I've just discovered Sherry...

...after having to buy a bottle for a recipe I'm making.

I've only ever seen it being drank by Emily Bishop on Coronation Street years ago. I poured myself a small glass to try, and it's bloody lovely.

Does anyone else like a Sherry? This is a basic Tesco one, I'm guessing the more expensive ones are even nicer?

I hate it, but my husband always has a glass of PX when he’s cooking. He’d secretly prefer Harvey’s Bristol Cream but that’s just a bit too old lady.

FelicityBeedle · 30/12/2021 17:54

I love a sherry

TooWicked · 30/12/2021 17:55

Is Harvey's Bristol Cream creamy like Baileys then?

DillDanding · 30/12/2021 17:57

Not creamy but I think it’s very sweet.

HerBigChance · 30/12/2021 17:58

It's lovely, can creep up on you though!

Absolutely! Better when you go to Portugal and drink the real stuff but I often have a glass of sherry here. Also reminds me of my late grandmother, she used to drink sherry as though it were water, despite otherwise being very proper.

fleur27 · 30/12/2021 18:00

I secretly love Harvey's Bristol cream. Makes the best truffles with my granny's old recipe and then have an excuse to drink rest of bottle. Morrison's own brand is close to as good. Asda's tastes like I imagine pure methylated spirits does.

Look for a Pedro Ximinex, Co-op have a decent one on offer at the moment and the Sainsburys Taste the Difference one is excellent, like Christmas cake in a glass!

TooWicked · 30/12/2021 18:02

Is it meant to go in the fridge? I'm drinking it at room temperature right now.

I discovered both sherry and port earlier this year. I have nice fancy crystal glasses especially for my old lady tipple.

Summerofcontent · 30/12/2021 18:04

The English whisky company make sherry in the old whisky barrels.

It's so good

JemimaMuddledUp · 30/12/2021 18:04

Love sherry, especially Pedro Ximinez

savagebaggagemaster · 30/12/2021 18:04

It's very Frasier and Niles Crane Grin

DonttouchthatLarry · 30/12/2021 18:04

I like sherry but people do associate it with old ladies Grin

FatFilledTrottyPuss · 30/12/2021 18:04

Yum I love a glass of sherry or port with some nuts or cheese and crackers, it’s so Christmassy Xmas Smile

SirVixofVixHall · 30/12/2021 18:05

Mmmm. Sherry. Delicious.

It's personal preference. I've always preferred my sherry served at room temperature.

... and I've enjoyed it since I was a teenager (I'm now mid thirties), delicious stuff, doesn't matter if some people think it's old fashioned!

ChikiTIKI · 30/12/2021 18:06

No it doesn't go in the fridge, just in the cupboard or wherever.

I love it too.... I used to have one small glass every Sunday evening when I was at uni. Still have it now at times, am missing it as currently pregnant. I also love Port.

QueenJeanie · 30/12/2021 18:06

Pour in a tumbler with some ice

It's our winter aperitif Smile

Be careful though - it's lethal if you have too much!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 30/12/2021 18:06

I love sherry. I put it in the fridge. There's so many kinds too; you need to do a copita where there's a wee snack with it!

yellowmarshmallows · 30/12/2021 18:06

My Christmas Day doesn't start properly until I've had my 11am sherry! Yum. Don't drink it much the rest of the year, but sometimes only a sherry will do. Cheers.

Ratched · 30/12/2021 18:07

Yes, I discovered Port a few years ago.
Despite everyone and their dog telling me I would get gout, I haven't yet, and it is delicious 😁

LoveGrooveDanceParty · 30/12/2021 18:09

I have a soft spot for sherry.

My Dad had one in the evening in winter (room temperature, obvs) when he got home from work while reading the newspaper. He’d have a G&T in summer.

PatriotCanes · 30/12/2021 18:09

Do you have a special glass for it as well? My grandparents were big sherry drinkers, from a pull down door drinks cabinet with dusty glasses.
