On the footy show in Australia many years ago, they invested in a greyhound and called him Nads. Each week, they'd broadcast the race Nads was in, all cheering "Go Nads, go!!" Still tickles my funny bone Grin

My nephew has a Weimaraner named Chewit, often shortened to Chewy and a Boxer named Bozo.

Our retired greyhound was retired because he won his first couple of races and then stopped winning. He’s going blind with an eye condition so he’s been named Basil the Faulty Greyhound. My sister has a matching one but refused to call him Manuel.

I know the most gorgeous dog called Julie.

loosestrife · 09/01/2022 00:42

Our dog is a stocky little black-brindle Staffy with white front legs ("opera gloves"). I'm not sure why, but people tend to laugh when they learn that her name is Betty.

Leonbergers are big, but I met a particularly large one at a bark in the park event. His name was Chewy, short for Chewbacca. He was a handsome boy.

English bull terrier - Bunty. Met at the vet's on Thursday.

Moggiesanddoggies · 09/01/2022 09:45

Name changed for this... We've had Fluffy the bearded dragon, Budgie and Bingo the parrots (muchas confusion at the vet with Budgie), Muffin Maclay like a bundle of hay (fluffy cat) Slinky Malinky (sleek black cat) both from Hairy Maclary books. And Iris the dog.

Dogs respond better to names with sharp emphasised sounds, such as SS or KK or 'TT'. Our childhood labrador was called 'Whisky'. (Our dad was a drinker. We also had hamsters called Sherry and Guinness.)
Softer consonents are not so good, ie; 'Growler', 'Henry' or 'Warren'. So if called at a distance, dogs may not hear easily due to their audial range.

7KidsnoTV · 17/01/2022 08:22

I Have friends who called their dogs Fuggly and Askit . Fuggly because they reckoned he was, and Askit, so they could say his name when ever they were asked "what's your dogs name?" Lol

An ex of mine had a glorious, enthusiastic sheepdog-mix mongrel called Boogie. So - Get down, Boogie.
I loved him for that alone!
