How Often Do You Go Out For Sunday Roast?

I can’t remember the last time yet I love going out for a carvery. Great for someone else to do all the work! There’s a pub near where my brother in law lives in Nottingham which does a fantastic carvery. I have never seen so many vegetable dishes! Our local Premier Inn’s roast is supposed to be good. Beef, turkey or gammon for £8.99 & you can have bottomless Yorkshires, roast potatoes & gravy too.

I haven't been for a long time. Now I want one.

Jsgdud · 16/01/2022 08:02

Literally a handful of times ever and not for years! It's one of those meals I'd never usually pick from a menu as find it a bit boring and a waste of money if eating out I'd rather get something different. I do cook one most Sundays though if we are all in.

About 8years- not a huge roast fan and the nearest pub to us that does them charges £17-£20

Once a month but I go somewhere really nice, like £30 a head nice.

I don't go out a lot and am a bit of a foodie.

AuntieMarys · 16/01/2022 08:03

About every 6 weeks...I never cook one at home. About £14 here for a good one.

Forshorttheycallmecomp · 16/01/2022 08:03

On holiday in Cornwall, as there’s a pub on Maughan Pawth beach that does a fabulous carvery.

But haven’t been there for years. For a little while it was an annual event ;)

Itonlytakesonetree · 16/01/2022 08:04

Years ago. I don't mind eating alone in restaurants at all, but Sunday lunch is one of those meals it would feel a bit sad to go alone, as it is often a family oriented event.

CurryLover55 · 16/01/2022 08:06

forshorttheycallmecomp what pub is that?

Very rarely as my roasts are legendary (boastful but true) and I resent paying £18-£20 for something that isn’t as good as the one I make.

DillDanding · 16/01/2022 08:07

We did over Christmas. I didn’t have a roast as I’m not a massive fan but the rest of the family did. It was £17 per head and they all said it was vastly inferior to my husband’s.

Pegasussnail · 16/01/2022 08:08

Rarely go out for one but sometimes we bring a plate and get a dinner to a local hotel to bring home (13 a head)

Mumdiva99 · 16/01/2022 08:08

Almost never. Occasionally before covid we occasionally went to the Toby with the inlaws.
Last time we went out for a 'Naice' roast in a local pub with them as a birthday treat it cost £25 per head for adults....and we got 3 roast potatoes each. The meat was lovely....but added together a total bill of £150 for us all - 4 adults and 3 kids....and we just decided not to pay again. We can get a lovely joint for less and have as many roasties as we want.

We have though sent a take away roast around to the inlaws when we couldn't go down to see them and the restaurants weren't open or they didn't want to sit in a restaurant. They can't cook one now due to their age....so a nice treat for them.

(For anyone wanting a roast sign up to the Toby Web site because they keep sending out half price vouchers).

Same, I've yet to have one that's as good as my own. We eat out a lot but rarely on a Sunday.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 16/01/2022 08:10

I’m usually disappointed by pub roasts so order something else. However our local pub used to do an amazing butternut squash and Stilton pie as their veggie alternative on a Sunday and I did love that although I’m not a veggie.

Roselilly36 · 16/01/2022 08:11

We never go out for Sunday roast, as they are usually disappointing, DH cooks an awesome roast dinner most Sundays.

WildFlowerBees · 16/01/2022 08:14

Not often, not really a roast person I see people recommending Toby Carvery and the like but it all looks so disgusting.

We have several pubs around that do a really good roast with good quality food not piled high like some £9.99 jobs.

If I'm going for a roast I'm going somewhere really good!

icklekid · 16/01/2022 08:14

We don’t really ever, I might have been with friends when visiting before a few years ago but certainly isn’t something we do. My dh and I have started cooking a roast most weekends but mainly because it’s a meal the kids enjoy. That wasn’t part of either of us growing up but we do like it noe

MinnieMountain · 16/01/2022 08:16

A cafe in a park near us does them. I’m tempted to try it for the novelty. I’ve probably only gone out for a roast 4 times in my life.

toomuchfaster · 16/01/2022 08:16

We used to about once a month when me and DH both worked full time. Then I dropped my hours and started cooking a roast most Sundays then couldn't be arsed with all the washing up so we haven't had a roast for months. The last time we ate one out was Easter 2021, well we picked up a take away one on a mad dash day-trip to visit my DPs while remaining in the lock down rules.

ilovebagpuss · 16/01/2022 08:29

Hardly ever as my parents were always of the “oh you can do this at home so much better for 3.58” or whatever and they were usually right. However we did find a local pub that does a proper nice carvery for around £10/11 and even my DF approves.
It’s still a birthday event though not a regular Sunday thing.

TimBoothseyes · 16/01/2022 08:33

I never have.

GoodnightGrandma · 16/01/2022 08:34

Never.

Divebar2021 · 16/01/2022 08:38

Pre Covid and the quality was not good… the kind of roast potatoes you buy frozen. There’s no way I’d want a £8.99 roast unless I was a student or otherwise on my uppers. How good is the quality likely to be?

Enzbear · 16/01/2022 08:39

About once a month but we're really fussy- the meat has to be spot on, veg cooked to perfection and so many places can't do cauliflower cheese to save their lives.

BarbaraofSeville · 16/01/2022 08:40

Only time I go out for a roast is I sometimes have a chain carvery lunch from Toby or the 'farms' chain while out for work.

It's fine and reliably quick and one of the few relatively healthy hot options out on the road as I mostly have meat and vegetables and not have the Yorkshire pudding and stuffing.
