Where do people dry their hair?!

I sit on the floor but have always aspired to having a dressing table! I am mid 50's and was just thinking, when you are 70 do you still sit on the floor drying your hair?!

In the car😁

If I put the blowers in the right position on the drive to work it dries it very nicely, then I give it a quick brush after I've parked up in the staff car park...

Ncwinc · 03/02/2022 16:19

It looks like you can have plug sockets are in British bathrooms - but only if they are 3 meters or more away from taps and showers. So you’d just need a big bathroom Grin

Ncwinc · 03/02/2022 16:23

’I don't get drying in the bathroom. Safety aspect aside, the mirror is all steamy from the shower!’

Humidity makes my hair go all poofy and wrong. I hadn’t even thought about that!

In the US they do also have current interruptors so in theory if you dropped the hairdryer in the bath the current would be cut out within a split second so you shouldn't do yourself that much damage.

That said I think our physics teachers scared the life out of us unnecessarily - mine said if you ever touched a light switch with water anywhere on your body you'd be electrocuted for sure Confused I do that regularly here in Germany as our lightswitch is on the inside and I am not dead yet. I don't think touching a hairdryer with wet hands nor using it near a sink would be particularly dangerous. Dropping it into a full bath while plugged in would be bad, but I don't think people tend to do that very often.

SenecaFallsRedux · 03/02/2022 17:12

In the US, ground fault circuit interrupters are required in areas that have a water source, especially bathrooms and kitchens. I have been drying my hair in the bathroom for at least 40 years with no mishaps yet. I do have enough sense not to fill the sink with water and stand over it while operating a hair dryer.

My favorite way to dry my hair is a nice blow-dry from my favorite salon, which I treat myself to now and then.

caringcarer · 03/02/2022 17:23

If I am running late the heater in the car blowing full blast at me.

Itstheprinciple · 03/02/2022 18:56

Sitting on a chair in my bedroom. I don't have a dressing table anymore but when I did, I sat on the bed!

VitaminA · 03/02/2022 18:59

One thing I don't miss about the UK is not being able to dry my hair in the bathroom!
It's fantastic not having to do it in the bedroom.

catwomando · 03/02/2022 19:00

I acquired a dressing table on my mid 40s. It's just bloody lovely. I can't believe I went so many years without it !

CrimbleCrumble1 · 03/02/2022 19:03

I also got a dressing table in my 40’s and it’s great. I now have a Dyson hairdryer that halves the time to dry my hair so I enjoy washing and drying it now.

Simonjt · 03/02/2022 19:04

In the bathroom, it’s long and narrow, so when the shower was put in it was far enough away to be fine. I then hid it when the bath was fitted so it didn’t need to be removed. They’re meant to be at least 3m from a bath/shower outlet.

MrsDThomas · 03/02/2022 19:26

I stand up and bend forward. I have a lot of hair and natural curl. Needs upside down drying

LesLavandes · 03/02/2022 19:29

In my home office at the desk!

Maireas · 03/02/2022 19:31

@Brett239

American here and I always thought it was so strange you can't dry your hair in the bathroom!! Why no power outlets?
Because we don't want to get fried!
Flockameanie · 03/02/2022 19:31

On my head. I got rid of my hairdryer about 10 years ago (I’m 45) and haven’t used one since. I recommend it!

Maireas · 03/02/2022 19:32

I like your style!
Maireas · 03/02/2022 19:33

@banivani

In the bathroom. Because in Sweden you can have electricity there ;)
All that and herring, too! Wink

Why don't you just buy a dressing table.
mizzo · 03/02/2022 20:19

Standing just over the threshold between my bedroom and the en suite.
I got my first dressing table a few years ago after wanting one for ages but don't feel right doing my hair sitting down so it's just used as a bookshelf. I'm going to sell it this year!

Lookingoutside · 03/02/2022 20:26

I sit on the floor in front of my full length mirror.

TwoShades1 · 03/02/2022 20:53

In the bathroom coz I live in Australia! It’s mental that you don’t have power points in bathrooms in the uk. We plug so much into ours! Hair dryer, straightener, light up magnifying mirror, electric toothbrush, water flosser.

Happy36 · 03/02/2022 21:23

Standing up at bathroom mirror, don't dry my hair that often and never for more than a couple of minutes (collarbone length).

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 03/02/2022 21:26

In the bathroom, which DH installed.

I think it might be safe, given that he's project managed the design and installation of thousands of bathrooms, and no one's been electrocuted by a hairdryer in any of them.

BootsScootsAndToots · 03/02/2022 22:07

How do British people feel about electricity in the kitchen. All those plugs, sink, and electrical appliances 🙄

Honestly, as an adult I'm sure you can avoid chucking your hairdryer into the bath/sink!

LadyCleathStuart · 04/02/2022 07:36

I am so jealous of everyone who can air dry their hair. I look like Rod Hull without blowdrying and straightening.

I had a pixie cut last year but still needed to run the straighteners over most days.
