I had the night of my life at a Meat Loaf concert when I was 16. Missed the last bus home because the gig went on and on, he just wouldn't stop and there was no way I was leaving before he did.

Bat out of Hell (and its companion album Bar out of Hell which I think we all want to go to now...) is still one of the top ten best selling albums of all time and it's 45 years old!

CurryLover55 · 21/01/2022 08:43

Saw him live - absolutely brilliant! I didn’t realise until quite recently that Jim Stein who wrote a lot of Meatloaf’s music had died.

the80sweregreat · 21/01/2022 08:43

Such a powerful voice
The last note of ' Bat out of hell ' is am a zing !
Almost operatic at times.

Branleuse · 21/01/2022 08:44

Oh Eddie Sad

Clawdy · 21/01/2022 08:45

Loved him for years. Wanted to see him in concert but nobody I knew was a fan. Then years later I dragged DD along to see Bat Out Of Hell, the musical, and she became hooked on the show, and MeatLoaf's music!

spongbob · 21/01/2022 08:46

The average life expectancy is 70s-80s.

Sad that anyone dies but dying a few years later than numerical "average" is not really young.

Of course to god family it will feel way too young.

SoupDragon · 21/01/2022 08:47

🙁

I hope he roars onto the afterlife to the tune of Bat our of Hell.

MrsBungle · 21/01/2022 08:47

I’m really sad Sad I loved meatloaf. Two out of three ain’t bad is my favourite song.

Wendyer · 21/01/2022 08:48

Two out of three makes me cry, I love it. He was an incredible performer.

I can still remember the day I bought Bat out of Hell. My parents had split up, and I’d chosen to live with my Dad. But on this particular day, I was out with my mother. I don’t know how I managed to get her into HMV in the first place, but I can still remember so clearly her sneery tone when she saw the album title :(.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 21/01/2022 08:49

Doubly sad when you recall that Jim. Steinman who wrote many of the Meatloaf classics died last year too

DontKeepTheFaith · 21/01/2022 08:49

Very, very sad. Loved Meatloaf since I was a teen, I’m now late 40’s😢

He wasn’t young by any stretch at 74, neither am I for that matter at 47 and he did have health problems iirc.

A real loss though, he was awesome. RIP Meatloaf

MoiraNotRuby · 21/01/2022 08:50

Sad news, he was a legend. So famous that he always seemed like an old man to me, watching it back I realise he was not as old as I thought. His songs just really nail it don't they.

Whitney168 · 21/01/2022 08:50

Superb music, and one of the best live acts I've ever seen - huge stage presence.

RIP - Bat Out Of Hell surely must be one of the best albums ever, spanning many generations.

notacooldad · 21/01/2022 08:50

Most people seem to associate Meatloaf with Bat out of hell or Rocky Horror.
However this song has been my favourite my favourite since High School. I love his vocals on this.

Neversaygoodbye · 21/01/2022 08:51

24th May 1990 first date with my husband & the pub music was Two Out of Three Ain't Bad. 31 years later & we're still together, luckily he did and does still live me. Meatloaf was a big part of my childhood, we were a family who loved rock music and I still play his albums.

blackberriesaretheonlyfruit · 21/01/2022 08:53

We went to see him several times he always put on a great show.

BoredZelda · 21/01/2022 08:54

It’s sad but I wouldn’t say 74 is young.

My mum is 74. I wouldn’t consider her old.

Bat out of hell was the soundtrack of one of my early relationships. I was vaguely aware of the title track before that but not those whole album. I fell in love with Meatloaf (but not the guy who introduced me to the music!) I still love it today. Saw a concert in the 90s when arguably he was past his peak, it still remains one of the best shows I’ve ever seen.

AllTheWeetabix · 21/01/2022 08:58

So young? Confused

Imissmoominmama · 21/01/2022 08:58

I lost my virginity, in my boyfriend’s car to the soundtrack of Bat Out of Hell.

My first husband told me he loved me by singing ‘three out of three’ (also in a car!).

His music is epic.

RIP Meatloaf.

Tereseta · 21/01/2022 08:59

Gutted to wake up to this news. Listened to him through teenage years and recently have rediscovered his music working from home. Missed a few calls with singing along to bat out of hell loudly!

MermaidEyes · 21/01/2022 09:00

@Tinacollada

I want to go to the bar out of hell 🤣

Me too! Maybe they play Meatloaf while the devil serves you vodka shots!

BillGigolo · 21/01/2022 09:01

Two out of three ain’t bad is a gorgeous song.

Bless him, he always seemed a good guy and what a voice.

Tilltheend99 · 21/01/2022 09:02

@roses2

Did anyone find out what that thing he wouldn't do for love was?
In the extended version of ‘I would do anything for love’ Lorraine Crosby says “sooner or later you’ll be screwing around” to which Meat Loaf replies “well I won’t do that”

Sad news, rip the legend. He was also a talented actor with an eye for good film parts.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/01/2022 09:02

Awww :( that is sad.
