What's the nicest thing you've eaten lately?

I haven't been able to taste or smell anything for the best part of a month due to Covid and my taste has returned. I know that's no time at all in comparison to some poor people but it was a pain and especially disappointing at Christmas.

I've just had some Whitaker's Ginger creams and OMG, they're amazing. Cheap too. Perhaps it's because I've just got my taste back or because I love anything with ginger but they're so good. No this isn't an advert for them.

What other delights should I try now that my tastebuds are working again?

I’m pregnant and obsessed with food at the moment . Recent highlights I’ve made have been a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich with Hellman’s. I also love mature cheddar or mozzarella with chilli jam spread on top!

AnneLovesGilbert · 07/01/2022 11:52

Roast squash, cauliflower, parsnips and carrots with creamy mustard mushrooms on toast. It was a bit random in its conception but stunning on the plate.

EileenGC · 07/01/2022 11:54

Avocado maki at my favourite restaurant. I don’t often get it there, it’s very simple and ‘basic’ and I can get it much cheaper from the supermarket. But my goodness, was it delicious and so, so fresh.

theNumbersStation · 07/01/2022 11:55

A little box of blue cheese from Marks and Spencer.

Bleu D’Affinois.

On a cracker with a tiny blob of chilli jam.

It is £4 ish I think but worth it. I’m getting more. 🐽

theNumbersStation · 07/01/2022 11:58

And butterscotch angel delight.

For that is the food of the gods 😉

danni0509 · 07/01/2022 11:58

Dirty fries from M&S. Delicious!

Yesthatscorrect · 07/01/2022 11:59

We had loads of cheese leftover and had also made a ham joint in maple syrup so I made ham, leek, cheese and mushroom turnovers from the BBC site. Served with chips and cauliflower cheese. Unreal!

catelina · 07/01/2022 12:06

A cheese soufflé in a very nice pub. It was divine.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 07/01/2022 12:08

A cinnamon bun from Gail’s. I’ve just been past and bought another three.

JustMaggie · 07/01/2022 12:08

At Christmas we had deep fried Brussels sprouts. They were so crispy and yummy! I'm never going back to boiled again

itwasntaparty · 07/01/2022 12:23

A big bowl of beef pho from the local Vietnamese - such a lovely fresh tasty change from all the Christmas fodder.

Lacedwithgrace · 07/01/2022 12:37

Cheese toastie with sweet chili sauce.

Sundried tomatoes and mushrooms on cream cheese on toasted sourdough

Asda spicy sausage tortelloni

ZeroFuchsGiven · 07/01/2022 12:42

I have just discovered Garners pickled red onions in blueberry white whine vinegar They are AMAZING. I am a huge fan of pickled onions anyway but these are something else.

Either straight out the jar with a fork (my preference) or with Strong cheese and crackers, either work!

polkadotpjs · 07/01/2022 12:57

I'm a bit meh about food but reading for inspiration and may buy a toastie maker!
I did have a nice snack of Aldi brown rice cakes with Philadelphia but it's not world beating

AngelsWithSilverWings · 07/01/2022 13:08

Yesterday I wanted to make sausages braised in red wine but only had posh red wine so couldn't justify using it for cooking.

Decided to use a bottle of cheap leftover mulled wine from Asda instead and the result was amazing - even the kids commented on how it tasted so much better than usual.

I think the combination of the smoked streaky bacon I use to make the sauce and the sweetness of the wine made it taste special. Best thing I've tasted in ages.

The other thing I had that really delighted my taste buds the other day was some baclava from Aldi.

Wildrobin · 07/01/2022 13:08

I’m quite partial to a bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon, too

theNumbersStation · 07/01/2022 13:23

Gwan then angels

How did you make it please? I’ve an errant bottle of mulled wine that needs using 🙂

Tal45 · 07/01/2022 13:25

Belazu Truffle and pecorino nut mix - pricey, from Waitrose but I'm addicted. Never tasted anything quite like them.

Chelsea26 · 07/01/2022 13:28

We’re isolating at the moment and were out of groceries last night so with what we had in the fridge I made a potato bake with bacon and Boursin and it was bloody lovely!

Will be making it on purpose from now on…

HelloBunny · 07/01/2022 13:30

Jar of Chocolate Truffle Sauce (not really sauce, if eaten cold) from M&S.
Didn’t use it at Christmas, but I have spoon when I want a hit of sweetness!

MadisonAvenue · 07/01/2022 13:30

A Holland’s steak and kidney pudding that I’ve just had for my lunch.

HelloBunny · 07/01/2022 13:31

Deluxe Macarons from Lidl. As good as any from a posh specialist shop.

Cornisharchitect · 07/01/2022 13:31

Cornish clotted cream and saffron bun ice cream 🍦

LaBelleSausage · 07/01/2022 13:36

The 'Cook' sweet potato katsu curry.

I'm on a diet/recovering from covid/doing veganuary so maybe I've just had a few days of everything tasting of cardboard but it was So Good.

Got it in a local garden centre. Will be back when I'm allowed back out!!
