Camilla to be Queen

I think I’m happy with this (not that’s it’s any of my business). She’s clearly made Charles very happy and has fitted into the family well.
Good for her, it’s deserved.

@Tealightsandd

I think it would be nice if there was more focus on her current work rather than something that happened 30 years ago - and was a situation where, like pp say, all parties involved were in a way victims.

She supports some fantastic causes including domestic abuse and osteoporosis - although sadly it's not given much media attention. Perhaps that might change in the future?

This is very true. HMQ giving her blessings and expressing a wish for Camilla to take Queen title is recognition of everything she has brought to the RF and her charity work over the last 16 years.

"Hope people respect the clear wishes of a queen who has served for 70 years!"

Is there an option here that I'm missing? Like a vote? 👀
Oh yeah right.... doesn't matter what anyone thinks they do as they please🤣

dayswithaY · 06/02/2022 23:02

People saying let's end the monarchy, how exactly?

No Prime Minister will even raise the idea of a referendum on it as it would make them so unpopular, the RF aren't going to choose to walk away, why would they?

Short of storming the gates of Buck House, how would it work? Even then, most people couldn't be bothered to turn up for it.

It would be ludicrous to have a vote on this, not least because it has zero effect on our day to day lives.

@Benjispruce5

Apart from the obvious ruination of a young woman’s life just so he can get an heir and a spare, all I can think of is the tampax phone call. How can he be king???
Seriously? All you can think of is a phone call between two people you've never known 32 years ago?

Do you ever wonder if you have your priorities right?

Tealightsandd · 06/02/2022 23:17

@Benjispruce5

So we can’t ever get rid of the monarchy?
I guess it will depend on what people want in the future, but definitely saving taxpayer money wouldn't be a good reason to get rid. Just like the PM and other senior MPs have state funded homes (Chequers, etc) a President would too.
Mogwig · 06/02/2022 23:19

She's done stacks of real work on domestic abuse, and never sought praise or publicised it.

She's paid her dues, I think, as has Charles. I think it's only fair she can be his wife in name and title properly.

Yet again the Queen shows humility and graciousness and very good sense.

Monopolyiscrap · 06/02/2022 23:37

@Benjispruce5

Other countries have. I understand The Queen owns Balmoral and Sandringham privately. The other homes belong to the Crown.
Bought with money we gave them.
Monopolyiscrap · 06/02/2022 23:39

@DePfeffoff I always think of the Tampax thing when I see Charles as well.

If you're happy to admit to having an incredibly limited mindset, who am I to stop you.

Monopolyiscrap · 06/02/2022 23:52

Grin sure. You can throw all the passive-aggressive insults you want, but it was such a strange thing for anyone to say, that it does stick in your mind.

Blossomtoes · 07/02/2022 00:05

@Twillow

I'm actually shocked. However much the queen likes her, and however happy Charles is, the hypocrisy of bestowing this title on one of these two adulterers (one of whom potentially the head of the Church of England) is astonishing.
Have I suddenly woken up and found myself in 1952? Adulterers? They’ve been married for 17 years, ffs. Is this the attitude you take towards your divorced friends who have remarried?
hoteltango · 07/02/2022 00:22

Whatever the Royal Family is actually for, and that's a debatable issue, I think that Camilla has done it far, far better than Diana ever could. Camilla focuses on the cause she's involved with; Diana focused mostly on herself.

Monopolyiscrap · 07/02/2022 01:00

@hoteltango that is such a horrible and nasty comment.
Diana achieved so much with AIDS. I have no idea if you were an adult then, but if you were you should understand just how much she achieved.

Monopolyiscrap · 07/02/2022 01:01

@Blossomtoes I guess if you are the Head of a church that preaches certain values, then you should at least try and follow them yourself?
By the way I do judge people I know who have affairs. It is never okay.

You mean like forgiveness?

merrymelodies · 07/02/2022 02:33

Nope. Not happy with this. What she and Charles did to Diana was disgusting. None of my business but that's how I feel!

blyn72 · 07/02/2022 03:56

Apparently the Queen has decided that Camilla will have the old Queen Mother's crown when the time comes.

ChudraWouldaShouldya · 07/02/2022 04:15

The ignorance on this thread is outstanding!

StartupRepair · 07/02/2022 04:50

I think this is a typically astute move from the Queen. Making it known now means that it will be smoother for C and C when the time comes, as everyone will be used to the idea and it will not be an issue in the immediate intense aftermath of her death.

DearlyBeloathed · 07/02/2022 05:09

Some people will always hate her because they hold Diana up as some kind of amazing woman but she was no angel and it is very easy to hold someone in high esteem when they are no longer around

Spot on.

So you should be shunned forever if you have an affair?

Get a grip.

MadamMaltesers · 07/02/2022 06:37
Shock
Lockdownbear · 07/02/2022 07:56

@StartupRepair - that is a very good point. I've suspected for a while she would be Queen rather than Consort but making it known now makes it easier for them both.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Coronation is planned and occasionally rehearsal like the funerals. Given both HMQs age and Charles age I think he'll be crowned within 6-9 months of HMQ dying. Enough time for grief to settle / bit of respect for HMQ and time for better weather, ie he's unlikely to have a Coronation in the winter months.

You do know how the Church of England came into being, don't you?
