camilla were unfaithful, which seems par for the course in the Royal Family. That was not okay.
But Charles things we should look up to him?
I doubt that Charles cares one iota whether @Monopolyiscrap looks up to him.

maddy68 · 07/02/2022 15:06

Good. She will be the king's wife. That's how it works

DePfeffoff · 07/02/2022 15:08

And yet you claim not to be angry about them. You certainly do a good job of disguising your lack of anger.

Monopolyiscrap · 07/02/2022 15:13

No I am not angry. Yes I do judge them.
People can have far more nuanced feelings than anger, sadness and happiness.

CallmeHendricks · 07/02/2022 15:21

I think Camilla has shown great strength of character and a deep love for Charles in loyally sticking by him and serving our nation for all these years despite the vitriolic and terrifically hurtful abuse she has received in the media.

toconclude · 07/02/2022 15:30

@Pyriah

Disgusting. I would vote for a republic long before I accept Camilla as Queen of England.
Oh for goodness' sake.🙄Cult of At Diana the Faultless strikes again.

Monopolyiscrap · 07/02/2022 15:32

@CallmeHendricks how do you know they have a deep love?
