What's the nicest thing you've eaten lately?

I haven't been able to taste or smell anything for the best part of a month due to Covid and my taste has returned. I know that's no time at all in comparison to some poor people but it was a pain and especially disappointing at Christmas.

I've just had some Whitaker's Ginger creams and OMG, they're amazing. Cheap too. Perhaps it's because I've just got my taste back or because I love anything with ginger but they're so good. No this isn't an advert for them.

What other delights should I try now that my tastebuds are working again?

@Cornisharchitect

Cornish clotted cream and saffron bun ice cream.

Whaaaaaaaat?! Where from?

OP I’ve had M&S sushi Dragon roll and their blonde chocolate florentines.

A cheese and onion toastie from the recently dusted-off Breville.

JasmineGarden · 07/01/2022 14:02

Glad you're getting your taste back! My friend lost his in an accident 30 years ago and it's never come back. He can barely sense sweet v savoury. It's possibly why he's such a grumpy fucker 🤣

Unfortunately you probably can't get them
Now, but the nicest thing I've had lately is Tesco Finest Crumbled mince pies with cognac, brandy & Port. I'm not a big fan of mince pies, but these were GOOD!

DH made some homemade mushroom ravioli the other day. He was cursing because they took way longer to make than expected but they were divine.

CeleriacOfTheNight · 07/01/2022 14:08

I'm usually a bit of a foodie but after 5 days of nothing to eat (thanks covid), I recently inhaled a tin of Heinz Chicken soup and it was divine

CeleriacOfTheNight · 07/01/2022 14:09

I don't mean I wouldn't have normally eaten the soup btw, I just mean I'd usually find something a bit more special to rave about Grin

baggies · 07/01/2022 14:11

M&S chipotle coleslaw!

DrPhilYourGuts · 07/01/2022 14:18

Torres Black Truffle crisps (ideally washed down with champagne), expensive but so worth it.

Also made a vegetable lasagne for the first time in ages. Bloody love lasagne.

KurtWilde · 07/01/2022 14:19

I'm still marvelling over my pigs in blankets, I've made them 4 times since Christmas and they still haven't t lost their appeal.

Also did a baked Camembert last night and made a rosemary and thyme crusty plait from scratch to go with. Mmmm.. I'll be doing that again.

anewdispensation · 07/01/2022 14:20

I've just been shopping and bought a pack of twirls. Waiting in the car outside dc's school and I've just scoffed 2 fingers. They cold and tasted delicious.

Isseywith3witchycats · 07/01/2022 15:08

Blue dragon sate dip with chicken goujons it was lush

Sunsetsupernova · 07/01/2022 15:13

M&S truffle mayonnaise with chip shop chips dipped into it

I also really enjoyed this Jamie Oliver garlic bread

Giggorata · 07/01/2022 15:16

A really creamy and cheesy macaroni cheese, using up going out of date milk, Brie, cheddar and grilled bacon cut into tiny bits.
Instead of doing a cheese sauce, I boiled the macaron in milk and added the other stuff once it was ready. I won't be doing it in the oven in future.

Eileen101 · 07/01/2022 15:17

DH made a vegan chocolate cheesecake as we have a dairy intolerant DC, and it was absolutely fabulous.

ivykaty44 · 07/01/2022 15:19

Imissmoominmama · 07/01/2022 15:20

Haggis, neeps and tatties with a peppercorn sauce, on NYE.

Hotcuppatea · 07/01/2022 15:21

I had a bowl of Heinz tomato soup with melted cheese in it yesterday. Bloody gorgeous.

MrsPnut · 07/01/2022 15:22

Sainsbury's smooth brussels pate with caramelised shallots and calvados.

I am addicted to it and have smashed through countless packets since December. I can't have it in the house because I wake up in the night thinking about toast, butter and pate.

Zebra100 · 07/01/2022 15:58

Passionfruit curd on thick white toast.

CrazySnakeWoman · 07/01/2022 16:00

A slice of baked cheesecake from the ‘Creams’ chain of dessert shops.

Was so good I’ve put out an SOS for a good baked cheesecake recipe on the ‘Recipes’ board. I need MORE (but not at £6 a slice!).

GiltEdges · 07/01/2022 16:06

Ooh difficult, but probably...

Savoury: cauliflower mac and cheese (think it was a BBC Food recipe, we all loved it)
Sweet: Raffaellos 🤤

Bingo78 · 07/01/2022 16:10

Aldi Lemon Iced Doughnuts. Not a massive doughnut fan normally but these are next level amazing. Go buy some!

deathofastrawberry · 07/01/2022 16:10

Had steak last night with a lovely rich mushroom sauce served with mash, it was heaven
