DD wears lingerie as a shirt

She's 18 and wanted a lingerie inspired camisole and thought she found one at a thrift store. We told her it was actual lingerie and not a shirt, but she wouldn't listen to us. But she posted a video on social media that was taken down as adult content because of her "shirt." The internet has spoken. That's not a shirt.

My DD bought a long “dress” which is by any definition a slinky satin nightie with nice lace effect detail around the boobs. She wore it to school for a “civvies” day. It’s a former convent school but things have seriously changed since back in the day they would have marched her and her jammies back home. The nuns too would have spoken out against the daytime underwear wearing. I just leave her to it.

Is this the same internet who said that Bill Gates had put microchips in covid vaccine?

amymel2016 · 28/12/2021 10:42

I bet she looked fab! Good for her

BlowDryRat · 28/12/2021 10:42

Surely the majority of non-religious teenage girls have done this? I certainly did but have settled into sedate frumpiness these days.

ImInStealthMode · 28/12/2021 10:42

@MichelleScarn Oooh I had that exact top but in a silver colour. Can't have been older than 18 or 19, early 2000s.

This only happens of someone reports it. Did you?

It’s ridiculous that clothes have a category. My daughter sometimes wears pyjama tops as t-shirts. Who cares what it said on the bag it came in?

ItsAlwaysThere · 28/12/2021 10:45

I used to do that too. My mum was horrified. I loved how it looked.

MerryChristmas21 · 28/12/2021 10:46

Good memories!!

I'm glad I had the body & the confidence to wear skimpy things at that age!!

I certainly don't have the body now, and fortunately have the sense to no longer dress like that. But if I was 18, with the body, again I'd enjoy it even more!!

Wenjie · 28/12/2021 10:47

I didn't report it! Lol, someone else must have.

Did you see what she actually posted? This sounds a bit suspicious to me. I spent my teenage years wearing tiny short slip dresses that were definitely from the nightwear department!
BarefootHippieChick · 28/12/2021 10:52

Takes me back to my grunge/Courtney Love days of wearing lingerie as dresses

dubyalass · 28/12/2021 10:52

@JuneOsborne

Oh to be 18 and to be able to do this shit. Make sure she had a copy of the picture so that when she's older she can look back and go, god I was awesome.
100% this! I recently found a photo of myself in my early 20s and I was gorgeous, I had no idea, thought I was ugly. Such a waste! Am reminding myself that 60-year-old me will probably feel the same way about photos taken now in my 40s, so I should have more confidence.
PurpleDaisies · 28/12/2021 10:54

@MichelleScarn

And for other 90s teens who remembers the chainmail or butterfly tops like this? Am sure l wore something similar to the y2k party I went to!
I had one of those! Goodness knows how it would stay up now.

Reminds me of Kylie in the Spinning Around video!

maddiemookins16mum · 28/12/2021 10:59

She might look back and cringe in 20 years or she might not. No harm done. I wore some nonsense clothing when I was 18 (but it was 1982!).

BleuJay · 28/12/2021 10:59

I wear vintage camisole tops , they look lovely when worn with a cardigan, I am a mature woman.

MissMaple82 · 28/12/2021 11:01

I thought mumsnet was a UK thing? Is it not?

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 28/12/2021 11:02

Someone should let 90s Madonna know.

It’s mainly uk posters but there’s nothing stopping people from outside the uk using the site.

Yes!! I had a silvery pink one of those. Good times.

Someone should let current Madonna know, she's still wearing leotards and fishnets 😆

Yes!! and butterfly tops! Jesus i was skinny back then!
Stompythedinosaur · 28/12/2021 11:05

I used to go out in a short satin nightie around that age! Twinned with massive boots with metal bits and goth make up. No regrets!

Assuming her nips weren't hanging out I can't see the issue really.

Branleuse · 28/12/2021 11:06

Considering the soft porn thats allowed on ig, then its odd it was taken down. Its not against IG rules to be photographed in nightwear
