Benjispruce5 · 08/01/2022 09:46

@Greenandcabbagelooking. Those type of names are a bit poor taste.

LadyEloise1 · 08/01/2022 09:47

Buddy - because your dog is your buddy.
My neighbour has a Cara which means friend in Irish. I think that's cute.

Funny/cute/witty/daft… let’s hear ‘em.
We have: Lady Margerat von Squirrel, Sydney Longstocking, Minnee the minx, Lolli(pop), Betti Moretti, and newly recruited Dame Doris the Turd. I'd have liked to call a boy dog Dave, I know someone with a whippet called Dave and it couldn't suit him more.

Oh I’ve remembered some more.
Olive - another rescue cat.
Penny Thomas - a cavalier (apparently named after a girl my mum went to school with who was a bit, erm, smelly..🤣
My dgps had Crackers the cavalier & Andy the Pekingese.
A flatmate once had a Persian called Octavia (Tayvee for short).
One vets I worked at had a client Mr Cox who’s cat was called KY, that was a fun one to call out in the waiting room!😜
And another vet one - Mr Powers and his rabbit called Magic…!🤣

Im another fan of human names for pets. Have had Ethelbert the cat, (H)erbert a massive ginger tom and Lucy the doberman. Im throwing in my childhood hamsters too Angus and Cassidy.
My fave dog names though are my uncles two scruffy otterhounds Cornelius and Theodore.

mamabear715 · 08/01/2022 11:26

I don't like human names. I've heard my own used too often on bits of fluff. Yorkshire terriers & the like. Although most of my past dogs had human names as they were rescue dogs & already named.
The dog I did name was Bear. I dunno, he was just like a cute Grizzly!

Somethingselfdeprecating · 08/01/2022 11:42

This reminds me of one of my favourite Far Side cartoons…

We had two rescue cats one named Baker. The other was called Kris Kringle but we changed it to Sherlock.

We now have one called Pepsi.

Thehop · 08/01/2022 13:01

My old neighbours had a Weston called Nanna

It was funny when she was a puppy. “Nanna off the sofa. Nanna in the garden for a wee” “Nanna. Naughty. We don’t poo on the floor”

Thehop · 08/01/2022 13:03

Years ago, was staying at a lovely little cove in Cornwall.

I got talking to a couple sitting on a bench outside the little local shop and they had a gorgeous black Labrador - his name was Wilsee. Because, every time their kids had asked them for a dog, their answer had always been “we’ll see”.

That reminds me of friends whose son begged for a hamster. They said only if he looked after it. They got it and he called it Hammy. They re-christened it Yurbut because every time they asked: "When are you going to feed Hammy? When are you going to clean his cage?" he answered: "Yeah, but I've just got to finish watching this programme/playing on my x-box..."

Yurbut was well looked after by them. They suspected that was going to happen and when Yurbut was buried in the back garden they invoked his memory every time their son asked for a dog and promised to take him for walks Grin.
