What jobs would put you off a new partner ?

Lighthearted and not meant to offend.

My friend's neighbour has recently asked her out. He's lovely.

But....he works as a funeral director and my friend says she finds this so , so off putting.

This kind of reminded me of an ex boyfriend who dumped me when I went for an interview as aa trainee dental nurse, ( he had a complete phobia of the dentist). I didn't get the job anyway...

But it got me thinking , are there any jobs that would be a hard no from you from prospective partners:

Think I would struggle with Tory MP, Boarder force or bailiff tbh.

Humour me, self isolating and bored, ( and also want to persuade my friend that her neighbors job really isn't that bad...)

Thank you. Me and the kids live 400 miles from his base. He pays for two lots of Food. Petrol. Mortgage and Accommodation.

My husband is on courses for the next 4 weeks which means he will have to buy crap food via pay as you dine which makes our food bill rocket for the month. He will also have to pay for his own fuel to come home on the weekends (except one journey) Every job I've had I've been able to claim back for expenses like fuel and food, I accept DH has to go away for work from time to time but it pisses me right off that it costs us, he doesn't get LSA for these types of jobs and courses.

A lawyer.

I'd be forever opening our front door to people turning up for the free half-hour of legal advice she'd be obligated by law to give them.

I know it's horrendous. Plus his wages are never right. I think it's because he doesn't give them his receipts and recent council tax and utility bill online but he says not. The amount of stuff they gave to pay for in advance. 2 years to go thank god. Mad to think we will be better off.
WheekestLink · 31/12/2021 10:35

No particular job that would put me off but certain areas of work - I wouldn't have a relationship with a sex worker for instance.

I also think I couldn't be with someone who had a traumatic job.

Surely he claims GYH allowance which pays for journey to and from home on a weekly basis. This should not stop because he is on a course.

If however he is being told he is not able to go home he is entitled to LSA, but only if he does not go home for a 9 day stretch.

RevolvingPivot · 31/12/2021 11:05

I thought that only paid a percentage?

Out of interest, why?

Excitedforthefuture · 31/12/2021 11:32

@CannotShakeIt

GYH allowance pays for two return journeys a month

It's a 3 week course, he is only entitled to his journey there and back paid for (but it's 2.5 hours away so he will obviously come home on weekends). He has only ever gotten LSA for a course once, there was a specific reason why he was entitled to it, I can't remember why now but no he (and no one we know- we asked around a lot!) get LSA for a course, they all go to Leconfield regularly (logisitics) but can only claim one journey.

Just realised as it's 3 weeks it's probably going to fuck up his HTD too Angry

A bloke involved in the porn industry or prostitution or surrogacy would be a no. Also a man whose job entails him enabling the trans industry. A surgeon chopping off healthy breasts from young people who don't like being female would be a no.
Policemen and armed forces are fine. Politicians are fine probably not green or lib dem as they are pushing the trans industry agenda too. Not SNP as I'm pro union so mainly Tory and Labour left.

elbea · 31/12/2021 11:46

@userisi2 I know the pension isn’t final salary anymore but I know someone who retired a few years ago on final salary. The poster said their OH was at retirement age so he may still be final salary.

Our MQ are just under £400 and include a new build four bed semi, council tax and water rates. Houses on the same road rent for about £1,350 a month so we are pretty happy! My husband was deployed in the UK for 11 months last year so came home every weekend, petrol costs were high but didn’t add up to the difference in rent.

liveforsummer · 31/12/2021 11:46

What, dare is ask, is a chugger?

userisi2 · 31/12/2021 11:50

@elbea not everyone lives in MQs though, yes it's an option (and a good one I'm not denying although my MQs were far from new build!) but if you don't opt for an MQ you aren't financially remunerated another way so it's not a particularly useful bonus when you decide to leave them. Obviously FAM changes that slightly but even then that's only £125 a month.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 31/12/2021 11:52

I'd never date a Tory MP.

userisi2 · 31/12/2021 11:52

Pensions changes were 2015 so no it won't be a final, part of it will be good, the rest shite. The pension is NOT worth staying in for anymore, my husband will be leaving before his 22 as it just isn't worth the sacrifice as it once was.

RoyalFamilyFan · 31/12/2021 11:59

Yes I don't know why anyone gets a job in the public sector anymore. Pensions used to be one of the attractions.
I used to work for a local authority. Since moving to private sector, and I have worked for a number of companies, the workload is less, pay is better and I am treated better. The pensions arent good, but neither is LA anymore.

userisi2 · 31/12/2021 12:02

@RoyalFamilyFan my civil service pension is excellent, I pay a minimal amount and they pay in the equivalent of 27% (defined benefit, career average). Local authority isn't too bad either at 14% (usually), they're not what they once were but usually much better than private. But I agree you need to weigh up the whole package rather than assume one is better than the other, don't get blinded by the salary or the pension without looking into carefully, which is why DH will be leaving the military as their pension is not worth the sacrifice you make for it, nor is the salary.

BiscuitLover3678 · 31/12/2021 12:05

Someone in the Army, for lots of reasons. I don’t think I’d cope very well.

RoyalFamilyFan · 31/12/2021 12:06

@userisi2 It really wasnt worth the insane workload just for a future pension. My quality of life is so much better now.

BiscuitLover3678 · 31/12/2021 12:06

A butcher. I’m vegetarian! The thought and the smell.

Most people do it as think they are doing something useful and want to contribute to society. Money isn’t the reason for sure!
RoyalFamilyFan · 31/12/2021 12:11

@BiscuitLover3678 Yes you are right. And it may be fine in some LAs or Departments, but my job became crazy as more and more cuts were made.

userisi2 · 31/12/2021 12:15

@RoyalFamilyFan as I say isn't worth it for my DH either, but for me I have a high paying job, interesting role, manageable workload; the pension and flexibility keep my loyal despite knowing I'd get more elsewhere (that and public service of course! Wink) I think it would be insane to slave away for decades in a job that didn't satisfy you for whatever reason just for a pension.
