Another Bloody Downing Street party

JustJam4Tea · 10/01/2022 21:51

So hours after telling us to only meet one other person outside from a different household 100 invited to Downing Street BYO in the garden.

It was unlawful to mix outside. If my employer had invited 100 staff to a garden party we’d have all been arrested.

DP had his diagnosis of terminal cancer alone in August 2020.

DF died from bowel cancer in July 2020. I saw him twice. Luckily his room in the hospice had patio doors and the nurses used to wheel his bed there so we could see him.

What will it take to get rid of this shower of shite?

They have utter contempt for the British electorate.

Saucery · 11/01/2022 17:12

Tbf, much as I dislike AR, she was very measured and to the point on Ch4 News about it last night.

OldaRailer · 11/01/2022 17:14

Angela Raynor is doing okay on this.
A bit of righteous anger wouldn't play too badly to a large part of the public imo.

BringMeTea · 11/01/2022 17:21

Yes, Angela feels right with this. I too believe there will be no real (immediate) consequences for Johnson. Sickening group of people.

AlexaShutUp · 11/01/2022 17:23

Johnson's tried and tested strategy in these situations seems to be to stick his fingers in his ears and sing lalala until it all goes away again.

Only time will tell whether it will carry on working for him.

merrymouse · 11/01/2022 17:26

feellikeanalien I wish I could do more than send you emoji Flowers.

There is so, so much pain.

Notonthestairs · 11/01/2022 17:26

I'm assuming that Boris will need to announce something to divert the papers & the frothy CRG types - so the isolation period will be reduced and free tests dropped. Et voila they'll leave him alone until they want something else.

tsmainsqueeze · 11/01/2022 17:29

@kittensinthekitchen

My oldest friend was 37 when she lay dying in hospital. Her partner got to say goodbye just before she passed. Her three young children did not. I never got to say goodbye, and there was no funeral service.

Meanwhile, the government are having drinks parties, because they've been having an "incredibly busy period"?

Get. Them. Out.

Your post has made me cry , so very sad , and that poor mother and her family who could not be with their dying child . So many heartbreaking stories . The government's behaviour is unforgivable , how dare they treat us with such utter contempt .
ancientgran · 11/01/2022 17:33

@BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation

Sir Kier Starmer is currently in isolation with covid and letting Angela Raynor have a go at them instead.

Oh, wow, what could possibly go wrong there?

I didn't know covid affected someone's ability to speak. Couldn't he send a message out or something?

Ye gods, what a shower of shit they all are.

You realise it is a respiratory infection? People struggle to breathe, they cough. Obviously while all that is going on they can give a rousing speech.
SerendipityJane · 11/01/2022 17:35

The dare because they can and know nothing will happen.

As long as people exist who proudly announce to the world that they "always vote this" and "would never vote for that", politicians know who they can treat with contempt - the people whose votes they don't need to buy.

Or, to reverse it ... if I knew you were going to vote for me regardless, then why in the name of all that is holy would I waste a moment of my precious time on you.

Now if I needed your vote, and you would only vote for me if I actually did what I said, it would be a different story.

I will certainly be interested - if I live that long - to see what happens to all those freshly-minted Tory MPs in former labour seats when the voters realise they've been had.

Don't be perverse, he could send out a statement Hmm

He could do a zoom call with journalists if he wants to make some effort. He is spineless as well.

You said, "I didn't know covid affected someone's ability to speak." I was pointing out what was probably obvious to most people.

SerendipityJane · 11/01/2022 17:46

And Lo ! Despite this shitshow, it somehow transpires it's Labours fault.

Maybe Britain did start WW2 after all ?

BellaChagall · 11/01/2022 17:53

One of the worst things about this for me is the timing. Now that we're learning to live with covid and have vaccinations, we are getting used to socialising again. But in May 2020, pre vaccines and testing, most people I know were terrified of getting covid or of passing it on to vulnerable people. People were avoiding supermarkets if possible and many were doing things like disinfecting shopping. It was a different time.

Yet these people were socialising as if covid didn't exist while we were all doing our best to keep others safe.

The thing that's making me most angry is Johnson's refusal to say whether he was at the party or not. He just needs to be honest and apologise.

He has a lot at stake. I have no doubt that if he is no longer PM and leaves under a cloud that his marriage will be at stake.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 11/01/2022 17:53

Nobody's saying that. Labour are in opposition, so they should hold the govt to account which they don't appear to be doing. Starmer is a weak leader and doesn't have it in him to effectively back the govt into a corner. He should be absolutely shredding them over this. Where's the fire in his belly? Where's the rousing speeches? (Oh sorry, I forgot, he can't speak Hmm)

The man's wetter than a wet weekend in Blackpool.

SpindleyCrow · 11/01/2022 17:56

The stand out piece of righteous anger for me today, watching PMQs live, was delivered by (Dame) Angela Eagle (Labour). And Jim Shannon (DUP) - well, there's man showing grief writ large. Angela Rayner kept her cool and was a good anchor today. Emily Thornberry was articulate on Newsnight (I think it was) last night.

If Labour would just ditch the dodgy clap-trap of gender-woo, I'd campaign for them myself. Why they have so fully embraced this dangerous Momentum ideology I do not know. It's not like they haven't been told.

DuncinToffee · 11/01/2022 17:57

Labour called thr Urgent Question today, PM and majority of Tory MPs were absent.
Labour party also released a statement.

Florianus · 11/01/2022 17:57

So whilst the government was putting the fear of God in us about leaving the house, they were throwing parties.

There has not been any suggestion that the Downing Street parties were thrown by government. They were thrown by the civil service.

Notonthestairs · 11/01/2022 17:58

@SpindleyCrow agree with your post.

the80sweregreat · 11/01/2022 17:58

Honestly Bella, who cares about his marriage?
I agreed with your post right up to that part.
He won't be honest , either , because if he admits that he did let them into the garden for a do and actually went to it as well he really would be toast.
At the moment the is trying to find a loophole or four to stop him having to fess up. As he always does.

SerendipityJane · 11/01/2022 17:58

And Jim Shannon (DUP) - well, there's man showing grief writ large.

I didn't realise there were 2 DUPs in parliament. What party is he from ?

BellaChagall · 11/01/2022 17:59

The80sweregreat i don't care about his marriage. Any consequences are of his own making. It was just an observation.
