What's the nicest thing you've eaten lately?

I haven't been able to taste or smell anything for the best part of a month due to Covid and my taste has returned. I know that's no time at all in comparison to some poor people but it was a pain and especially disappointing at Christmas.

I've just had some Whitaker's Ginger creams and OMG, they're amazing. Cheap too. Perhaps it's because I've just got my taste back or because I love anything with ginger but they're so good. No this isn't an advert for them.

What other delights should I try now that my tastebuds are working again?

Pumpkin pie

CurryLover55 · 07/01/2022 20:21

Extra mature cheese on toast with tuna mayo on the side. I didn’t have much of an appetite but that went down very well!

@ZeroFuchsGiven

I have just discovered Garners pickled red onions in blueberry white whine vinegar They are AMAZING. I am a huge fan of pickled onions anyway but these are something else.

Either straight out the jar with a fork (my preference) or with Strong cheese and crackers, either work!

Yes! I’ve just discover these too, they’re something else. M&S alsodo some put they are chilli in the vinegar and it’s quite hot, so you can’t eat as many. Delicious with seeded Rivera thins, spread with cream cheese, then sliced cherry tomatoes, salt, pepper and topped with onions. Divine!

Made this for tea yesterday, amazing.
Could have eaten the sauce all day long.

It's just bread BUT if you're anywhere near a Waitrose, I can recommend Jason's Sourdough Bloomer. Toasted with real butter, tastes like bread used to taste. I can't go back.

@DrPhilYourGuts

Torres Black Truffle crisps (ideally washed down with champagne), expensive but so worth it.

Also made a vegetable lasagne for the first time in ages. Bloody love lasagne.

Those crisps are unbelievably delicious, outrageously tasty. Champagne is a great pairing @DrPhilYourGuts a favourite combo of mine.
ponkydonkey · 07/01/2022 20:34

I know this will sound weird
But have you tried frazzles ? They are crisps and zero need my taste buds into a frenzy! Basically all I ate for 3 days that and ham on fresh white bread 😬

ponkydonkey · 07/01/2022 20:36

Ooh actually just read the entire thread!

Salt seems to be the common denominator here!

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 07/01/2022 20:36

We’ve just had Turner’s pies. Steak and ale this time. I love a Turner’s pie.

Kleptronic · 07/01/2022 20:40

I just made stilton, broccoli and cauliflower soup and it was epic.

Crimpnwave · 07/01/2022 20:42

Goats cheese and roasted red pepper empanada. I went back for another later that day and they were sold out. I was so disappointed.

furbabymama87 · 07/01/2022 20:46

Pineapple and almond cheese ring. Think the brand name is Castello. It's like a dessert, it's so sweet and yummy.

JealousOfDDsOodie · 07/01/2022 20:51

Thai green curry, with some veggie spring rolls with a couple of dipping sauces (satay and sweet chilli).

2bazookas · 07/01/2022 21:03

I'd been watching Mary Berry's series on TV, tried her recipes, bought the book "Love to cook" and am working my way through it. ALL her recipes work, are delicious. and easy.
Lunchtime today I did a Nigel Slater one; pasta with sausage cooked with cream, mustard, basil and wine. Yummy (and cheap).

Vampirethriller · 08/01/2022 13:35

Not food, but I've just melted a hot chocolate bomb in a cup of coffee and it was bloody marvellous.

CurryLover55 · 22/01/2022 18:26

Angelswithsilverwings is that fresh or dried thyme? The recipe sounds amazing!

CurryLover55 · 22/01/2022 18:34

MrsPnut butter & pâté?! I never put butter on!

Thelazygoat · 22/01/2022 18:45

My DH presented me with a microwaveable sticky toffee pudding that he then poured hazelnut yoghurt over. It was amazing.

MrsPnut · 22/01/2022 21:53

@CurryLover55

MrsPnut butter & pâté?! I never put butter on!
But I like it, slathering on the sea salt crystal butter with gay abandon. Topped off with more fat and calories in the pate.
CheeseMmmm · 22/01/2022 21:55

Lazy roast. Chicken needed eating. Albert Bartlett fat chips, veg, plenty juice for great gravy. Lush.

MsAnnFrope · 22/01/2022 22:12

We had some dim sum last night, the char siu buns were a religious experience!

Lookingoutside · 22/01/2022 22:14

M&S Ragu (the one in the box) with chips and a bread cake ☺️

SilverOtter · 22/01/2022 22:21

I made some homemade custard creams, and oh my god they were the most delicious things I'd ever tasted🤤

Eightisgreat · 22/01/2022 23:25

I recently bought some creamed mushrooms, absolutely delicious.
Served with toasted bread.

CurryLover55 · 23/01/2022 18:07

Love creamed mushrooms. But why not just say toast instead of toasted bread?
