Another Bloody Downing Street party

JustJam4Tea · 10/01/2022 21:51

So hours after telling us to only meet one other person outside from a different household 100 invited to Downing Street BYO in the garden.

It was unlawful to mix outside. If my employer had invited 100 staff to a garden party we’d have all been arrested.

I think Starmer is deploying the right strategy. Basically stand back and the conservatives deal with their own mess. Given the tendency for the Conservatives to blame everything on the Labour government of decade ago, Jeremy Corbyn and remainers, I think the political equivalent of "grey rock" is absolutely the way to go.
I'm really impressed he's sorted out the in fighting and got a shadow cabinet reflecting the spectrum of labour, working together on a shared party line.
Plus he has integrity.
I'd vote for him tomorrow as an effective leader is more important to me than someone with media charismatic.

@DuncinToffee

I saw that longwayoff

'These rules were very hard for people to obey'

@JacobReesMogg suggests the Covid inquiry may find that coronavirus laws were 'too hard on people' after being asked about @BorisJohnson's behaviour

ITV News Politics

Presumably all fines will be refunded, and criminal records erased then ?
Hearwego · 13/01/2022 12:30

The thing is Patel , Gove and Raab are all yes people. They’ll be loyal to Boris as he gives them cabinet jobs.
Raab and Patel are both ineffective and promoted above their abilities.
Gove is actually intelligent if nothing else, shame he won’t speak out...

Hearwego · 13/01/2022 12:31

To think that anyone fined during covid should be reimbursed and have any criminal record quashed...??

Hearwego · 13/01/2022 12:33

It just goes to show how the elite look out for themselves...
Prince Andrew and Boris, all cut from the same cloth. Teflon aren’t they?...

Notonthestairs · 13/01/2022 12:35

Oh look an announcement to reduce the isolation period. Handy diversion from polls and infighting and a decent sop to the CRG.

Honestly I welcome with open arms the end of this awful, wretched period in our lives.

But I won't forget the lies.

VikingOnTheFridge · 13/01/2022 12:36

@longwayoff

Rees-Mogg latest 'if BJ is found to have broken the rules, then the rules are wrong'. Not remotely scummy
If only JRM were a Cabinet minister and in a position to actually do something about it!
Peregrina · 13/01/2022 12:36

I think Johnson when he finally goes will take down Raab, Patel and Truss with him.

Sunak and Gove I think will make sure they are out of the way.

Bad news for Johnson, off to Lancashire he pops

Before this thread is full, where is the follow on please?

Hearwego · 13/01/2022 12:52

Yes need another thread...

Peregrina · 13/01/2022 13:36

The question for me is: Has he got away with it?

jgw1 · 13/01/2022 13:37

Did he get away with protecting Paterson's corruption?
jgw1 · 13/01/2022 13:43

@jgw1

I have used my initiative and created a new thread entitled. "Another fabulous Downing Street party thread" ready for when this one is full up.
Peregrina · 13/01/2022 13:46

No, he didn't get away with Paterson's corruption, but at present the only two by-elections are for David Amess's old seat, where the major parties aren't standing, and then for Jack Dromey's.

Amess's seat has what looks like a rag tag of right wingers standing, but no real candidate to take the seat from the Tory candidate. Dromey's seat - a good result for Labour there would make the Tories uncomfortable but not affect the majority.

longwayoff · 13/01/2022 13:46

Thanks jgw1

So my answer to your question is that he did not get away with having the party, because he had to apologise for it in the House of Commons which he visibly hated doing.
And he hasn't got away with the apology given everyone is still talking about it. The opinion polls indicate that he is not getting away with his lying as much as he once did and that the mud is sticking.
Here's hoping the mud doesn't drop off before the next election.
Hearwego · 13/01/2022 14:06

So it’s one Xmas party and two garden parties so far, all in 2020.
Am I right so far?

Hearwego · 13/01/2022 14:06

Sorry, work gatherings not parties !

OhWhyNot · 13/01/2022 14:09

I think the issues now is that if another party is announced it’s not going to cause such an impact

There needs to be something else on Johnson at the moment I think he is safe for a while more to do with who will take his place to keep a huge majority and Labour isn’t such a treat to the Tories

the80sweregreat · 13/01/2022 14:13

What else has anyone on him though?
If anyone does, they are taking their time showing their hand, it's been months since that last photo was released!
I read today that nobody will see him for weeks now because of covid ( a close contact has it apparently)

Notonthestairs · 13/01/2022 14:13

I think 7 parties total including 1 for department of education and one for transport (they have been acknowledged and apologised for pre Christmas). Don't think PM attended all of them!

My predictions are that it will fall quiet for a bit whilst any internal issues are smoothed out, the investigation will be simply a series of statements without much context or detail. Report will be forwarded to the met who will decide no further action required.

And then another party will be uncovered.

Last I saw on sky news was eleven separate events overall, some parties, some gatherings.
jgw1 · 13/01/2022 14:19

It is little wonder he doesn't have time to govern the countries if he has to keep going to all these parties.
