What's the nicest thing you've eaten lately?

I haven't been able to taste or smell anything for the best part of a month due to Covid and my taste has returned. I know that's no time at all in comparison to some poor people but it was a pain and especially disappointing at Christmas.

I've just had some Whitaker's Ginger creams and OMG, they're amazing. Cheap too. Perhaps it's because I've just got my taste back or because I love anything with ginger but they're so good. No this isn't an advert for them.

What other delights should I try now that my tastebuds are working again?

@CurryLover55 apologies as I've only just spotted this. Fresh thyme is great when I have it in the garden but I use dried out of season and it's just as good.

Co-op carrot hot cross buns.

@Giggorata

A really creamy and cheesy macaroni cheese, using up going out of date milk, Brie, cheddar and grilled bacon cut into tiny bits. Instead of doing a cheese sauce, I boiled the macaron in milk and added the other stuff once it was ready. I won't be doing it in the oven in future.
That sounds amazing @Giggorata so no flour, butter etc? Just bung in the cheese?

A Charlie Bingham’s fish pie. Very nice indeed!

This has reminded me that back in lockdown I was part of an awards ceremony which couldn't be held in person, so they live streamed it and had food platters and cocktails delivered. The food platters were posh smoked/cured meats and cheese, and far too much for us to eat.

I made a macaroni cheese as put all the leftover cheese and the meats shopped up in it. Macaroni cheese this one of my favourite meals but this was astoundingly lovely, the best version I've ever eaten.

Obviously because it was made with whatever leftovers I had I don't know exactly what went in and I can't replicate it, which makes me sad every time I have an inferior version.

There's a place near me that delivers cakes to your house. You order them like you would from any other takeaway place and 20 mins later they're here. They're delicious and huge! It's become a monthly treat!

Crusty white baguette spread with goats cheese and truffle honey drizzled on (or some truffle oil and normal honey if you can't get truffle honey).

Snyders jalapeno pretzel bites

Random but the fake jammy dodger biscuits they sell at Ikea in the pink packet. Thought they'd be crap but DD1 wanted to try them, my God they're so good I now need to go back to buy 10 more packets.

Just learned to make my own pasta. Fresh tagliatelle with garlic and chilli, drizzled with olive oil. So simple but it hit the spot.

This is the recipe I am using, @bendmeoverbackwards, and it thickens itself without flour. I do like a fair bit of butter in it, which goes in with the milk and garlic powder and so on, before the macaroni is added.
I do add mustard as well, which is omitted from this recipe, maybe it's a British thing? Also Worcestershire sauce.
I am actually making it again tonight, using cubed roast gammon and adding in some home made chutney.🙂

At the moment I’m obsessed with marmalade sandwiches on tiger bread with lurpak. I’ve always liked marmalade but the bread and butter rather than toast has been a revelation! I know why Paddington liked them so much now!

Eightisgreat · 28/01/2022 17:02

Love a maramalade sandwich.

Eightisgreat · 28/01/2022 17:07

Love creamed mushrooms. But why not just say toast instead of toasted bread?
This was the remains of a baguette cut into two toasted and served on the side without butter, so simply bread toasted.

A homemade (not by me) vroasted vine tomato and lentil soup.
