How Often Do You Go Out For Sunday Roast?

I can’t remember the last time yet I love going out for a carvery. Great for someone else to do all the work! There’s a pub near where my brother in law lives in Nottingham which does a fantastic carvery. I have never seen so many vegetable dishes! Our local Premier Inn’s roast is supposed to be good. Beef, turkey or gammon for £8.99 & you can have bottomless Yorkshires, roast potatoes & gravy too.

never
i cook a great roast
as does ds - who is providing one today

PrisonerofZeroCovid · 16/01/2022 08:44

There’s a sports club near us that does a great one. Probably have it every other week as we’re up there for rugby training. Roast potatoes never work with mass catering but everything else is good.

Once every other month. Because I loathe cooking and have two under three and my husband can't even boil an egg, so it's the only chance I get to eat a big fresh meal that isn't out of a packet!

Very rarely. I dislike carveries though. I used to work in one and my overriding memory is of my mustard stained blouse and smelling of mint sauce.

megletthesecond · 16/01/2022 08:48

Never as a kid. Mum usually cooked one.

Never as an adult.

whenwillthemadnessend · 16/01/2022 08:48

Only special occasions. My friends husband runs a pub that is the best roast EVER. This is not a lie. So we go there but it's an hour drive so has to be worth it

TheChosenTwo · 16/01/2022 08:53

Hardly ever. They are almost always inferior to a home cooked roast. We would never go out for Sunday roast just the 5 of us, but would if it was a wider family occasion and we were all invited to a Sunday lunch at the pub type thing. We go out to eat a lot, sometimes on a Sunday, maybe 1 out of the 5 of us would order a pub/restaurant roast.
Much prefer one cooked properly at home, if we’re home on Sundays we always have a roast.

Blinkingbatshit · 16/01/2022 08:53

We never go out for a roast - the cost is 😱 and I can cook a really good one myself….but to be fair we rarely go out for any meal!

Ninkanink · 16/01/2022 08:54

Never, these days. Actually I tell a lie! We went to see my daughter at university several years ago and took her out for a Sunday roast. As pp have said, I don’t like paying for something that’s inferior to what I/we make at home.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 16/01/2022 08:54

the pub up the road does do a great one but i balk at the price - and i have been once or twice over the last 10 years

HollyBollyBooBoo · 16/01/2022 08:55

Never! Mine always taste better.

Policyschmolicy · 16/01/2022 08:56

Never. Love getting a roast when it’s on in the work canteen, but I’d never take the whole family out for a car very.

YouWereGr8InLittleMenstruators · 16/01/2022 08:56

Literally never.
I see this Venn diagram emerging of the merest intersection between "people who enjoy MN" and "people who enjoy going out for carvery".

Ninkanink · 16/01/2022 08:57

Oops I told two lies!! We went out with wider family once a couple of years ago too. But it’s not a thing we do, just us, ever.

Backofthebus · 16/01/2022 09:01

Now there's only two of us on a Sunday I prefer a posh roast out. I find that you can't get the flavour of a decent sized joint with a small one iyswim.

I had the most perfect roast out a couple of weeks ago, rib of beef, Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and parsnips, cauliflower and leeks in a blue cheese sauce/bake, Savoy cabbage, cavalo Nero, green beans and baby carrots - everything cooked to absolute perfection in an upmarket gastro pub. Gorgeous .... but £29 a head for two courses.

Really superior food, all but all locally/home grown etc, even the cheese from a local creamery.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/01/2022 09:04

Never really. I'm not a big fan of roast dinner so if I go out to eat I'd rather get something else.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 16/01/2022 09:07

Not as a family but I meet up with friends for a roast a few times a year. Im quite a lot of the pubs round here (SE London) they do really good roasts. They are on the pricier side, usually £20 pp but really good meat.

I'd take the kids but they are not massive fans of roasts so it's not the best use of money.

Ifailed · 16/01/2022 09:08

It's fine if you like food delivered by a 3663 lorry.

MondeoFan · 16/01/2022 09:09

October with family. Toby Carvery. We booked a table for 5pm. By time we got there, there were several items missing from the menu.
The meat was also very fatty. I didn't enjoy it.
I'm going to take my brother out for a roast soon though at a pub near him that has amazing reviews

inappropriateraspberry · 16/01/2022 09:09

Never. Carveries are disgusting. We can cook a roast at home for cheaper and will be a lot nicer!

ChurchlightJane · 16/01/2022 09:09

OP the pub at Mawgan Porth is called The Merrymoor.

Queenoftheashes · 16/01/2022 09:10

Once a month or more. I like Hawksmoor.

onlychildhamster · 16/01/2022 09:11

Does anyone know a good roast in London? I don't have it very often cos I have to travel to this place in amersham and it takes a long time..plus the high street is 20 minutes away from the tube station so it's a long journey all in all...

So yes I hardly have it as it's such a faff. But that is the best one I know...

bruffin · 16/01/2022 09:11

Mumsnet at its worst

onlychildhamster · 16/01/2022 09:12

@bruffin why? What's wrong with roast?
