Where do people dry their hair?!

I sit on the floor but have always aspired to having a dressing table! I am mid 50's and was just thinking, when you are 70 do you still sit on the floor drying your hair?!

At my dressing table. I sit in a chair.

SenecaFallsRedux · 03/02/2022 14:09

I'm American so I dry it in the bathroom. A portion of the counter is a dressing table so I can sit in front of the mirror to dry it. There's no issue about someone else needing to come in; we have more bathrooms than people in this house (also an American thing, I suspect.)

cannaethink · 03/02/2022 14:14

I’ve got a full length mirror but I still sit on the floor. I’ve always sat in the floor! I have to stand at my BFs house which feels like such an effort.
When travelling in places with bathroom sockets I still sat on my bedroom floor Grin

For the first time in my life I actually have a proper place to dry my hair and do my make up...its just a secondhand mirror, a shelf with hooks for my hair drying stuff and a light so I can actually dry my hair in front of a normal sized mirror but it pleases me so much! Until this point I have sat on the edge of the bed, balancing a tiny mirror on the window sill! I feel like I have finally become a proper adult 🤣🤣

devuskums · 03/02/2022 14:29

Forgot to say..I am almost 50!

whoruntheworldgirls · 03/02/2022 14:33

@Judystilldreamsofhorses

I stand in front of the full-length mirror in the bedroom.
Same.

Had a a dressing table before moving house and never used it. I do make up in the window for natural light.

LadyCleathStuart · 03/02/2022 14:34

I sit on the bed but facing our mirror wardrobe doors which I hate as they are a bit old fashioned but come in very useful. Also have a plug just inside the wardrobe which is perfect for the hairdryer/straightners.

I have a make up area in the en-suite with light up mirror, it would be perfect for doing my hair but there isn't a plug.

CounsellorTroi · 03/02/2022 14:37

I sit at my dressing table.

Babdoc · 03/02/2022 14:40

I walk to the village shop to get my morning paper. My hair is dry by the time I come back. One of the practical advantages of a short hair style!

GiantKitten · 03/02/2022 14:43

I am 70 Grin

I mostly air-dry mine, but finish it off upside down, standing up bending forwards, to straighten out wiggly bits (it’s currently past shoulder length but I’m overdue having about 6” off it)

banivani · 03/02/2022 14:44

In the bathroom. Because in Sweden you can have electricity there ;)

crosstalk · 03/02/2022 14:50

Just air dry. No problems.

steppemum · 03/02/2022 14:53

I turn my head upside down and dry it that way, so sitting down wouldn't work!

EuripidesTrousers · 03/02/2022 14:54

I've always had a dressing table, complete with mirror that will show me both sides as well as the front. All lotions and potions stored on the dressing table too.

Woofwoofbarkbark · 03/02/2022 14:54

I didn't really understand what you meant until I started reading the comments!

I just air dry mine.

Mollysocks · 03/02/2022 15:23

That seems madness to me 😆 but I’m guessing that’s because the voltage isn’t as high/powerful?
ApolloandDaphne · 03/02/2022 15:42

I dry mine at my dressing table. I love it. Nice big mirror in front of the windows so I can look out and see the birds bobbing in and out of the bushes and the sea in the far distance. I find it a very relaxing experience!

CocoPancakes · 03/02/2022 15:44

On a chair at a dressing table with a mirror. I'm lucky. It is an absolute bug bear (or bare?) of mine when you go to a hotel that does not have a plug socket within reach of a mirror. I don't care if I have to sit on the floor to do it, I just need to be able to see what I'm doing.

Scarby9 · 03/02/2022 15:48

In the car on the way to work!
I work an hour away, so just nice time for the car heaters to do their job. Pull into the car park, run a comb through my hair, and I'm good to go.

Pyewhacket · 03/02/2022 15:49

In my dressing room or in the locker room after a 12 hour shift. Trust policy.

Franklin12 · 03/02/2022 15:56

All these people who just leave to air dry etc. I would look like I had been in a fight if I left it to dry naturally. Have a dressing table and all products and dryer plugged in ready to be used.

With regard to the US. I am STAGGERED that they think using the dryer in the bathroom is a good idea. With the big mirrors it is ideal apart from the fact its near to water! You could have just filled the sink, used the sink so water is still around etc.

What if you touched the dryer with wet hands, water splashed on the dryer. It doesnt bear thinking about.

Ncwinc · 03/02/2022 16:05

Sitting on the bed.

Hairdryers have become safer over the last 25 years (automatic shut off when immersed in water) but there are still people dying from hairdryer accidents in the bathroom. I don’t think the convenience is worth the risk.

poetryandwine · 03/02/2022 16:09

Standing in front of the bedroom mirror.

Yes to your observation about voltage, @ErrolTheDragon, but the voltage on the continent is similar to ours and one of the minor reasons I love to visit is for the pleasure of drying my hair in the bathroom!

I’m sure I read somewhere it’s because their voltage isn’t as high, although I’m sure dropping a hairdryer in a bath would kill you anywhere (if you were in it) so now I’m not too sure.

It’s confusing too because our plugs are safer than the 2 pronged plugs as they have a grounded wire…

nappingnappingnapping · 03/02/2022 16:18

I stand in front of the full length mirror in my room. But mostly I let it air dry, I usually dust my hairdrier once a month for all the use it gets.

I don't get drying in the bathroom. Safety aspect aside, the mirror is all steamy from the shower!
