Just heard this on the BBC. So young

That is sad. Although I agree 74 is really not young, and seems par for the course for a man in his state of health. And Jim Steinman also died a few months back.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 21/01/2022 09:55

I've just found on Spotify him singing it's all coming back to me now. Didn't know he sang that

BobHadBitchTits · 21/01/2022 09:56

Genuinely gutted.

suckingonchillidogs · 21/01/2022 09:59

Such sad news. Agree with @WomanStanleyWoman (and I bloody love your user name too chuck)

Kotatsu · 21/01/2022 09:59

I've got him on my 'supermix' and have been subjecting the kids to it in the car in the mornings. I love a bit of meatloaf.

Frankly, good on him for turning his life around a bit and making it to 74, because the 30 year old him wasn't going to make it that long!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/01/2022 10:02

💔Meatloaf😢

🦇🦇out of🔥🔥

His version of this with Marion Ravn is just beautiful
Lockedoorsopen · 21/01/2022 10:04

RIP Meat Loaf, you absolute legend and top bloke!

shadypines · 21/01/2022 10:06

What a legend. RIP.
I'd definitely do anything for Meatloaf, I'd even do that.

tigger1001 · 21/01/2022 10:06

@Celia66

Most of the 74 year olds I know have full and active lives, but it is not young. People were up in arms when the state pension age was raised to late 60s for many people!

RIP Meatloaf. Great entertainer and musician. So soon after the great Jim Steinmann. My favourite Meatloaf song was I Would Do Anything for Love but my favourite Steinmann song was It's All Coming Back to Me which he wouldn't allow Meatloaf to record. He gave it to Celine Dion instead.

Very sad for his family.

He played that at concerts and I have an album with him singing that. Is a far superior version than celine dion's
romany4 · 21/01/2022 10:08

It's sad
He was an icon

oldwhyno · 21/01/2022 10:11

RIP Meat.

One of those artists that I regret never having seen live.

Mummylin · 21/01/2022 10:18

May he R.I.P he gave so many so much pleasure.

Mochudubh · 21/01/2022 10:18

BOOH always reminds me of a school trip to France almost 40 years ago. It was played on the bus almost constantly. Fifty teenagers singing the respective male and female parts of PBTDL at the top of their voices must have driven the teachers and driver insane.

Happy Days. RIP Meat.

User48751490 · 21/01/2022 10:20

74 so young in today's terms.

SunshineCake1 · 21/01/2022 10:20

End of an era for me. He was the soundtrack of my teenage years and I'm right back there whenever I hear his songs.

It isn't that young but it resonates for me for as he is a tad younger than my in-laws so makes me worry for them.

As for the what was that thing he wouldn't do, it is so obvious I often wonder why people don't get it.

sluj · 21/01/2022 10:21

I have Alexa playing "Heaven can wait" in every room at the moment. So poignant and such a great voice

"Let the altar shine"...

Aposterhasnoname · 21/01/2022 10:23

The first time I’ve been truly gutted about a performer dying. Love his music, was listening to it in the car this morning before I knew he’d died.

Went to see him live a few years ago. So, good.

adoreyou · 21/01/2022 10:26

Love meatloaf.

Have a memory of being in my dads car, going on holiday and bat out hell II playing.

Was meant to see him live a few years ago but it was cancelled at the last minute.

He had a heart condition didn't he?

ilovebrie8 · 21/01/2022 10:27

so sad, loved his songs reminds me of my youth...he was a brilliant performer a one off

Autumnscene · 21/01/2022 10:34

I went to one of his concerts. Glass bottles flying through the air in the audience, bloody dangerous.

Good concert though.

Sad news.

PurpleFlower1983 · 21/01/2022 10:35

So sad about this. He was a legend.

echt · 21/01/2022 10:41

I wasn't a fan of his music but loved his spot in Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Stop fucking arguing about the "young" stuff.

My dad died at 72 in 1993 and it was considered an early death by doctors.

Think on.

ThreeKneeRepeater · 21/01/2022 10:43

I have a memory of him on a chat show getting very annoyed at people who wrote his name as Meatloaf. He emphasised over and over that it was two words.
Meat Loaf.
RIP.

peaceanddove · 21/01/2022 10:47

'For Crying Out Loud' has always been our song for 31 years.

Godspeed Meatloaf. And may you skid into the afterlife astride your throbbing motor bike, with your eyes wild and singing.
