DD wears lingerie as a shirt

She's 18 and wanted a lingerie inspired camisole and thought she found one at a thrift store. We told her it was actual lingerie and not a shirt, but she wouldn't listen to us. But she posted a video on social media that was taken down as adult content because of her "shirt." The internet has spoken. That's not a shirt.

Oh to be 18 and to be able to do this shit. Make sure she had a copy of the picture so that when she's older she can look back and go, god I was awesome.

CallieTorres · 28/12/2021 09:54

Surely it's about what she wears it with?

What is the difference between a top one and an underwear one?

bizboz · 28/12/2021 09:55

I'm pretty sure I used to do this at around the same age. There was very little difference between some strappy "going out" tops and camisoles that were for underwear. Luckily no social media at the time!

She was so proud to find it. She said it was so retro.

Ahh to be 18 again.

Never, ever base anything on "The Internet has spoken"!
CallieTorres · 28/12/2021 10:06

Can you post a pic of it (not her wearing it)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/12/2021 10:06

I used to wear a vintage lace bralet thing as a top, back in the 80s, but with a slouchy man's shirt open over the top. Leave her to it. Pick your battles.

trevthecat · 28/12/2021 10:07

Oh I would have loved this body confidence at that age

Dollywilde · 28/12/2021 10:09

Ah back in - 2008 maybe? - when I was 19 I wore a silky camisole thing out all the time. It was meant to be some kind of satiny night slip, I used to wear it with a chunky knit cardigan and loads of necklaces. I looked pretty bloody awesome if I do say so myself Grin

If I were to do that now in my 30s with 2 kids people would rightly assume I’d just lost my marbles and was going out in my nightie…

HelloDulling · 28/12/2021 10:09

It’s a item of clothing that covers her breasts, so she is dressed in it. Whether it was originally sold as lingerie, sleepwear or a top is just semantics.

Thickasmincepie · 28/12/2021 10:11

Doesn't the Internet remember the days of going out in a see-through dress with teeny shorts and a bra underneath?

Or wearing tiny slips with fishnet tights? I used to have a black underslip that I nicked off my mum. I used to wear it for work (barmaid) with combat boots.

Scarydinosaurs · 28/12/2021 10:11

How obvious was it that it was lingerie? Rachel in Friends obvious?

MichelleScarn · 28/12/2021 10:13

Ooo and the 'posh spice' inspired bra with a blazer half buttoned as a look. Aahh 90s fashion!

BurntO · 28/12/2021 10:14

Cool

Nutsohazelnuts · 28/12/2021 10:14

OK, I don’t get the difference? If it’s a skimpy top, it’s a skimpy top?

Bluntness100 · 28/12/2021 10:14

What kind of social media did she post on, very unusual for a video to be taken down as someone is in lingerie.

feelsobadfeltsogood · 28/12/2021 10:15

God to be 18 and excited about something like that and have the body confidence

I wish

I agree with people pick your battles she is only young once and as she gets older, puts on weight and is run ragged by the day to day mundane stuff she'll remember this and giggle to herself - let her have her moment

ElectraBlue · 28/12/2021 10:25

She is an adult now and wear whatever she wants.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 28/12/2021 10:26

I thought this sort of thing was compulsory when you are 18?

I certainly have done it.

This. I lived in old slips and strappy nightdresses with biker boots or docs, sometimes accessorised by plaid lumberjack shirts. And a scowl.

A posh university friend had a glamorous vintage silk nightie she used to lend around her friends for going out occasions.

WeatherwaxLives · 28/12/2021 10:33

Ooh. When I was 16 ish around 2000 I had a completely sheer red t shirt. I'd wear it with a black lacy bra and a white denim jacket if it was subzero cold.

If she's happy in it, she should wear it.

Queenoftheashes · 28/12/2021 10:34

I went out in my basque once because I forgot my top. And a cardigan. It looked ok tbh I certainly wasn’t the skimpiest outfit in Bournemouth.

ImInStealthMode · 28/12/2021 10:37

Could you see her nipples through it? If not, it's fine as a top for an 18 year old who has the body confidence to carry it of. If so, I'd recommend she wears nipple covers next time.

Intrigued as to what social media took off a picture of someone in lingerie, when my feeds are often full of people in lingerie / swimwear (ads).

MichelleScarn · 28/12/2021 10:38

And for other 90s teens who remembers the chainmail or butterfly tops like this? Am sure l wore something similar to the y2k party I went to!
