Where do people dry their hair?!

I sit on the floor but have always aspired to having a dressing table! I am mid 50's and was just thinking, when you are 70 do you still sit on the floor drying your hair?!

Standing up or just let it air dry. I have thick hair that is normally cut short, so I only blow dry it in winter when it's long.

I have a lovely dressing table with a gorgeous pouffe stool…I still sit on the floor of our walk in wardrobe as that’s where the full length mirror is, the stool often has clothes on it and is impractical to pull out, and my baby hates the hair dryer sound so I have to block it out!

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 03/02/2022 09:28

Standing up Confused
Why would you sit on the floor

I mean, by the same token, why would you stand up?!

I dry mine sitting at my dressing table now I’ve got one. As a teen I’d sit on the floor by the mirror as I only had a wall mounted full length mirror.

I never let my hair dry naturally. I am curly and need a hairdryer for the volume!

In the bathroom. Always.

Purplecatshopaholic · 03/02/2022 09:38

Standing up in front of a full length mirror. Just prefer doing it that way

maximist · 03/02/2022 09:44

In front of the mirror in the bathroom - I designed it so the mirror is just inside the door, with a plug socket on the landing just outside the door. Despite my hair being long it's very fine, so I can dry it from wet in less than five minutes, so standing up isn't a problem.

Dressing table in the bedroom, where I spend 20 minutes with aching arms wondering why I just didn’t just let it sit dry and allow nature to take the strain for me.

Mollysocks · 03/02/2022 09:49

Air*

EL1984 · 03/02/2022 10:22

Stand up looking at the full length mirror I do a couple of hair flips.
My hair oy takes a couple of mins to dry as it is very fine and I usually wait a bit after getting out of the shower.
Would love a sit down dressing table!

I've got a dressing table but end up in the hallway in front of the mirror on the floor as bloody DH is so light phobic that I can't have enough light on in the bedroom.

I swear he was a bat in a past life.

MirandaWest · 03/02/2022 10:26

I sit on the bed when I blow dry it. There is a mirror at the bottom of the bed and I look at it sometimes

dementedpixie · 03/02/2022 10:27

I stand up in front of a mirror that sits on top of the chest of drawers in my bedroom

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/02/2022 10:27

In the utility room, there's a mirror in there and I do my make up at the kitchen table after breakfast . I come downstairs dressed with a towel turban and do my make up after breakfast then towel goes on the washing machine and I do my hair.

Haha this is my DP, he sits in his office with all the curtains closed, if I hadn’t seen his reflection in a mirror I’d assume he was a vampire.
chatw0o0 · 03/02/2022 10:57

In the bathroom, or sometimes I'll sit on the edge of the bed, near the bathroom door (have a fairly long cord on the dryer).

WeAllHaveWings · 03/02/2022 11:00

I would like a dressing table and stool too, but it wouldn't be an effective use of limited space.

I have a low set of drawers with a mirror on the wall behind it and have a dip in the mattress where I sit on the bed.

ABitOfAShitShow · 03/02/2022 11:03

I dry mine standing with my head upside down so it doesn’t really matter where I am. The hairdryer lives in the spare room so that’s where I do it (I usually shower in the en suite to that room so it’s just convenience really).

Caspianberg · 03/02/2022 11:04

In bathroom. Also mainland Europe, voltage same as the Uk and all bathrooms have electrical sockets.
Many have washing machine and tumble dryers in the bathroom too.

Spinnier · 03/02/2022 11:05

I expect that sitting on the floor every day is the best way to make sure you still can at 70! I'm out of practice at clambering up and down since my kids outgrew playing on the floor.

I have a dressing table now. It's lovely. But who knows if I'll have space for one wherever I'm living at 70?

Vicliz24 · 03/02/2022 11:12

I'm up early for work so I have a footstool in the living room which I sit on and a mirror I put on the radiator. Dryer and mirror live in the cupboard under the tv where I have a socket.

Spinnier · 03/02/2022 11:12

It's interesting about the bathroom seeming the normal place outside the UK. That's never crossed my mind as an option. I suppose I grew up sharing bathrooms and it was always important to leave it available for the next person.

FreeButtonBee · 03/02/2022 11:18

I have a small side table in the bedroom with a mirror precariously leaning on top and have a box of hair stuff under the table. So mostly there. Really want a proper dressing table/desk as we often have to use as a make shift second office in lockdown times. It's on the list...

EmmaStone · 03/02/2022 13:55

On the floor as well. I do my make up sitting on the floor too. Neither hair nor make-up takes me very long though. My grandma used to often sit on the floor (she died aged 99), and I know they say being able to get up and down off the floor is an important skill as you age for mobility, so maybe it's a good thing??

We still share. If someone is drying their hair, someone else often comes in anyway!

rifling · 03/02/2022 14:03

Although nobody spends longer than 5 minutes drying their hair in our family!
