DD wears lingerie as a shirt

She's 18 and wanted a lingerie inspired camisole and thought she found one at a thrift store. We told her it was actual lingerie and not a shirt, but she wouldn't listen to us. But she posted a video on social media that was taken down as adult content because of her "shirt." The internet has spoken. That's not a shirt.

Ha, I used to go out all the time in vintage nighties, slips and camisoles. I loved the fabrics, colours, and trims! She's fine. Whatever SM site it is doesn't get the last word on what is acceptable

When I was 18 we used to make a “top” out of a pair of fishnet tights (preferably neon) with the crotch and feet cut off. You put your head through the crotch, the legs became the arms and the waist came just under your boobs. This was teamed up with a wonder bra and those combat trousers the sat just abound your pubic line and had bits hanging off them, oh and a naturally flat stomach. Of course you needed a diamanté thong poking out the top. I wish I had a picture, I bet I looked awesome!

I used to go out in a short satin nightie around that age! Twinned with massive boots with metal bits and goth make up. No regrets!

Assuming her nips weren't hanging out I can't see the issue really.

Same as that awwww those where the days. Had a few tops that were see through as well back in the late 90s but the nips stayed covered

I assumed the OP is in the USA - not just "thrift store" but also the use of "shirt" for top. I was wondering if it's a bit more of a conservative society as well in terms of women's clothing.

There are loads of pics on insta, TikTok of girls in very skimpy tops. The only way your daughter's post would be removed would be if showed any hint of nipple. Plus I'm confused how you equate wearing a skimpy top to wearing a shirt. Completely different items of clothing.

I'm pretty sure I used to do this at around the same age. There was very little difference between some strappy "going out" tops and camisoles that were for underwear. Luckily no social media at the time!

Same. I used to work behind a bar wearing something that was definitely lingerie! I was 18. Oh, to be so slim again...

Yeah my dd is 18 and her and all her friends are wearing satin camisoles as going out wear. It’s just a “thing” at the moment.

I had a red velvet blazer, with one button that I used to wear with just a leopard print bra underneath.

I used to wear 1950s and 1940s slips as dresses back in the 1990s. The older ones were particularly lovely with all the hand stitching. There is nothing new - it's all been done before.

I miss being young and wish I had appreciated how great it was back then!

Or wearing tiny slips with fishnet tights? I used to have a black underslip that I nicked off my mum. I used to wear it for work (barmaid) with combat boots.

God yes, I used to do that. See through dress with sparkly shorts.

I also used to wear colourful silk slip nighties (lingerie!) with brightly coloured tights and big chunky boots.

Bloody hell, what about when wonderbras and sheer tops were all the rage! That literally was going out in underwear, and we rocked it! She's 18, embrace her confidence and tell her how amazing she looks.

When I was younger there was a trend of wearing dresses that looked like undergarments. I’ll never forget heading out with my friends and my dm asking was I not going to put something on over my ‘slip’.

I miss the days when I was young and slim enough to really embrace fashion and wear anything. Let your dd enjoy it.

Thank goodness someone else has said this! I was reading the comments about it being done in the early 2000s and thinking 'pffft I was dressing like this in the 90s'

I remember my 1990s days of wearing lace/see through tops over a wonderbra, and wearing nighties and slips as dresses. And also, during the same period, of basically dressing like an Edwardian governess.
