How Often Do You Go Out For Sunday Roast?

I can’t remember the last time yet I love going out for a carvery. Great for someone else to do all the work! There’s a pub near where my brother in law lives in Nottingham which does a fantastic carvery. I have never seen so many vegetable dishes! Our local Premier Inn’s roast is supposed to be good. Beef, turkey or gammon for £8.99 & you can have bottomless Yorkshires, roast potatoes & gravy too.

We used to go out for long boozy roasts quite regularly pre-children, but what kid want to sit there watching while their parents polish off a couple of bottles of red 😂 Maybe that's why most people on this thread don't go for roast this often as the Mumsnet demographic is not on the whole the Sunday pub lunch crowd.

Ahh how I miss those days, a lazy morning drinking coffee and reading the Sunday magazines, then a wander on Hampstead Heath finishing up at a pub where we would spend the rest of the day/evening..

Never, I make one every Sunday. Dh works on a Sunday and I have it down to putting it on the table just in time for him walking in the door.
My kids love a roast it's the best way to get plenty of veg into them, I alternate between chicken, pork and Ham and at least 3 veg not including potatoes and the remaining meat get put in the fridge for the dog during the week.
If we go out none of us would order a roast

Almost never, and we don't have them regularly at home, but I do love a roast dinner. Think I'll suggest to DP that we try a few places. Our rowing club does them and we went a few months ago, the food was delicious but it was noisy, and not very comfortable.

I do a roast most Sundays, and there is no pub or restaurant on the planet that does roasts as good as mine! 🤷‍♀️

itispersonal · 16/01/2022 19:25

Not since I was a child.

My dp makes a lovely Sunday roast and pubs just can't compete.

If I went out on the Sunday it isn't the meal I would pick off the menu.

Literally never

DearZoom · 16/01/2022 19:39

@Oldraver
Crikey at some if the prices for a roast. My local charges £18 for beef and £20 for lamb
I think you live near I used to (n19? Maybe I’m totally wrong though!) I’ve a few meet ups planned there. Where do you recommend?

Ninkanink · 16/01/2022 19:52

@lololololollll if you say so. Hmm

In other news, we’ve just finished dinner and it was fantastic! Enough meat, stuffing and homemade apple sauce left over for pork sandwiches tomorrow! Grin Plus potatoes left over which I’ll use for a hash for lunch for DH. Not bad for about £8 (if that).

CMOTDibbler · 16/01/2022 19:57

We used to do it every few months, but haven't been since COVID. TBF, we're not very fussed on a roast anyway and only do it at home a couple of times a year

weegiemum · 16/01/2022 20:02

Used to where we used to live when kids were small.

If we go out at the weekend now, we go for tapas!

Longdistance · 16/01/2022 20:08

I haven’t been for a roast in a while. I only really like my own Blush
I always find the meat is dry.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 16/01/2022 20:12

Rarely go to the same place twice tbf, but we probably do it every couple of months?
There is one little pub in a neighbouring village that does an amazing roast and it's about £10 a head. I've been with DH and DS and then took my DM and then MIL. It's one of the best out-of-the-house roasts I've ever had.

Juanbablo · 16/01/2022 20:14

Never. Because a Sunday roast out is never as good as it is at home. Or at least I've not found one yet. And it's expensive.

Comedycook · 16/01/2022 20:26

I think roasts are like fry ups... everyone has their own way of doing it and thinks their way is the best.

Phantom1 · 16/01/2022 20:34

Never. It's easy enough to do at home. So I prefer to have something that I can't do as well at home or something entirely different from home cooking.

SeedsForDeeds · 17/01/2022 21:04

And none of us is wrong.
