When do you take the lot down?

Just that really!

We had a lovely Christmas at my parents this year. Come home, got a big pile of DDs old toys and clothes to take to the woman's refugee shelter, new clothes washed and hung up, new toys in her toy basket.

Tree down, lights down, all the decks are down. I don't know about anyone else but as soon as Boxing Day is done I get an overwhelming urge to take down the decs. My mum keeps them up until New Year's Day but it stresses me out!

Just a little light hearted one really, when do you take your decs down?

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

Twelfth Night, or thereabouts. I like to get my money’s worth from my tree!

ABCeasyasdohrayme · 27/12/2021 16:10

I'm with you, mine are already down. Just waiting for ds to come over and put them in the attic for me.

Thethreecs · 27/12/2021 16:13

12th night they come down. Tbh even if I wasn't Catholic I would keep them up. They're only up a week. I actually enjoy the lights and decorations, makes me happy. One of my sister's is like you, we visit on Stephen's day /boxing day and her house is clear of any evidence of Christmas, it feels weird handing over Christmas gifts and saying happy Christmas with not one decoration, tbh I don't know why she even bothers.

We took our tree down today. Lights are still up in the windows.

Hmmm I agree with you actually, all for a week I wouldn't bother either!

I normally put the decs up on the first weekend in December so we do get a few weeks out of it. I just love the feeling of a fresh start but totally understand keeping the decs up for the 12 days or until later. Especially if you have a beautiful real tree. They smell lovely!

DD is 14 months nearly and everything is in her mouth and I was worried if we got a real one she would eat the tree bits that fall off.

I would love next year to get a real tree, and then plant it in the garden but I'm a total novice when it comes to planting and don't know possible it would be!

But yes only being up a week I wouldn't see the point. It takes me a good 2/3 days to do the decs anyway!

My tree is down. I’ve left fairy lights and lamps up so it still feels cozy.
I just wanted the space back as it was a wide tree !

AppleKatie · 27/12/2021 16:19

Twelfth night or more likely a day or two before so it’s done before term starts. No joy in ripping it down on the 27th. I want to feel relaxed and Christmassy as long as possible.

Fabuleuse · 27/12/2021 16:20

We take ours down on 6th January or as close as is practical with school and work holiday dates. Christmas lasts for 12 days from the 25th December in my view. We only put up our tree and decorations on the 19th.

Indoorcamping · 27/12/2021 16:21

Normally at some point in the first half of January when we can be arsed. This year i think I'm gonna take it all down and pack it away on new years eve.

I've hated Christmas this year. Nothing but stress & hassle, plus DP and I aren't getting on. I want it all over with for the new year.

Tulips21 · 27/12/2021 16:23

2nd Jan I've started taking ours down

Matilda2013 · 27/12/2021 16:26

Ours is down. Always 27th because Christmas is done and we want a clean house to start the New Year.

Hollyhead · 27/12/2021 16:27

Twelfth night, and I’d keep the tree up for longer just with lights if DH would allow it.

Angel2702 · 27/12/2021 16:28

Spent all day doing it. Need space back to sort the kids presents and have a proper clean up. Can’t relax with the piles of stuff everywhere otherwise. Clean and fresh for Nee Year is how I like it.

DrDreReturns · 27/12/2021 16:29

New year's Eve here. I want them down before the new year.

GoodnightGrandma · 27/12/2021 16:30

I bought myself some hyacinths today, I’m ready for spring !

Scutterbug · 27/12/2021 16:31

New Year’s Day here

RichardMarxisinnocent · 27/12/2021 16:33

Usually 12th night, but am considering leaving them up until Candlemas this year, as I have gifts under it which can't be given to the recipients for another couple of weeks due to someone having covid. The Christmas tree at my church stays up until then, so thought I might do the same.

This is at least the 3rd thread I've seen on this subject!!

Rexthesnail · 27/12/2021 16:35

I will be taking mine down this evening, I've had enough of it all now!

MajorCarolDanvers · 27/12/2021 16:36

Not before Hogmanay

Megan2018 · 27/12/2021 16:38

Twelfth night. Always.
It’s very much still Christmas here until then.

user1497787065 · 27/12/2021 16:42

Mine will be down tomorrow. Cards already in the recycling.

Alicetheowl · 27/12/2021 16:50

Normally New Years Day, but not times like this year as we will treat the holidays as lasting until Monday 3rd, so they will come down then.

Itstheprinciple · 27/12/2021 16:51

This is so miserable! I'm still very much enjoying my tree and relaxing in the lights during the evening.

I can be doing with the competitive race to get the decs up early and then to get them down ASAP.

TheLeadbetterLife · 27/12/2021 16:54

It’s Christmas until the 6th January in our house, and we’re having a marvellous time eating cheese and watching musicals. I haven’t even baked all the mince pies yet, the holiday has barely begun.
