Just heard this on the BBC. So young

Saw that. Shame.

AutisticLegoLover · 21/01/2022 09:28

Listening now. I put some of his songs on my Alexa playlist last weekend and I'll listen even more now. One of the soundtracks of my childhood. I guess heaven couldn't wait after all. Fantastic artist.

EmmaH2022 · 21/01/2022 09:28

@Onlinedilema

Sad news. Bar out of hell is a great album.
I would bet money he's played gigs in many of those and would enjoy your typo 😂

He wan't young, just seemed so young with his vibe! I heard he didn't like to be called a legend, so I'll just say, amazing performer, brought so much joy to so many.

Gonnagetgoing · 21/01/2022 09:28

my stepgrandad died I think at 71 or 74, can't quite recall which. He had been a rear gunner in WW2 and completed over 300 sorties. He did have a heart condition (was on warfarin) and liked fatty food (duck and goose were favourites) and chocolates though!

I mean it's old but it's young in comparison to others.

the80sweregreat · 21/01/2022 09:29

He was a bit of handful during interviews !
I've never heard any bad stories about him, but I like to think he was one of the good guys.

Abraxan · 21/01/2022 09:29

Whilst 74y isn't young, for the average British person it is younger than expected when it comes to dying, isn't the average age of death in England in the early 80s?

Foolsrule · 21/01/2022 09:29

I think that’s young! Most of my elderly relatives have gone on for another 20 years, well into their 90s!

DuchessOfDodo · 21/01/2022 09:30

@WomanStanleyWoman

This is such sad news; especially only a few months after the death of Jim Steinman. The true masters of the rock epic.

And no, maybe 74 isn’t young, but there’s something seriously wrong with someone whose first reaction to hearing this news is ‘Oh goody - I can use someone’s death to score points off a stranger on the internet’. If you’ve only contributed to pick the ‘so young’ comment to bits, take a good hard look at yourself.

Agree with this.

I really admired the Steinman-Meatloaf collaboration and they way they came together to make really dramatic (operatic) rock. BooH was the soundtrack to many family journeys when I was a child and is now the soundtrack to many journeys I make as an adult. Meatloaf may well have lived a fast life, but I still think it's a shame he's gone.

TheWeeDonkey · 21/01/2022 09:30

This is so sad, I love his music and what a performer! I've loved BOOH since I first heard it as a child and his music brings back such wonderful memories.

RIP Meatloaf 🏍 💐

borntobequiet · 21/01/2022 09:30

74 isn’t young and he apparently wasn’t well.
I’m 69 this year and I’m old. I don’t feel old, I’m healthy and happy and reasonably fit, but I accept I’m old. We all get old and there’s no point in trying to fool ourselves or deny it.

DonkeySkin · 21/01/2022 09:31

I lost my virginity, in my boyfriend’s car to the soundtrack of Bat Out of Hell.

Mine went at 74 and my grandma has now lived 20 years without him and still misses him terribly. To her, he went far, far too young.
Foolsrule · 21/01/2022 09:32

@Deux - exactly! Still word perfect 25 years later here 😆

GoodnightGrandma · 21/01/2022 09:35

It is not just an album, it’s a masterpiece. And he and Steinman are legends in my eyes. Hope you’re both rocking out up there.
RIP

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 21/01/2022 09:35

So sad. Love his music. RIP Meatloaf.

Phos · 21/01/2022 09:36

Not young nor unexpected but still very sad, one of my favourites.

Totally heartbroken hearing this Sad

Just an absolute icon - and I know loads of people in their 70's who I don't think as likely to die soon - for a start they only retired a couple of years ago

Literally tearful listening to 'I would do anything for love'

RIP you amazing entertainer, voice of my teenage years

I agree. I'm within a decade of 74 so this gives me the chills. But it doesn't mean I'm young, it means I'm getting old.

RIP. He was a bloody great performer and he seemed like a nice guy.

Imissmoominmama · 21/01/2022 09:47

@DonkeySkin- I like to think Meat would’ve approved of that use of his music; Paradise by the Dashboard Light, n’all that Grin.

2X4B523P · 21/01/2022 09:47

RIP Marvin

Buytoomuchonebay · 21/01/2022 09:47

@roses2

Did anyone find out what that thing he wouldn't do for love was?
‘Sooner or later you’ll be screwing around’ ‘I won’t do that’

It’s at the very end of the song and so easy to miss-it took me years to hear it

MadeForThis · 21/01/2022 09:48

RIP Meatlaof. What a performer!

My first ever concert 1994.

His music is superb.

rosydreams · 21/01/2022 09:50

74 not bad he has had a good life ,but its very sad .A legend that will be remembered

Everydaydayisaschoolday · 21/01/2022 09:51

Its so sad but he had been very ill and frail for a while.

If you get a chance go and see Bat out of Hell - the Musical . It's currently touring the U.K. and it's brilliant. I was at a performance yesterday and am going again tomorrow (and next week and the week after that etc). Tomorrows performance will be very emotional.
